What do you think of this video? Should I start a series of first impressions on shows?
Def do more first impressions 💯
Goated vid🥶
the only reason i even watched it was because the synopsis seemed so ridiculous. I STARTED IT THINKING IT WOULD BE STUPID LIKE RENT A GF. and i agree with the 'knowing aqua is a middle aged man' aspect because it is really weird but if we overlook that, it is a good show.
Please do!! love your videos so much, i always identify with you on being a girl that likes anime 💛
Loved it. 100% ❤
Yes!
I think the fact that the main character does not attach to the other characters who are "his age" makes him more believable. When he confronts the director on the dating show about how adults need to look after kids pretty much confirms to me that he isn't taking advantage of his situation.
I'm glad you're enjoying it! I'm also so glad they made the first episode movie length to adapt that entire arc, because nowhere NEAR as many people would've continued watching if it weren't for that.
Also based Kana enjoyer lmao
loli senpai is best girl 😤😤
@@inakyu the realest
Death Note + Boss Baby in the world of Victorious is such a bonkers description. I might just have to watch it.
The thing is with main character is that his mind is completely adapting to his body. So he is basically just a teenager with experience of life.
You know, I'm really curious about why the premise of the anime is the way it is. From the little minor things I've read from manga readers, the 30-year old in a younger body interacting with younger people gets less problematic as the series goes on (no spoilers, just trust me on that) but I've heard absolutely nothing about why the story even had to be set up this way instead of just doing something way more normal.
I have learned that "wanting to be reincarnated as a celebrities child" is actually a pretty common thing in Japan, so I guess it might literally just be because of that? Either way, really weird, no idea if it's going to have any relevance later on.
It's crazy how such a grounded story that aims to examine and talk about the entertainment industry, filled with realistic depictions of it's surrounding culture like the victim-blamey comments we see all the time (Girl gets stalked/stream sniped as she's doing an IRL stream on Twitch and gets comments like "Oh well, what do you expect from streaming your location like that? That's what you get for pandering to coomers lol" being almost verbatim used in the manga/anime) starts off with such a weird premise.
Yeah this is what gets me about the show, admittedly I've only watched the first episode so far, but from what I see and hear others saying the reincarnation aspect absolutely has no bearing on anything lol, and I feel like I would like it a lot more if it just.... wasn't a thing, like Inakyu said.
They could have had the twins be a little older during the time frame that most of the episode focuses on, so that Aqua is intelligent for a realistic level at his age, without having to be actually mentally 30 years old. OR, if the reincarnation premise _is_ kept, I think it would have made a lot more sense for Aqua and Ruby to discover who their past identities were early on, and that would help them bond with each other emotionally with mutually having those past memories of Sarina's situation and knowing how much Ai meant to her/them; it would be poignant for Aqua to be protective of Ruby knowing that (assuming that he was just a nice doctor who cared about her innocently back then, and not... in a creepy way, as I'd like to hope......), and his motive to avenge Ai would be much stronger and emotionally impactful because he's doing it for HER, as in Sarina, more than anything else, and would want to hide his mission from her.
As it is now though it just feels like wasted potential, and has no real reason to be the premise of the show, and without any emotional justification for it I just can't really get over the weirdness and creepiness of it all 🫠 even if it does get less problematic later on, if that just translates to "isn't brought up ever again", then..... why even have it in the first place. I'm sure for manga readers this was so long ago that no one even thinks about the reincarnation aspect anymore or remembers that Aqua is, in fact, a 30+ year old man....
@@ProPinkist the reincarnation stuff does actually come back into play later in the story but it’s a lot later in the story
Ruby is a living reason why aqua had to be Gorou if you think about it. Ruby doesn’t have a single thought about revenge but that is because she thinks that the only one to blame is gone. Only by being Gorou does aqua realise that the stalker was in both places hence he comes to the conclusion that there was foul play. It will become more obvious later but Gorou plays a huge role in the story developing the way it did. They just don’t make it obvious for the people that don’t like isekai being weirded out by the situation.
being weird isn't bad
As for the Aqua being an adult in a child's body, if I remember correctly, the manga explains that Aqua is pretty much a different person due to biological factors like hormones and childhood amnesia.
I feel like this anime has done weird things but just the plot and the plot twist it was done great
death note + boss baby in the world of victorious might be the mashup we didn't know we needed
2:04 "ITS A STRANGE WORLD-" cuts to Garnt and Joey 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I think the show from the jump did a good job showing the duality of idol fans: Fans like the doctor that, for the most part, seem like well intentioned people, and then the "if I can't have her no one can" kind of fan. Had the show not done that, I probably wouldn't have continued. I really enjoy the show so far!
Great video! I always love your content, and was looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this series. Honestly, Oshi no Ko is my favorite currently running manga, but I was more worried than excited about the adaption. I would recommend the manga to friends, but they'd get like halfway through what the pilot adapts and go 'this is too weird what is wrong with you'. I get where that comes from, it's a good bit of creepy anime bullshit to take in. If you can get past that and embrace the story for taking on this weirdness head on and see how the characters react to it, I think it actually informs them in really interesting ways. Aqua hasn't really shown actual romantic interest in any of the girls, and his understanding of his love for Ai evolves, just as his understanding of love does. He doesn't come off as a creep to me, just a really lost and confused man put into an impossible situation, with nothing but trauma to fuel an insane plan for revenge. He can't really fall for the girls in his life, because he still sees himself as an old man, someone that has to protect others, and seeks the justice he thinks only he can bring. He's refusing this new life as Aqua as much as he can. His character is so interesting to me because of that.
Ruby embraces such weird aspects of their current life that her brother refuses. She's such a chaos child who doesn't really think about the morality of her actions, or what the consequences might be. She's more and less mentally mature than she should be for her age, because she is so conditioned to never think about her future or her dreams. She ends up coming off as pretty hedonistic and terrible early on, but the more you think about her, and the more she actually tries to find her goals in life, the more you understand her. As a person that's been reading for years, Ruby is absolutely my favorite character, but it takes a bit for her to get some real time in the spotlight. I hope you stick with the show, because I really do believe it only gets better.
Spoilers for oshi no ko manga/anime:
I really loved the dating show arc. From the reality show premise to the internet, it feels raw and so in touch with what is today going on. It's like watching ditto parts that i have seen in real life been placed on her. And don't worry, ruby will get her own time to shine as she discovers a dark secret. She will get really clever and it would be satisfying to watch.
Girl I’m so happy you made this video. I was really excited to watch it but it’s so weird and pervy, I’ve seen people in the fandom “get off” on her breastfeeding and the idea of being a teen girls doctor? It’s so weird.
probably because most the Fandom are around her age
"Teen girls getting medical attention? never seen that in my life, gives me the creeps."
I can't wait for Ruby to take some of the spotlight in later arcs. She's a bit sidelined in early Oshi no ko, but current Ruby? Oh boy...
No spoilers but Aqua being an adult in a child’s body is actually touched upon and leads to some fantastic development and moments later on (s2 better happen so we can see it but we’ll get the explanation in s1).
I agree with you, that I don't get why the main character had to be an old man, and couldn't just be a super smart kid. Or even for Ruby (spoilers for the first episode), although she is also reincarnated, albeit she was a kid before, outside of the pilot she doesn't act any different than a normal teenage girl? It seems like a contrived plot device that's really not important anymore now the story has been set up.
I also feel like I have two main worries about the show. One, that it's going to be weird about it when it does that reveal of who Ruby/Aqua were in their past lives to each other, and I hope it doesn't, and they just stay as a normal sibling relationship. Two, I really don't want a romance thing, I feel like we're establishing multiple girls being interested in Aqua, and it's just boring compared to the revenge stuff and the idol/industry stuff.
I agree. I’m interested in the revenge and mystery storyline. The harem is really boring to me.
I'm having a hard time connecting the fact that they're reincarnated too. It stops mattering, like, at all by the the 3rd episode. Especially for Ruby - I see absolutely no reason why she would reveal her past life if she's already lived longer in this new life than she ever had. She's just a normal, gorgeous teenager lol
So I won’t spoil anything but the fact that their reincarnated does get shown to be more meaningful further into the story. Trauma from both their past life’s as well as their current ones blend together to create psychological effects that would be different if they’d just been normal kids
it all becomes relevant in the manga. Literally everything is relevant. But I find questions like "why couldn't it just be this" or that all of the sake of making it less weird kinda useless. Everything ever coulda been "why couldn't it be like this?", but at the end of the day, it is what it is.
But everything is relevant and worth it. You can wait for the next season, or maybe it's be a season 3? or read the manga
@@kamronspencer4910 Yup. "Gorou" is a much more interesting character than people think, his backstory at a glance isn't something you'd really take another glance at unless you really dig into it.
You’ve convinced me to try it!
I love your anime reviews!!!
I wanna add that this is probably the first anime since Perfect Blue to delve into the performance industry in a genuine, realistic way
My sister-in-law recommended this for me. I am older, I got into anime to bond with my son, then my Nerdom took on a life of its own. I am Otaku now. Do I feel creepy? Sometimes, because it’s not aimed at me. Good stories are hard to come by, but anime has it in spades. I haven’t seen it, but I have to now. I may have more in common with this middle age fanboy doctor than I should admit online.
Episode 6 had me really messed up. It was such a great episode but holy cow I was not ready for that ending.
Can you make a video about your thoughts of the new season of demon slayer when its ready ?
Nice vid btw :D
i def like the concept of this show, and how much it gets uneasy. ep 6's twist was crazy
Hi!
Just wanted to ask, what do you recommend: reading or watching Your Name, Weathering With You and Suzume No Tojimari. So weather I should read the manga of these or watch the anime😅😊
Shibkai films are so visually stunning especially with the soundtrack- i honestly recommend watching all of them and then reading to see what you missed narratively 😁😁
@@inakyu thank you for the answer 😊☺️
Hi there, I came across your channel through your "why are shounen girls trash" (and the sequels). In the past I've mainly watched movies (Ghibli, Akira, etc and read the odd manga so wanted to research anime series' more. The first one I watched was Lycoris Recoil and it left me wishing I had daughters or sisters I could recommend it too.
I'm interested in your thoughts as, to me, it's a show that seems like it sets out to subvert a lot of the tropes you mention in your videos (as well as movie ones).
I found the way the show swung from adorable slice of life to cool gun-fu scenes through to serious/tender moments utterly captivating.
If you or any of your viewers have not seen it, I'd highly recommend it.
As a manga reader, it's just so annoying when people call Oshi no Ko second Death Note. I understand that most people didn't see as much of a story as me. But at the same time, people see that the main character is manipulative teenager and they just ignore all other aspects of a manga/anime. They even view characters in the context of Death Note story
I went into this one knowing the first episode twist. I'm trying this thing where I don't care about spoilers so I can more attention to execution. I'm looking at how it happens more than what happens. This one fell kinda flat for me, because it's relying more on shock value than might be useful. Which, I think, is a kind of meta-commentary on commentary culture. We keep the conversation going because of the twists and then we navigate the plot using those twists as landmarks; we're going from trauma to trauma knowing another one is coming. I don't find that especially compelling, but I also think that's the point. It's weird, it's off-putting, it's having conversations about conversations, it's creator drama (with higher stakes).
I looked at the twist as a character study than meta commentary. The liar finally tells the truth at the end of her life. The one who cannot love finally loves at the end of her life, and that love fuels her son's hate.
@@Serocco That's a very interesting read and it does grant the story a lot. And I have to agree. The story definitely puts character first and I can appreciate that. I'm typically a "plot guy," though, so I tend to care more about what happens instead of who it happens to, but you made a super solid point and I'm going to fold your perspective into my own.
Do you post/share/host discussions on anime anywhere on the web? I'd be interested in seeing if you have more Thoughts™️ about Things™️.
The most wild thing about the entire set up for this show/manga...
Is how utterly unnecessary it is And how wildly irrelevant it is. If it doesn't exist... nothing really changes. Nothing about Aqua really changes if he's just a smart teenager or the whole prelife crud. His personality is.... typical for a 'smart' anime teenager. Overall above mid series, but nothing special.
You did Ruby so dirty with that out of pocket plot device slander like for what💀
I think you might be sleeping on Ruby, her stuff has already started, Hoshino Ai as a master lies and Aqua following that path vs Ruby enchanting people by being and wanting to be genuine and truthful.
At least that's where I think it's going.
I've read the manga, it gets better the more you read it imho. The beginning premise is what initially made me stop reading, but you get hooked once it really starts~
You convinced me I'm gonna try just by the animation which look like awesome 👀
I started reading this manga a while back, I will go to say for me, this is not a masterpiece. Following the manga the writing has been uneven, but when it hits, it hits hard. All characters in one way or another act like a plot device for the main character, but also have their own story to tell devoid of Aqua. For me, it's been worth following this manga and the show has done a great job with the adaptation and keeping the exposition regarding the social media aspects they are utilizing.
So true the manga sucks me in and then losses me but then sucks me in again.
Nice review as always.
With that said, it doesn't matter how well it's done, that premise turns me off instantly.
hahah exactly why i dont think it deserves no1 - it’s really isn’t for everyone
I love this series but good god, I'm more interested in being info dumped of entertainment culture, and the soft mystery-revenge going in the background. I could not understand why they had to be reincarnated. Istg if this turns out to be a magic realism at the end I'm gonna drop this.
I loved the anime. I'll be honest and say that I didn't even realize he was her OBGYN. I didn't think anything about his age either. Maybe it's because I've seen many isekai anime or I just wasn't focused on it, but the "creepy" aspects kinda went over my head.
lol anime can desensitize people! i loved the show overall too
IT HAS ARRIVED
I started watching this for the art. Spoilers absolutely ruin a show for me so when I saw it went to the to MAL I had to watch it... Becauase I knew if I didn't the whole thing would be ruined and well I didn't want that.
So I watched it... The first episode destroyed me just like any other persin who watched it. I was confused for at least 2/3rd of it but thay was okay. I'm now watching it every week. For both Kana, and just I love anime like this that are honest in their content. The entertainment industry is harsh and this anime being a crisism of that when no other show I know is... Is amazing. The intro being done by YAOSOBI who has a background in vocaloid music helps at lot. I think his background particularly helps because it helps give a "fake" impression on the music, perfectly illustrating what the show is. It shows the fakes, the lies, and the dark truth.
Aqua's revenge being both a highlight and a side plot works well for the show in my opinion. And I definitely can't say the show is for everyone. It is triggering and though I love it, it's hard to recommend for that aspect.
Hey Ina it's ya boi Archie, now with wanting the mc to be a boy growing up smart instead of him being a 30 year old man in a boy body. I think it wouldn't make sense to how he thinks in the show. I would have to suspend my disbelief if he's just a genius detective but this way at least I can rationalize why he thinks the way he does. That's just me tho
if i can believe 16 year old light yagami vs the best detective in the world i can believe aqua hoshino 😤😤
@@inakyu you got me 😅
---------------------*SPOILER*---------------------
I agree
It's weird but makes it more interesting imo, especially because he wouldn't really have remembered how Ai was and the day she died properly if he was just a normal baby.
My Favorite Idol. Oshi No Ko 🤩❤💜. Not Gonna Lie the perspectives of The Entertainment Industry for me were surreal. Really eye 👁 Opening.
No es un concepto nuevo, es algo que se lleva viendo hace mucho tiempo
4:54 um, what about Satou from Happy Sugar Life?
What ab the fruits basket video u said u were gonna do
Is it in dub yet
It's pretty early and it is the Kaguya stan in me talking, but this has easily been my favorite anime of 2023.
Honestly, Oshi no Ko's initial concept was wack as hell. I put up with it because I heard the twist was good, and I'm glad I sat through the odd bits because I actually ended up greatly enjoying the series.
Then I decided to read the manga, and it was also pretty good. The most recent chapters as of August 11, 2023 were kinda weird, but I'm gonna stick it out before I completely abandon the series, I've read much worse stuff.
to be fair, I actually think Rent a Girlfriend was a well directed show, at least for the 6 episdoes I watched. The problem was it wasn't good material to start with...
true
I think RaG gets a bad rep. It’s definitely not a great show but there are far worse shows out there. One thing I like about it is the characters are adults so all the fanservice and sexual humor isn’t creepy, unlike most high school series.
@@aintthatapotofeffluck8926 yeah those things are what got me to watch it originally, but hearing how the story progresses (I use that term lightly) it just doesn't seem at all worth the investment and I'm kind of over the whole "hot girls falling for a loser guy" trope.
I really appreciate your cometary
I’ve read the manga of Oshi no Ko only a few chapters and just decided that it was overrated to me, I feel like this story about the dark and terrible entertainment industry was fine but there are other stories like perfect blue or some other story that could bring that to the table if you aren’t familiar with those titles.
it’s fine I’ll continue reading at some point but it’s just not the best anime this season.
I haven't watched the anime yet but the first 20 seconds of this video have me concerned 😭
I’m A Number One Fan
👌
You sold me that show at the same moment you said it's from the same guy than Kaguya-sama.
I don’t why people obsess over Goro’s age. There’s no practical difference between him and the teenagers. He’s still physically 16. He’s just a bit more knowledgeable.
Also it absolutely contributes to the story. It’s just that none of the arcs where Aqua’s past really come into play have been animated yet.
Because some of western audience mindset is disgusting.
Finally a video of yours I can get behind and ONK is an great series being adapted so well so far from the music, voice acting and art/animation been killing it also having that 1st ep be an 1hour 20mins long helps out a lot been awhile since we've had such a dope first ep plus being a manga reader kinda knew it would blow up but not to the levels it's reached.
As a manga reader I doubt they would finish it in 2 seasons or maybe 3
it seems impossible to finish in 2 seasons. And if it does, I wouldn't even bother watching it. It'd be too painful to watch.
Finally someone said what I think.
The Saints of the Holy Ones & Zeros always Like, Comment, Subscribe.
Imagine saying this was better than Hells Paradise. Surprised you didnt get flack for saying this tbh but finally someone agrees
I felt like the show would have worked a lot better if Aqua never had a previous life and that was just the way he was born. It would make everything deeper in my opinion. Also, the show so far has hardly ever brought up their past lives. You'd be forgiven for thinking they were born normally if you skipped ep.1
You're so wrong. That would not be better.
The anime is really good but there are some weird things and the MC lowkey was creepy in the beginning
Almost as if being creepy is a part of his character.
You guys just want POC characters.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt like the MC was Light Yagami except not an evil, sociopathic douchebag.
I know its weird and all but let me tell you, what you see in the first 20 mins , is gonna be totally opposite to last 20
girl wdym rent a girlfriend is peak
Obviously overhyped
The characters are very VERY well done to the point that when put in different settings they just bounce off of it naturally
Like you said sometimes it's high school other times it's about work or practice no matter the setting the characters fit perfectly, they make the story as they go along their journey and have A LOT of agency
These types of characters when done well usually just blow you away with how good they are and kaguya sama was also the same with its characters
Isnt Aka a man though?
weridest?
Huh, maybe I'll give it a second chance, because I actually stopped watching as soon as the creepy doctor was reincarnated.
That is not creepy.
Im certain that all the fetishistic aspects of the show are not Aka Akasaka's but Mengo Yokoyari's making. She is the one with messed up hentai credentials
I dropped the show after the second time dude said "yea im a pedophile but please dont acknoledge it"
Who said that and when?
Pretty werid title ;)
I have mixed feeling about this anime. I don't understand the crowd that rate shows ''10/10 masterpiece'' after one episode or something unfinished... Watching Oshi no ko reminded me once again that it being labeled seinen, does not equal the dialogue or writing is gonna be complex. In short, nothing seemed to stand out to me positively. Visually the still frames look nice and colorful, with a few interesting scenes here and there, but still there's a lack for detail.
The writing in one scene in episode 1 was so terribly in your face, I burst out laughing.
Mc is at the hospital and overhears 2 guys talking while watching tv. One yells ''would I be reborn as the kid if I died right now??'' Oh gee, what do you think is gonna happen, want to tell me a 3rd time?🙂
