- In this video, we're going to talk about the Anbernic RG28XX. You can call it a review if you want, micro devices aren't for me and we'll tackle it from that perspective.

I disagree so often with most of your opinions in your videos and this is no different. That's why I am subscribed, I want to know your perspective as well. Thank you for your honest opinions 👌🏻
Don't know why, I haven't seen any reviews that actually like this device.
I'm normally no fan of the micro handhelds myself but ANBERNIC hit another homerun with the 28XX! Supports two 1TB micro sd cards, super long battery life, design perfect for the pocket, plays video and audio files well, love the onboard video player app, headphones give stereo sound when plugged in.
I'm about to buy one with an RG35XX SP!
@@Pridetoons Are you going to use a 1 tb card on this?
I had a *Dingoo a320* over a decade ago.
My "mature" 40+ eyes can no longer tolerate the tiny screens.
Shame.
@@FostersHomeFG Nah just 512GB. 🙂
@@adamkane7513 I understand completely fellow OG. 😁
I appreciate your honesty, personally I was drawn to it for how cute it was, especially the other color ways. But I think I'm going to hold out for the RG35XX SP, it seems compact without as many compromises.
You don't understand Joey, Anbernic is trying to make so many Handhelds that they basically control the Handheld Game and become the next Nintendo of Handhelds.
I am waiting for the $100/month subscription where you always get the latest handheld they release xD
Nintendo became Nintendo by putting out quality. Abernic is dumping so many handhelds that they’re at par with Powkiddy at this point.
@Foughtimor Anbernic puts out more quality rattlesnake devices than powkiddy tho
While I’m sure from the reviewers standpoint it is pretty annoying that Anbernic is pumping these out so quickly, but most people will likely buy just one of these and I think it’s pretty nice to have the same chipset in so many different from factors. I don’t really view any of these as new handhelds, more so revisions of the same device kinda like the GBA, the SP and the GameBoy Micro. They all play the same stuff but they all appeal to different audiences with different wants and needs.
Congrats on 25K big man 🤙
Appreciate it!!
Good honest review, I picked the rg35xx h with muos and I really like it. Playing balatro on such a small device is pretty cool honestly.
I just got one and I really like the form factor but I wish it had joysticks. I can honestly say that for the price buy the RG35xxh. It has all you need for most games including psp and Dreamcast. The varcade games are my favorite. I thought of getting the SP also , but the cost is touching a retroid 2s which for me would make more sense. Great channel!
I would agree with you mostly but I guess I am on the target audience and I'm definitely going to get a SP but I bought 28xx as an impulse buy recently, as I'm amateur photographer/videographer so I need less weight for whatever I'm carrying for the project.
I tend to rotate my handhelds.Current counting I have eight that includes the sp which I don't have yet. none them I would consider to be bigger then a medium size. Portability is more important than comfortability so whoever is the same as me where portability is more important and yes I would love if the a30 and the 28xx merged it probably be very close to perfect micro handheld.
3:34 Buy 2 and use it as "Maracas". 🤣
la cucaracha, la cucaracha, heyyyyy
I bought this one and the H model. This is my travel light daytrip device. It fits in my wallet and more comfy than RG nano
I’m early for once. I’m heavily debating buying this right now and hopefully snagging the flip model later tonight if I’m lucky.
Who 25k congrats dude 🙂
3:27 How do I get that awesome overlay??? I have an rg35xx H and it just comes with one and it's coloring it's really weird...
I think nowadays we're so used to large screens everywhere around us, its even more difficult to appreciate such a device, though we still worship our GBAs. IMO the biggest design flaw are those small buttons, miyoo wins this round with the A30.
The dpad and buttons are really the only thing that keeps this away from me enjoying it at the very least, even if it isn't for me specifically.
I Picked this one up last week I already got a bunch of these devices and didn't need it but the RG28XX looks like my old Pocket Go 1 but more powerful that was my first emulator and got this one outta nostalgia more than anything else but I don't mind the small size I got a 280V and Miyoo Mini so I'm used to these I already put in a full session of Crash Bandicoot 2 and my fingers don't feel too cramped it's fine for what it is I'm probably gonna get that SP next anyways I'm stuck in the rabbit hole lol.
Really appreciate honest review, the sound between games would bother me for sure. Hope we get a SP review from you at some point. 🍻
You will! I'm always the last to get Anbernic review devices.
Basically... Putting together this with the a30 controls and wifi I would get the perfect micro device! Could this be the rg28xx plus? Let's see.....
I love Anbernic. They have all the form factors for everyone. Fuck yeah. Why not.
As always custom firmware transforms the experience. Knulli OS changed this from a handheld I was lukewarm about into one of my favorites
Should have upgraded and made low cost the RG280M
RG280M is so good!
I was gonna get this but I think I will wait for the sp version.
Still waiting for my creamsicle to come in lol
Solid review, as usual. I don't have anything to say about this unit; but, any engagement helps the channel with the algorithm, so, yeah. I'm commenting to pump up Joey's numbers because those are rookie numbers! I hope everyone who reads this has seen "The Wolf of Wall Street" otherwise I'm going to look like a jerk. It's a reference! A modern reference to a modern movie because I'm still young, hip, and with it. Totally.
And this comment should now be long enough to serve its purpose. See ya'll later.
You're the best.
Assuming you just want ps1 and below, and something really pocketable for an unexpected 10min session around town, this or v90? Happy to hear others opinions too.
This, definitely not the v90 in 2024.
Numbers
Numbers for the comment
I actually really like. I do wish it had at least 1 analog stick though.
The older *Anbernic RG280M* might suit you?
@@adamkane7513the 280M is nice, but the chipset is really weak for today standards
I just got the rg556, and it's great, but that's not super super portable, the rgnano is too small, and the Trimui Model S is surprisingly comfortable, but has ghosting and lacks power. I may try this one out tho. Anbernic may not be perfect, but tends to be better then the others
My goodness, is that SNES running well with no tweaks?! EGADS
Pease help, I have searched for hours with no solution to what seems to be a simple problem, I have a San Disk SDXC 64GB card, formatted to FAT32, I have an Anbernic RG28XX, I copied the files from stock SD card exactly to the new SD card, however no matter what the anbernic will only turn on with the stock sd card, even though the replacement is correct size, correct format and has exact same data, can anyone help?
you are not supposed to just copy and drag to the new SD. You need to install the firmware image to the new sd card with a program called rufus. There is plenty of videos here on joey's channel. Just look for a tutorial on rg35xx h, plus or sp. Good luck!
Comment for the numbers
oh let me bring my popcorn
Smart is still 👑
The 28xx is for Joey's like me, who's first handheld was the GBA. The 35xxsp, is for guy's who grew up with the Gameboy SP,...and then (next month) there's the RG Arc for guy's who love the 1:1 screen of the Powkiddy RGB30, but want better quality.
,...and its funny that you keep calling this "micro". For me, this is "normal" for a handheld. The Trimui Model S is "micro", the 35xxh is "big" and the steamdeck is "HUGE". 😁
How the fuck did this happen? Anbernic hardware is missing the analogue stick and properly sized buttons, and the Miyoo a30 it's lacking in power... can't believe it, i was waiting for one of this to be the replacement to my beloved og pocket go
Closest to the Gameboy Micro so far
300x or whatever is was called. Anbernic made a Gamebody Micro Clone a while ago, looks just like it, weaker chip though
Wonder how you'll feel when you get that SP in your hands.
Yeah that's going to be interesting.
@@JoeysRetroHandhelds I am not sure how much I will like it, but just the memories it'll bring back, will keep me playing it. Plus, as much as I love my RP Flip, it has succumbed to issues with the dpad and buttons and I don't have any other devices I feel comfortable putting in my pockets... So I am looking forward to it, even if it's just mediocre.
For some reason, the SP doesn't count in the micro category for me even though it absolutely is.
GBA is one of my favorite device, it's going to be fun and hope the SP is good.
@@JoeysRetroHandhelds The SP was an awesome device. Having one that can play PS1 games along with all the GB series games, gets me really excited. I am always looking for new devices to play Spyro 1-3 on haha
From the sounds of it, the buttons are very clicky. Not sure how that will affect gameplay. Also, the L and R buttons look similar to the 28XX to me... So that may be a ding against it already.
I keep waiting for my "perfect" handheld to come out, but I'm starting to think I should just spend the money on a steam deck instead
The Odin is a good one (at least is what everybody says, I don't have that kind of money to spent) but the caveat is the price for a awesome emulation machine (no Pc games for you)
You joke about the "Pro" model, but if it has wifi.... XD
THAT'S CALLED A 35XX H!
Its awesome for Shmups! When turned vertically that screen is great
Orange.... Yes... Everything else... 🥱.
Hi Joey I love mine and yes its a tiny form factor. It works well. Along with my other bigger devices 🧡🤍 thanks for your honest review.
