the sexual energy between this man and himself is TOO mucch
I kinda took it as very intentional part of the video, like hes flirting with danger/bad decisions
That’s the power of Sergei Polunin. You should see his other stuff, like the videos for Little Red and The Wolf, or his whole performance in Giselle. I fell in love with him in Giselle the realized later I had already fallen in love with him years before from this video, but I didn’t know who he was (let alone that he’s an incredibly popular Russian Ballet Dancer, lol)

Erik Willms you should writ poetry
His family was very poor and they thought by sending him at a boarding school for dance that he could eventually make money for the family. He had a come to Jesus moment and realize this while he was dancing for the Royal Ballet - the top of the top - and had a mini meltdown and got a tattoo (a big no no in top ballet dancer). Then his dance company fired him and he ended up going on talent shows that are on TV in his home country even though he was well known and incredibly talented. That had to be so hard but he persevered. He was catapulted into worldwide fame when he danced to “take me to church”. I would search that on CZcams because it’s incredible.

Polunin dancing on Hozier's song.......poetry in motion, LITERALLY!
I don't know what the true meaning or story of this video is but I interpreted it as someone facing himself and also finding himself through the movement. As he dances he finds more versions of himself, more faces he might have not found otherwise. I love it. This song is so special to me.

I can't describe it, but at about 2:47, when the choir starts singing, I feel like the human prison I'm trapped in is ripped away, revealing my iridescent soul, and I can finally be free enough to dance with the wind, and it feels like my tears can become star dust, and this new form is limitless, and my heart pounds from the depths of my soul, and I want to sing and raise my voice so loud the moon will hear it. It feels like what true, pure, love feels like. Not a soft, gentle love, but loud, adrenaline inducing, heart pounding, love that no man could ever truly give me. It feels like the universe's excitement, love, and longing for adventure put into song form, for us mere humans to enjoy.

For me it's clear this song is about the movements that a lover (who is about to leave you) causes in yourself, the dance seems a metaphor for the experience of being in love. He got two versions, one white and the other dark, as the decision of "should I stay or should I go?", the angel and the devil whispering in your ears. But just as we are astonished seeing him dancing, the narrator is as well, while watching his lover's departure movements
"When you move
, honey, I'm put in awe of somethin' so flawed and free" honestly he didn't have to go so hard but he did and I'm so grateful

This song is just so powerful because it's you who are telling yourself to move instead of another person telling you to. It's fine, it's completely fine if there's no one by your side as long as YOU are by your side. You don't need anyone to motivate you, YOU are more than enough to pick yourself up without needing anybody. Instead of waiting for someone to pick you up, let your own self be the one you are looking for.
He walks the line between gothic folk and popular rock so well.
Marimar
@@leyladerben4227 He just always combines spiritual/spooky lyrics with pipe organ music or violins or church choir type backings--this song still sounds that way to me but it's especially evident in his entire body of work. I think it's really cool that it could be both the soundtrack for a southern gothic movie or the biggest bop on top 40 radio.
Hozier's voice and Sergei's movement are beautiful together.
Perfect
This battle between the character's good side and his bad side really seems to illustrate Polunin's social media presence and his personal politics. He writes "love manifestos" and says he longs for world peace, and then he turns around and gets another Putin tattoo.

I feel sad that Sergei became what he became! His attitudes are so different from the beauty of his art. Every time he opens his mouth we have to face something that dishonor the wonderful gift that was given to him!
Honey I LOVE this guy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Him being a sexist, homofobic/transfobic person is the biggest “artistic” pain I’ve ever felt. With what he’s been through he could be such a huge person, yet he decided to say so much bullshit, I feel guilty because of what he gives me when I see him dancing (which could be his goal, but that doesn’t excuse anything he said).
That's exactly why I specifically typed "I have a huge crush on his DANCING", not him.

Or Fred Astaire in sequins
Honey, you, you're Atlas in his sleepin'
And when you move, I'm moved
When you move
I can recall somethin' that's gone from me
When you move
Honey, I'm put in awe of somethin' so flawed and free
So move me, baby
Shake like the bough of a willow tree
You do it naturally
Move me, baby
So move me, baby
Like you've nothin' left to prove
And nothin' to lose
Move me, baby
Ooh, ooh, ooh
Oh baby, oh baby
Move like grey skies
Move like a bird of paradise
Move like an odd sight come out at night
Move me, baby
Shake like the bough of a willow tree
You do it naturally
Move me, baby
So move me, baby
Like you've nothin' left to lose
And nothin' to prove
Move me, baby
So move me, baby
Shake like the bough of a willow tree
You do it naturally
Move me, baby
Thank you lyrics guy
It looks like it was written for Sergei ♥️
Thanks.
I always keep my eyes peeled for you, Mr. Lyrics Guy.
Ya doin’ God’s work muh boy!
Thank you!
I love art so much. The videography and the camera angles are beautiful, the dancer, the vocals and song lyrics, everything.
For me this video shows what it's like to have mental health struggles. You are quite literally fighting yourself and your own demons. But they have your face. Sometimes you win against yourself and sometimes you don't. It's such a beautiful video
Me currently…
Can we all just appreciate the fact that Sergei worked his butt off for his entire difficult life so that he could reach this place of being able to dance better than anyone else, and the most beautifully, and now he can do anything he wants. Like this video. And the first Hozier video. Stunning.
yes, Like S Polunin Leapin.... Divinity
Patti Billerbeck Amen!!
Beautiful words; beautiful sentiments expressed - and I love you for that Patti. Viva Sergei 💙💚💛💜👍👍👍
Amazing that Sergei Polunin danced on a Take Me To Church unofficial music video, and is now dancing on a Hozier song once again, but now it's the official music video
Apparently Hozier said in an interview, that he saw Sergei's performance to Take me to Church and it inspired him to make this song. Which is mind-blowing
To me, Hozier ain’t nothing but a pop artist for teenage girls who think he’s profound, but I loved the dance video especially compared to his usual inane stuff.
Sergei's talent moves me beyond words. Phenomenal
Hozier has the most deep and profound lyrics and vocals combined that produce such an intense sensual experience, it’s hard not to laugh or cry listening to his music..
This song is gonna be on repeat till the end of 2018, maybe even till the end of 2020.
I've just listened and watched it seven times in a row.
I’d say 2030 tbh
😂😂
My cover is here : czcams.com/video/U_4iWm4eEwg/video.html :) tell me what you think about it
Not 2020, 20020.
Sergei is such a beautiful dancer. I feel like this piece was so him because. I feel like he is actually fighting with himself and battling his own emotions and his mental stability
This! I feel like I can almost touch his anger when his dark self dances at 3:30
I thought it was Hozier because he can change character so easily! The gentleman dancing is very talented!
Hozier's voice combined with Polunin's dance touch a string of my soul I didn't even know existed. I don't know what's happening here but I just feel something deep inside that makes me rewatch this masterpiece again and again.
Even today, this song still moves me each time i hear it
glad to see he's visiting the mortal realm once again
keyanna oooh
I second that!
His dark self's movement at 3:29 is so ridiculously beautiful and raw
CosmicHoot omg thanks for pointing this out
I thought I was the only one who saw it. This video, the lyrics is a song that the heart sings, to itself
Serguéi Polunin is awesome
It has a dark touch to it. Kind of unsettling.
Can we take a moment to appreciate the amount of strength and technique the dancer used? Like goals, my word. How free and fluid the movements were, and the level of control he used in each intricate motion. He also fully embodied the music. I actually teared up. *claps*
Of course he does a perfect dance! It’s Polunin!
I've never seen such perfection and intricate moves.. It's.. Breathtakingly different from the usual... And it's in sync with the song at every step
Dancing Lyricist Sergei Polunin is a very famous ballet dancer! He was the youngest Principal dancer in The Royal Ballet. He chose to leave there and to explore more expressions of his genius like in this video and in other videos! Amen 🙏🏻
what type of dance OR art is that I really like it does it has a name?
@@timachan7419 ballet
The legend is back for one more dance.
Hozier + polunin So much perfection in one video
Танец Сергея Полунина десятикратно усиливает эмоциональное восприятие замечательной песни .
This is such a perfect pairing- Hozier and Sergei - they have some raw beauty in common
They should've got him to sing a James bond track
Yes that's right
This...
Abso-fucking-lutely!!!
Lol, as if it was the pinnacle of a musician's career to flog a silly anachronistic movie franchise.
@@vonrichthofen5734 seeing as adele and Sam Smith both have done one, I'd say so
