- For five years, between 1975 to 1980, the Yorkshire Ripper murders cast a dark shadow over the lives of women in the North of England. 13 women were dead and the police seemed incapable of catching the killer. No one felt safe - and every man was a suspect.

Serial murderer: *dies*
Netflix: YESSIR
the whole assumption that these women were prostitutes was flawed from the very beginning, In the beginning, this is a truly fatal flaw and the whole police force totally dropped the ball from day one!
Complete and Utter incompetence by all of these bloody coppers, Such rubbish cost the lives of many more innocent women! Many of the woman who had young children who had to go forth in the world without their dear Mum. Makes me sick. This would never have happened in America!!
Hogwash to the Britts and their twisted assumptions that "COST THE LIVES OF THESE POOR SOULS TO DIE SUCH HORRIBLE DEATHS THAT THEY HARDLY DESERVED."
AND THEY HAVE TO LIVE WITH THAT FOR THE REMAINDER OF THEIR LIVES!!
Don't be silly, this was filmed a long time before he died. What this documentary was about Netflix new woke agenda, blame the police, throw in a few feminists, and yep they got lucky he died just before they aired it
@@BrianCarnevaleB26 it’s definitely possible this could’ve happened in america. ted bundy managed to evade the police multiple times while he was in custody, prolonging his killings.

Shamone! Hee heee!
Except they interviewed him a dozen times
Saw an interview a few years ago with the murderer's brother, his family really had no clue because he would behave like a normal person when he was at home.
Def not a noob. I don’t think I’ll ever be desensitized by those words. It’s haunting. I am fascinated and interested in learning on how a serial killer’s mind ticks. The next true crime doc I want to watch is ‘Crazy, not insane.’
He got away with it for 5 years because he was able to detach himself from his crimes and carry on like everything was normal, true mark of a psychopath

I was only a young teenager when these murders were happening. I lived and grew up in Manchester where two of the victims were found. Jean Jordon was found on Alexandra Park in Moss side and Vera Millward was found on the grounds of the Manchester Royal Infirmary. I remember my mum used to work close to were the murders happend and I remember being terrified she would end up one of his victims. I was so relieved when this monster was caught.
This series was really well done. It highlighted the misogyny and prejudices that the police and media had from the get go, as well as the perspectives of women living through the terror. They didn't even talk about the killer until the last episode. The focus was really on the women and how women were (and still are) perceived by men. Really good series.
The series was a pile of nonsense,If Julie Bindel and the feminist brigade were so concerned about women’s rights then why didn’t they protest after a prostitutes death or attack? Now Julie Bindel states on the recent ITV documentary that Sutcliffe followed her. Why not mention this on other documentaries she’s been on?
This was before the 90s I suspect a lot has changed since then
@@alexanderphilip1809 A lot has, much has not. I hear men (and some women) talk about prostitutes as though they are scum, immoral and expendable- as opposed to human beings, often in very difficult circumstances- to this day.
i fund it funny that police were recommending woman don't go out alone or maybe just walk with a man, and the fat pig feminists first thought was "reeeeee!! dont tell me what to do!! reeee! i don't need a man! " as if a man would want anything to do with her in the first place lmao it went from somewhat entertaining to just another bait and switch for fat lonely woman to complain lol
How are they perceived?
The man literally just dropped dead a few days ago and Netflix was already waiting with a docu series on standby they ain’t slick 😭

I live only a few minutes walk from the park where he killed one of his victims. There’s a large housing estate there now and lots of street lamps but before it would’ve been just an empty, dark, open park. It gives me chills to imagine being out there by myself in the pitch black. This was a terrifying time in women’s lives and I’m glad to hear Sutcliffe’s passed away at long last!

When I saw the title "THE RIPPER" this was the only name that struck my mind:
Jack The Ripper.
The shame is that they haven't found the real identity of that Whitechapel Devil till now...
we still don't know who Jack the Ripper is, this is about Peter Sutcliffe who was called the Yorkshire Ripper

I watched this without any knowledge of the contents, thought it was about 1800s jack the ripper. Completely shocked by the tremendous flop of police job there. @@abdel3adhimdjezari406 what are u waffling about
Nope, he got caught in the act. 45 years ago, the police didn't have the information systems or forensic analysis as they do today. That's why serial killers in so many other countries were at large for so long back then. It was luck that got him and sometimes that's what's needed.

I always wonder how many people actually got away with murder? And some famous serial killers have actually gotten away like the Zodiac Killer and Jack the Ripper. And also the perpetrators behind missing children. It just seems like most of the time there is no justice in the world.
The Zodiac killer is strange because if you read the local police reports (instead of the city boys who had chequered histories to say the least) they believe the perpetrators were either caught or died before they could be prosecuted. Which is one explanation why the murders ceased, I guess.
I watched this after night stalker and the detectives at this case are ridiculously bad. They stick up with the wrong clues and missed a lot of opportunity to catch this murderer

I’m glad other people thought of Stefan as soon as they saw the ripper haha. The question is, was Stefan being the ripper written in because of this serial killer just in vampire form? 🤔
There are lots of Rippers...
I heard of this killer. When I watched it, the thing that made my jaw literally hit the ground was the interviews with the couple of Feminists, who saw the Police response of suggested curfews and advice of don’t go out alone, and twisted it into ‘structural sexism’ and a way for men to oppress women.
Then, one of them insisted on being a ‘strong independent woman’ and wasn’t going to let men ‘tell her what to do......and was attacked by him.
Literally defies sanity!
Don't go out till the killer has been caught, please

Anyway, the police were complete idiots too, what a shit show, so many lives could have been saved if someone competent was in charge
The reason why women were against the curfews was because they limited their freedom. Like I'm the potential victim and the police instead of punishing the potential murderer by placing curfews for men you punish me by placing curfews for women? It makes sense that they were annoyed. By keeping men at home and letting women go out you'd still keep them safe since all the men including the killer wouldn't be our and about at night.. Instead what was suggested was to further police women. What i got from the documentary was that women weren't against curfews they were however against women only curfews. Finally women at the beginning were not as afraid or careful because the police and media painted this as a prostitutes only case even though some of the first victims who were labelled as prostitutes weren't actually prostitutes
Yes Georgia, but anyone capable of killing and mutilating another human being isn’t going to give a flying fork about a men-only curfew.
@@reasonableguy9090 agreed even though they could probably have more police on the streets making sure that the curfew was followed. I'm just saying that the way the police went about it and said it was women only made things worse and i understand why women were against it.
@@reasonableguy9090 even if we ignore the whole curfew thing there was still some misogyny in how the media/police/public handled the murders. For example i remember that one of the victims was labelled as a prostitute by the police because she liked going out and had an active sex life. The idea that a woman who does that is automatically a prostitute is misogynistic and it set the case back since by labelling everyone as just another prostitute you end up with police that didn't care about the case the conservative public didn't give a damn so no one was actively trying to solve the murders
I think they are filming this near me because there were an old police car and apparently its for a series called the ripper
