The innocence of Frank was a thing of subtle beauty. Beer? no way, get me a Shandy, and never a swear word in sight..You genuinely could take your 90 year old Granny or your 2 year old kid along to a Frank show, and he'd have them in stiches. A true legend. RIP Chris. Frank will live on.

He bloody did too!, the cheek of the bequiffed old troubadour! Well, the great thing is, that A: nobody was killed in the nicking of the song, B: the car wasn't damaged and C; it didn't go onto the footpath. Sleep well tonight, denizens of Timperley, unless you've written a top tune on manuscript paper, which might be stolen by a bequiffed old troubadour from not off Timperley. Residents beware.

Yes I have , I had a tweet conversation with Jon Ronson about it, the idea is 'Frank' is inspired by Frank Sidebottom with a spin to broaden the appeal (set in US etc) then hopefully a specific Frank Sidebottom film can be launched to hook up with the (hopeful) success of 'Frank'

I have to think that this gentleman was far ahead of his time. The act seems tailor-made for this era. A mix of clowning, commentary, and just plain fun, the Sidebottom character would have been an instant meme and, I'm sure he would have been massive on Adult Swim or any number of other alt comedy outlets. Fortunately, youtube exists to forward his peculiar genius posthumously.

well... makes both time that to last from the day sad.
Frank or Chris will always live in the hearts of the people of England and also of other countries (I am 17 years old, I live in Mexico and I love Frank Sidebottom) sometimes makes me very sad to know that is not the world, but I've learned from Frank, it gives me a feeling without explanation.
the world needs to someone like him, with a spirit cheerful and eccentric.
Unfortunately those memories about it, can be difficult of have it in mind or not?
I promised myself to myself, that all these years and the future, it would take me the example of that creativity that Frank had, is an inspiration!
    - Rest in peace, Chris Sievey

Just watched the American movie called "Frank" which has Frank's head - on an American - and bugger all else. Bit of a dissappointment, really. I could see what the film was driving at and it would have worked. With some other head! But Frank's? Really? Had to come back to the original and remind myself of the glorious absurd surreal Timperley reality. Thank you.

The movie Frank was written by a guy who toured with Sidebottom. He was originally going for a bio pic but as the movie development progressed they found it made more sense to go more and more fictional. In the end, it does seem odd that they went with a larger version of the same head however I found the movie brilliant. It's not about Frank Sidebottom it's about people, differences, talent and the lack thereof. It's a great movie.

      @mychannel594 Před 9 lety +1

No, I don't know what it means - that's part of why it's not funny. Maybe it was funny in its original context, but stealing the punch line and sticking into an unrelated video is not funny, it's just unoriginal. What you were laughing at was not this instance of "time gentlemen, please", it was the original instance, or at the least, a combination of the two. As a standalone bit, it's not funny. If I was a betting man, I'd bet it's not funny even if I did know joke already.

      He says:
      "And guess who I blame:
Anne the DJ, Anne the DJ..."
A reference to popular Radio 1 DJ of the time Anne Nightingale.
This replaces "Hang the DJ" in the original song by The Smiths. Frank's version is better in my opinion.

Yes its based on frank sidebottom and captain beefheart but it is an original idea because its not a biopic but a fictional story based on them.

The difference is the songs in the movie are legitimate, good songs. Frank Sidebottom is a character intended to make us laugh, the songs aren't meant to be 'good'.

One thing I don't understand is :if he was english why do they "turned" him american in the movie ?Ok,the movie is "based" on his story and has never meant to be a proper biography..nevertheless..I still don't see the point of "change" his nationality...

I'm certain it was more to do with money than much else. Why not make him American if that's what American audiences want to see? The actual biography of Frank Sidebottom that came out around the same time had to rely on donations just to be made. and that's capitalism for you.
