Lyrics:
You know the distance never made
a difference to me
I swam a lake of fire, I’d have walked
across the floor of any sea,
Ignored the vastness between
all that can be seen
And all that we believe
So I thought you were like an angel to me
Funny how true colours shine in darkness
and in secrecy,
If there were scarlet flags
They washed out in the mind of me
Where a blinding light shone on you every night
And either side of my sleep
Where you were held frozen like an angel to me
It ain’t the being alone
(Sha la la)
It ain’t the empty home, baby
(Sha la la)
You know I’m good on my own
(Sha la la)
Sha la la, baby
You know, it’s more the being unknown
So much of the living, love
Is the being unknown
You called me angel for the first time,
my heart leapt from me
You smile now,
I can see its pieces still stuck in your teeth
And what’s left of it I listen to it tick,
Every tedious beat going unknown
As any angel to me
Do you know, I could break beneath the weight
Of the goodness love I still carry for you
That I’d walk so far just to take
The injury of finally knowing you
And it ain’t the being alone
(Sha la la)
It ain’t the empty home baby
(Sha la la)
You know I’m good on my own
(Sha la la)
Sha la la baby,
You know it’s more the being unknown
And there are some people, love
Who are better unknown

HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO SHA-LA-LA UNDER THESE CIRCUMSTANCES ?!?!
😂😂😂 Best comment ever. I wish I could like it a thousand times.
😭😭
I don't care what anyone says, be it replies or the like counter. This comment wins best comment of 2024, hands down
Literally.
😂😂😂👏
Other artists say "I ignored the red flags"; Hozier says "if there were scarlet flags, they washed out in the mind of me"
I know it's supposed to be deep, filled with heartaches but I just laughed reading this comment 🙏🏽✨❤️
That is actually very accurate lmao
@@Gleebglorbcan you tell me what it means
@@Dnjzf well, hozier is very poetic and elaborate with words.
True colour shine in darkness....but you were surrounded by a blinding light
The way Hozier sings about love makes you amazed that such a feeling is free to experience
beautifully said 😭
I think the pain of loss is the price for love, I'm only realising that now. A fair price perhaps, but a costly suffering comes in the end for many of us. I was so lucky to have a love like that, even if it costs me dearly now. Its a very very lucky person who gets to love for free.
Onmymama n nem
@sazbear3913 "What is grief if not love persevering "
@@sazbear3913 you're so right...what an incredible take.
"The injury of knowing you" will forever be the greatest line
This man is truly out for blood with this album.
Hits the core of the soul don’t he 😅
What makes you say that and what do you mean exactly?
@@leif1075or me it means the words reach in and grab you by the soul. The instrumentation gets your attention and then he gets inside your mind.
That is so true, like they all are bops how does he do it?
Give you goosebumps with every word and cord
The warped fantasy you create about them, the dreadful longing, the searing joy of feeling loved back, the pain of feeling fundamentally misunderstood/unseen, and the ultimate betrayal that shatters the illusion.
I’ve never heard this experience articulated so beautifully. And I can’t help but appreciate the lovely irony of a song about feeling unknown making you feel so seen and understood.
Once again, this man has me blown away and lying in a puddle of tears.
This comment is almost as good as the song itself. It was summed up perfectly.
You have capitulated some dark but beautiful truths, friend. I feel you
❤️
So well put. The man himself would be proud. He really does capture that roller coaster of feeling post-breakup perfectly. The worst part for me are the periods where what you felt for them fades and you wonder if you ever really felt anything at all, or if even your mind was playing tricks on you.
Incredibly well put Pixiedust🔥
To be seen by the unseen ❤️
"Do you know I could break beneath the weight
Of the goodness, love, I still carry for you"
I love how visceral and vividly the words are when hozier talks about love - and this whole song another testament to how good a writer he is and the vocals are unreal too
And the beautiful guitar music...another masterpiece. Hozier, a gift from the creator of Love.
You could say the vocals are..... Unreal earth
That’s my favorite line, “I’d walk so far just to take, the injury of finally knowing you.”
@@gelflingmama God damn that line hurts so fucking MUCH!
@@shadowscp1391but it feels so great to listen to, everything soars and I’m addicted to it!
I know this is about a relationship ending, but that line 'so much of the living, love, is the being unknown' really hits me. I've thought before the real thing about loneliness isn't physically being alone, it's the feeling that nobody truly knows the heart of you. That's why you can feel entirely alone surrounded by even friends and family. That private, most vulnerable part of you being walled up is all it takes to feel alone anywhere, anytime. I really can't imagine what it's like to actually let yourself be known by somebody, and then lose that. Must be worse than never being known in the first place.
The phrase "If only they knew" will keep popping up in your head as you feel isolated from everyone else. Personally, for me, it's the possibility of being rejected when they end up knowing who you really are, that when the unknown becomes known you won't be accepted as who you are.
That's why discovering the spiritual dimension to life is important. It gives meaning to everything. Discover your own heart first, then you can properly be in a relationship with someone else.
It's totally right, i agree with you a hundred percent, me in brazil in relacionship right now i had to discover all of it by force, all a question for maturity that i didn't have yet, it growns up in me and in him and we listen this music currently with the traduction, and it's helped we so much yoj couldn't imagine. Hozier are magic, always have been and will be for a long time further. (Forgive my english, i'm brazilian and all that i know is by clips and music haha, but i learned so much cause you'll have so many beautiful songs xoxo)
You literally couldn't of worded that better man
Yeah.
Somehow, Hozier never fails to impress, you can't just simply "listen to hozier" its like you feel it too, love this sooo much!
Nah man I just listen to him cause a girl at work I like to fuck listens to him.
It's DEFINITELY music you feel in your bones your lungs in your veins everywhere
@user-se5qc4eq7r see YOU get it, all hozier fans do too I'm sure 😂
Absolutely!
@@its_Lo_FaSho nope just like fucking that one chick at my job. His music is okay but kinda sappy. Deftones is a lot better. But if 20yo women like him, by default I do too.
"there are some people, love, who are better unknown." i think about this line an uncountable number of times every day
The Nth...
I see myself in this line.
"Do you know, I could break beneath the weight
Of the goodness love I still carry for you
That I’d walk so far just to take
The injury of finally knowing you."
He is literally SICK for these amazing lyrics and that melody.
I'm disabled, an occasional cane user. Today was a bad pain day but I'm able to sway and dance with this song. It's a sad song but it heals my heart and makes my feet feel light again. Thank you Andrew.
What a beautiful comment. Sending love your way
Me too, my body is a piece of crap, my joints all betray me and break down too fast. Good music like this helps.❤❤❤
That bridge was one of the most transcendant things I've ever heard, this man cannot make anything that is less than incredible
hozier’s music never fails to make my heart swell when i hear it. i seldom feel that way with any other artist. how anyone can be this talented is beyond my comprehension.
To make my heart swell is the best way to put it. Every single song 😭❤️
I haven't even heard it, my heart is still swelling.. ahh

Yes! Just gorgeous.
“it ain’t the being alone, it ain’t the empty home, you know I’m good on my own”
I don’t know how hozier has managed to describe the feeling of pained longing so well in a 4 minute song. god damn it
Oh my god. Thank you!!! Yes!!!!
God forbid anyone went through heart break recently and finds This man's music. They'd be done for.
Poor Crowley
This has me crying over heartbreak from over a decade ago that I had thought long processed. Cathartic and healing.

I thought about Good Omens too when I listened to this song.
That Season 2 ending hurt me in ways I didn't know I could be hurt😅gut wrenching
Facts 😭😭😭
Yes! This is on my Good Omens CZcams playlist. I was sobbing last night listening to this. 💔💔
I truly think someone thinking of you as an "angel" or calling you an angel because they perceive you that way, is one of the purest and most beautiful forms of love. I can never get over Hozier's lyrics, every time I think he cannot get any more poetic and gentle spoken, he does. These kinds of words can only come from a person who experiences love as maybe the grandest and most beautifully consuming thing, that is the very core of life, so listening to his songs is like experiencing life through his lenses, and that's such an honor
😀 By any chance, is Good Omens in your watch history?

Ty, good to know someone appreciates such overdramaticness lol I like Hozier bc he feels as deeply as I do. Listening to him makes me feel seen 😢❤
I was singing along to this song out loud in a park while it was dark. As the part "Do you know I could break beneath the weight" had started playing, the wind started shaking the trees and blowing all around me. Hozier truly is THE forest spirit
Don't imagine Crowley sitting in his Bentley listening to this new album thinking of his angel 😢
I imagine that this is both Crowley and Aziraphale's perspective
great, even in this comment section i cannot escape good omens-
but yes, that absolutely fits.
How dare you 😭😭😭😭
Im bawling already maaann 😭
Lost my husband, of 35 years, to cancer in December…wept at the beauty of this song. Thank you ❤
To have a love last as long as yours is something written in the stars, in the very code of humanity. The beauty of a love like that is something a lot of people hope to portray in their songs. I hope you can take comfort in this music, stranger.
I'm so sorry for your loss💔
Know that you are not alone, even if only through our shared love for this beautiful musician who brought us to the same comments section. Blessed be 💞
this song fits Crowley and Aziraphale so much
Guess how I found it.
This song is literally good omens s2 anthem
"do you know, I could break beneath the weight / of the goodness love, I still carry for you" my God man you can hear Crowley bleeding this
Sobbing on the floor
Yep, 100%
These releases have been intentional. Every song has been so provoking, thoughtful, and moving. But this hit in a different way and the whole team needs their flowers. This is beautiful.
the amount of incredible songs you’ve put out will never fail to amaze me. thank you for another masterpiece.
When I listen to this song I understand how christian people feel when they say they feel the holy spirit
Glory to the Father, The Son, and The Holy spirit. ♥️🙏🏻
I've been going through some hard times recently, and Hozier's masterpieces are like breathes of fresh air. He never fails to amaze me, with his terrific lyrics and perfect melodies, he makes me cry almost every time. I'm so happy that he returned when I needed him the most.

Had the most spiritual experience listening tho this for the first time stoned sitting under the stairs at 1am. The amount of loved I felt in my body was overwhelming it made me cry and laugh. it was the most peace I’ve ever felt in life.
This man’s songs just describe AziCrow so perfectly 😭
hozier has a way of rephrasing and reframing thoughts and feelings i couldn't put my finger on and makes them so clear but also so new and scary and amazing and i just cannot be more in awe of this as much as of this album's other songs released until now
Yes 🙌🏻
"ignored the vastness between all that can be seen, and all that we believe" insane. this man is INSANE.
In the hands of a poet, 'red flags' turn into scarlet ones :) Yet another gem, this one.
There is something just so intimate about this song, not even about romantic love but how someone can feel so strongly about another individual no matter where they are they'll do anything to be with them
everything reminds me of that gay demon and gay angel
😭😭😭
So horizer gay idk somebody tell me
I've been waiting for this song to be released for months, and oh boy, does Hozier always deliver masterpieces
Woke up a couple of minutes ago and I am listening to this song as I am writing this. What a good beginning of the day. I feel like even if the lyrics weren’t profound and he was just humming random sounds, the melody would still carry the message perfectly. That’s when you know a song is good.
Love this take but still have to disagree out of respect for his phenomenal lyrics
Haha, the same here
I’ve waited so long for this to release officially and it was so worth it this song is beautiful and I’m crying
I just came out of relationship and I don’t think I’ll find any other song that encapsulates what I’m feeling right every lyric hits just right it hurts but I’m not alone in my feelings
MY GOD, THIS IS ME RIGHT NOW
Even love didn't know it could love the way Hozier loves.
They need to use this in Season 3 of Good Omens 😭♥️
Everytime I listen to Hozier, I am just glad to be alive. Literally, being so lucky to be here in this time and Moment and to be able to go through so many great emotions just by listening to this music.
Good morning from Bavaria :)
Hozier's lyrics always hit me right in the gut, and always seem relevant to what I'm going through. Words that I would've never been able to say, put into song. Nothing else resonates with me so deeply. Thank you for your talent and your passion Andrew, it's truly a gift to the world
The timing of this song coming out was so scripted for me. Went through my first break up after a 3 and a half year relationship with someone who I truly found myself with for the first time, the first someone who knew me back to front inside out. We felt like we could take on the world together until one day it just ended without any real question and we've slowly drifted from still being really good friends.
Nearly a year on this song is the direct translation to how I feel now. Thank you for helping me discover this feeling Andrew. ❤
I just had the privilege of watching Hozier perform last night & it was so beautiful watching him play this song, I started tearing up. He's so Majestic🥲
Aziraphale and Crowley are so in love.
Listening to Hozier's new songs for the first time is like opening a present box. Breathtaking
The fire of Longing and the fiery Ice of stunted Longing. The words. The music. The images. The Pain. Deeply touched. Crying. Thank you.
Recently went through the worst heartbreak I've had yet. This resonates so much with how I felt for him and how I'm now healing and finding the peace to move on, on my own. It seems optimistic and happier, but I'm able to reflect on it too. This song is so moving in such a beautiful and understanding way. I will forever love this man's music 🩷 he's a genius
I think this one will probably end up being my favorite off the album, I don’t know how he could beat it:)
I'm here for the Good Omens Vibes 😭❤
The good omens 2 animatics that will be made to this song are going to be war crime level tragic.
"It ain’t the being alone
It ain’t the empty home, baby
You know I’m good on my own
You know, it’s more the being unknown
So much of the living, love
Is the being unknown..."
the way you put my thoughts into beautifully crafted words and melody is beyond my understanding, Hozier, Lavya so much
This song just broke me down into tears in a way I've never experienced, and then held me closer than ive ever been held
Hozier is a one in a generation talent, He's got a golden voice
Hands down this is my favorite Hozier song. 💔
I knew deep down in my heart that it would definitely be an otherworldly saga of love when Hozier wrote about the pain of being betrayed and feeling heartbroken. The Man never fails to amaze me...❣️🥺
It's rare to find an artist that is so consistently brilliant in all that he puts out, and it's a real treat I'm not taking for granted. I have never heard a bad Hozier song. There are those I prefer above others, but that isn't to imply that the others are bad, it's just that I haven't listened to them enough such that they've wormed their way into my soul...yet.
The lyrics of this song are so beautiful that they almost heal the pain they remind me of.
I have no words to describe all the emotions that I experience from this. His music is always a masterpiece.
Listening to Hozier is like a daydream, like suddenly you’re no longer wherever you were, you’re in a field, staring up at the stars on a warm summer night. It’s legitimately so soothing.
'So much of the living love, is being unknown' why am i weeping like a child?!?
this song rips my heart out.
"do you know I could break beneath the weight of the goodness, love, I still carry for you? That I'd walk so far just to take the injury of finally knowing you?"
I thank the ground, the skies, the seas and the eternal fire heartbeat of the planet for Hozier.
I feel as if this could also be resonated with anyone who has been in a relationship with someone for years only to realize that they were never even that close to begin with and they don’t even know the person like they thought they did and yet still carry feelings for them. Like they were aware of the emotional distance within the relationship and yet not caring about it because all they wanted was to be with them even if they only had a piece of them. Maybe I’m the only one who resonated in this way?
A true Pisces and true artist in every single way 🥺
Hozier is extremely talented. No artist can make me feel the way he does. He has inspired my creativity that i thought i lost. My spark for art is back and now im designing a tarot deck inspired by his songs.
You got yourself a buyer already
Do you know I could break beneath the weight of the goodness love I still carry for ....this makes me cry everytime
“That I’d walk so far just to take…the injury of finally knowing you”. This melody, the lyrics have found a place to live on me…permanently! This verse is beautifully written. Every single track on this album has left it’s mark. All of this music changes me on a chemical level. Thank you for that Hozier. The truth is, ALL of your music, for the last 10 years, has gifted me this.
Again, Thank You Hozier.
See you in San Fran in October!!
You've put this so well. He is truly gifted in every sense. How he knits such powerfully beautiful, heart wrenching words together. I've got a constant knot in my throat listening to him.
This song touches every part of my being and somehow makes me feel everything. Love, loss, longing, sadness, hope, tenderness. It’s all there.
I agree and feel it in every song he sings. He touches you're being. And his voice is beyond beautiful and clear. So grateful for such an artist and talent.
That broken heart ticking at the end, still so fast and intense and persistent, as if adrenaline pumping after an injury. A fatal injury? Perhaps. Sure feels like it. All the details... a masterpiece.
This song just randomly came on a random Spotify playlist on my way home from work. The other songs were skippable, but this… I can’t even remember which number of repeats I am on right now.
It’s made me ponder deeply, which eventually led to tears being shed. That’s how I know Hozier is a great artist. Made me feel and think far too deep for a Friday afternoon. Usually it’s a happy time to go into the weekend. Nevertheless, I am grateful my ears have been blessed with this track.
my ears are always blessed by hozier's voice and melodies ♡
This was the first song I learned when I got an electric guitar, still my favorite to play. It’s not too difficult and very relaxing.
I can`t believe every time I listen to it, it`s getting better and better. The amount of emotion and hurt in this song is unbelievable!
This song is personal to me and the bridge part gives me goosebumps.
well done Hozier! It seems like you never let us down which is a surprise in the cruel and evil world.
This level of artistry is impossible without pain
I think this is it for me. This will forever be my favorite Hozier song.
This might be the most beautiful song ever written
This song is _exactly_ what life has been like between me and love
Going through a difficult time with my partner of over 6 years recently. This song resonates so well with how I’m feeling now.
This man is incredible. Listening to a song like this, which is so heart breaking, but it makes your soul sigh. It's like when you're going through it, and life is just weighing you down. You put on your favorite song by him, the weight is lifted , and you can breathe again.
This is exactly how I feel! My kids and my husband always know that if I'm stressing to put on Hozier and it helps take the tension away! His voice somehow just centers me!
Of course hozier made his ninth circle a love song. Thank you for flipping the script on such an old tale and giving us this masterpiece in perspective ❤
I'm on campus in tears with this song. These words ripped open wounds that I've never known to have, honestly Hozier I needed this album
“Do you know I could break beneath the weight of the goodness love I still carry for you?”
Oh my goodness how wonderfully shared 💛
The bridge in this piece of magic makes me cry every time 🥹😭
I got chills at the beginning of the song. Me, not knowing anything about how music is done, I just feel and KNOW that this is pure gold. And that it is poetry and love, and something else that I cannot verbalize. I am grateful for being alive and having the chance to listen to this.❤
This man is more than a great voice. He’s a classic poet. His semi abstract lyrics strewn together to make so much emotional sense. Sometimes he reminds me of Shakespeare. That might be putting a lot on it but just my opinion
this song helped me get through my first ever break up way back in September, I used to listen to it every night without failure to help me sleep without a clouded mind. It is super bitter sweet to see the studio version finally released, but I'll forever love this song for what it helped me in. ♥
"That I'd walk so far just to take, the injury of finally knowin' you" The expression of mournful love in these lyrics really kills you softly. It reminds me of another song that says "If you love someone, best prepare to grieve" unfortunately, that's what love feels like sometimes.
Originally when this song came out I was too happy, too blind to understand it. Now after a sh!tty breakup I can feel it yk. This is a gorgeous song and hope I live long enough to see more from Hozier ❤️❤️
