- I visit Jaywick, a coastal town known for being one of the most deprived areas in the UK. I check out the housing situation, walk along the front and most importantly get into a dingy pub. Join ME!

You’re an I’m tube “leach” take a seat .
The Martello towers were built to warn of a French invasion. I deliver to Jaywick and really like the place. It's different!
You aren’t related to abl reselling are you? You’ve got a look
And sound like him lol . 👍🏻
The amusements is now a pub. Mum now lives down there, lovely people very much a forgotten and brushed under the carpets by Essex and Clacton Council
The rough area you first walked around is called Brooklands and all the roads are named after car marques. The area behind the buildings was flooded by the original land owners back in the 50's I think with the idea of having a large boating lake as part of the holiday home rentals. Unfortunately it drained away and after numerous attempts they gave up. I lived in Jaywick on Golf Green Road, the main road as you drive out, 25yrs ago and it wasn't as run down as it is now. Shame really. I live in Cornwall now, a world away in comparison. And the woman who said there were amusements a 25 min walk away meant along the sea front and into Clacton on Sea but only about 15 mins at the speed you walk !! I worked in the local job centre and it faced out onto the main road in Clacton. One day a builders van pulled up and a young guy in overalls covered in paint ran across to the job centre, came in and signed his not working doc and went back to work !! Hahahh... did make me laugh and I didn't bother mentioning it to the hierarchy. :)
You should have done!
At some time a memo went round telling people to take the adage *_"Only fools & horses work"_* literally but I missed that & been out doing the best part of 60 hours a week for 35 years to enable every fecker to do it!
You had a responsibility & an actual instruction to bubble him up - you should have done! 😠
I was just thinking that about the road names. Nice to see the Hillman one. I drive a 1972 Hillman Avenger.
My mate used to live there I used to get drunk at the local disco house can’t remember the name that was back in 1990
Thank you for acknowledging the system. WORK THE SYSTEM, it's there to be worked.

You mean you do some work?
I know Jaywick resembles a post apocalyptic campsite but I can think of far worse places to live. A lot of the shacks have character - they overlook the sea and beach. It’s coastal and has amusements, pubs and shops nearby. I can think of places in the middle of industrial estates far from good scenery inland with overpopulated council housing sprawl, motorways, mosques etc.I’ve never understood why Jaywick is considered worse - it actually looks ok.
Good clean sea air, far better than a lot of places I know
Jaywick shouldn’t have had houses built on it. The ground is not fit for housing and the area is not fit for living permanently like the guy said in the video. It ain’t the people’s fault.
I know Jaywick and I know many people that live there. Yes it is poverty stricken, but you will not find anywhere in the country that has a strength in community spirit like the residents of Jaywick!
They are amazing people with amazing stories to tell in how they try and overcome some horrendous circumstances in life.
I will defend the people of jaywick all day every day!
AND so would I seaport the great people of Jay wicked 😅😅😅
Used to spend half my summer hoildays in Jaywick, would of been about 50 yrs ago first time I visited , my Nan an Grandad bought a bungalow down there,
Remember the Never Say die, Mary's fish an chips , Dots the newsagent an gift shop , I loved it ,
Used to hate coming back to London,
Then I moved to Clacton, an used to visit Jaywick, far cry from what it used to be , the quaintness long gone , once Pristine holiday chalets an bungalows stand dishevelled, the cheery pensioners, longgone ,
Needs investment!
We use to holiday in Jaywick in the 50`s and early 60`s. I loved my memories of the place as a young girl. When we retired, we moved about 15 miles away from Jaywick and do not regret it.
Looks better than alot of housing estates...
Fascinating. I love this channel, especially the pub crawls.
Cheers pal 👍
Having one pint in one pub is hardly a pub crawl
Id take Jaywick over an inner city high rise , least its got the sea .
The fewer people that know about Jaywick, the better for the residents.
I would not want to see this lovely part of Essex destroyed by corporate vultures and construction companies selling properties way over price to people from London.
Let’s keep Jaywick to ourselves.
@@monk3yboy69 The tax payer. Working people like me, prop up Jaywick and it's scroungers. People with no jobs and nothing to do. Yet they still can't tidy up the area. Which would attract work and business.

But at least THERE FKN ENGLISH ,SO I TAKE IT YOU FORGOT ABOUT THE 7 MILLION SCROUNGING NON NEVER PAYED TAX MIGRENTS .

Get in, was only hoping for a lunchtime drink!! Nice one, you're a natural at this mate, brilliant.
Cheers pal, really appreciate it 👍
Anyone else here addicted to the Honest Places channel like i am? Top content in every video.
Yes. Been on this channel a month or so, great content.
Makes me keen to do my own little wanderings to places near me, if I have a day.
What amazes me is that you content creators always document the worst parts (brooklands ect) you havnt documented the beautiful beachside holiday homes on air b&b or the homeowners that take pride in their properties . I moved to clacton from Hertfordshire 4 years ago and been in Jaywick for over a year now . Yes there’s issues but far less than other places I’ve lived as the population is so small. Everyone keeps themselves to themselves and we help each other unlike almost every other place in the county . We have a community so incredible it’s heartwarming . We have a food bank that prevents people going hungry , litter pickers , dog friendly beach , incredible views & lovely people . Yes there’s lots of homes run down but most of that is due to owners planning renovations , can’t afford them or simply can’t be bothered . Jaywick is not just one estate seen on a tv show years ago it’s approx a 2 mile radius of a beautiful place with beautiful people - the fact content creators always see the negative and document the negative brings the place down further . In all fairness it doesn’t matter as people hating Jaywick allows residents to enjoy it further but having negative people OUT . No snobbery , no judgement , just people living alongside each other in peace and harmony with nothing but the best intentions , yes there may be a few bad just like everywhere else yet far less / how UNFORTUNATE . Not .
I know where I’ll be staying
What you said is absolutely correct , these I’m tubers are only after likes not the truth people like him are leaches.👍
Na it’s an absolute dump mate
Good for you
His channel is weird. I really wouldn't worry what he shows on it.
great that you're happy there mate and long may it last!
Looks like a shanty town.
I used to go there when I was a kid on holiday i loved it but it has really changed. Im going to go there on a rainy grey day and get some moody black and white photos, I've heard the people there are friendly enough, great channel you have mate.
Do it mate. It's great location for moody photography pal. Cheers mate
The people are really friendly.
Cracking work mate. Just found your channel and I love the content, right up my street! Keep up the good work.
My Auntie used to live at the top of Riley Avenue. Stayed there a few times in the caravan she had in the garden beside her house.
Did you enjoy your times there?
My Auntie was from London. It was a nice break in all fairness. Trying to think of what the pub was called we frequently went in. Last time I went there was the late 90’s so it’s probably changed quite a bit (or not)
Can't beat a rough pub, I used to live in Leeds but moved out about 20 years ago to York, one of the things I miss most are the rough boozers and chatting to the dodgy characters. They are the friendliest when you get to know them.
York is boss for pubs. But yeh rough and dingy pubs are always a vibe!
After they have stuck one on you and picked you up.😅😅

Nice vids. 1991 to 1998 i lived in clacton , used to go to jaywick a lot , it was worse then ,it was called a shanty town and them towers are called martello towers. Quite a few of em spread along the coast . Next to jaywick is St Osyth. They have nudist beach. Just sayin....
Got to say the locals seem friendly. They really need the local council to help them out, its almost like theyve been forgotten. At least they get good weather!@
Yeh forgotten is the word mate. Shame init. Good job they get good weather
Council woent help the British, only scrounging migrents ,give em our best homes ,free money education ,medical credit free motors, free road tax ,free dentists, you hot to arrive in a rubber boat sli g your passport in river along with your phones, and identity then you get it all for nothing
Back in the 70's we had a family friend who owned one of these chalets in Hillman ave remember having holidays there. Just around the corner was a pub called the Mermaid inn ( closed down now ) which was ok back then. I've been back there a couple of times due to work back in the early 2000's and couldn't believe how run down the place had become.
I understand poverty , been surrounded by it the best part of my life but did something about it and now mortgage free.
The thing that always gets me having debt collected on some of the UK's worst estates is that just like Jaywick so many still have cars parked outside their homes/sheds.
My first home was a council flat and I walked 2.5 miles to work , walked about 10 miles a day knocking on doors then another hours walk home doing another 2.5 miles...so about 15 miles a day in all weather for around 10 hours , if anyone needed a car I did but more than that I wanted a future.
I reckon somewhere along the line society lost the plot.
Awesome vlog as always my friend 👍
Good read that pal. Alot of people don't like to put effort in anymore. I admire your dedication 👍
I like Jaywixk, never been, but could think of worst places being stuck
Deffo be boss on a hot day 👍

I love this channel it always makes me laugh especially with your dry sense of humour , a couple of things stood out today , the walled in Motor Home and the 1970's fruit machines in that run down Amusement Arcade with some of the letters missing Classic , you should try Workington next in Cumbria i went last week and i saw a bloke with a screwdriver sticking out of his head , Brilliant fun 👍👍👍
Jesus 🤣 that deffo seems worth a visit!....and cheers mate 👍
I bet that fella gets great wifi.
I remember a program about Jaywick im sure it was on channel 5 many years ago. Yes it looks rough but majority of UK looks rough around rhe edges but it always has the same sort of people friendly that make you feel welcome.
Yeh the people seem sound 👍
Shame you posted only the grass parts of our beautiful sandy white beach.Behind the never say die you could have visited the Beach bar82 n had a full English breakfast or lunch or ice-cream deserts at tables on the beach . Had you gone in next to the arcade you'd have found lively Eldorado's pub where there's always things laid on Inc food. I've lived here 28 yrs n love the community spirit .locals will always help anyone that needs it and celebrate any occasion with like-minded people. Most properties are owned by locals . The rundown ones are mostly now owned by council who just leave them until get planning for flats! They aren't building for locals ! There are no council properties for rent at affordable rents in village! When you do these videos , PLEASE TALK TO LOCALS AND SHOW THE GOOD PARTS!! YOU COME HERE TO RUN US DOWN WHICH IS SO WRONG. I loved that show ,was sad when it ended wasn't fake people where real, and dirt poor
The opening shots were of travellers' homes and that pub serves travellers who have been barred from other pubs for fighting (I haven't seen them fighting in there to be fair)
Didn't know that 😬😬
In the 80's at Leeds Poly half a dozen of us used to crawl round the city pubs. One night down a dimly lit ginnel we saw a gloomy looking pub. It took a while to convince everyone to venture in. In we went, three or four "gangster types" sat at the bar. They couldn't believe six students had the balls to go in, but were really pleased we had. Had a smashing hour with them. The Whip!
Great video. I always wondered what Jaywick was like. The pub looks proper pony.
Cheers pal. It was the only pub there
£3.50 not bad these days considering they charge 10 euro in dublin
Mate i know! Gotta find the local joints in Ireland
You have to come to some of the early house pubs in Dublin ruff but good people !!
You can get €5 Guinness in pubs outside temple bar
Wow
Some of those houses dont look bad to be fair, shame the council cant tidy it all up a bit, least you got a Guinness!
Nah, just needs abit of tlc the whole area. Guinness was suprisingly ok

Looks a nice spot , £3.50 sounds good price , I live in Ireland and if you go to Dublin to the temple bar area you can pay up to €10 for a pint of Guinness
Jaywick definitely has character and probably has some proper unique people too. I love those old holiday chalets. My home town in Devon had them, until they were bulldozed for luxury apartments. Try somewhere like merthyr, or even some of the out of the way townships in north Wales, like well away from the touristy parts. That might be an eye opener..
Yeh alot of people keep saying that area!
You can really see how it used to be a "getaway" location. Small houses right next to the ocean, thin paths but you can imagine it bustling with people on holiday enjoying the summer. Such a shame how it's ended up and seemingly been forgotten about by the local councils. Potential there for sure. Hopefully one day some very rich person goes and changes it all for them.
Went for a weekend once. Stayed a night. Maddest place I ever went.

It might look rundown in parts but at least it feels like a British town, unafraid to show the Union Jack or English flag above their properties. It just needs investment to revamp the ailing infrastructure and properties. But living close to the sea in wintertime, during a storm doesn’t sound like fun to me, but at least you can buy a cheap pint in the local pub there and have a chat with friendly locals until the bad weather passes.
