I have to think that this gentleman was far ahead of his time. The act seems tailor-made for this era. A mix of clowning, commentary, and just plain fun, the Sidebottom character would have been an instant meme and, I'm sure he would have been massive on Adult Swim or any number of other alt comedy outlets. I could see what the film was driving at and it would have worked. With some other head! But Frank's? Really? The movie Frank was written by a guy who toured with Sidebottom. He was originally going for a bio pic but as the movie development progressed they found it made more sense to go more and more fictional. In the end, it does seem odd that they went with a larger version of the same head however I found the movie brilliant. It's not about Frank Sidebottom it's about people, differences, talent and the lack thereof. It's a great movie.

there is an interview with the screenwriters where they explained it. the movie is very good. written by frank's keyboard player.
