most female mangakas nowadays makes mostly shounen manga, don't know why but that's it, most male authors LN mostly, makes romance based on their fetishes, which I highly dislike, they do the same thing with other genres but hey not that I'm blaming all male authors, I just think that Webnovels are to blame here while some Webnovels or Webcomics also carries the industry like Horimiya, there's this certain LN site in Japan where it's full of cliché webnovels but for some reason way more popular

You just explained my life trajectory. Recently, Thai BL dramas have been hitting. I used to be able to stomach harem and shounen romance but for the past few years, it feels like all comedic anime adaptations with romance just devolve into men being horny or something. And sure there are shows like Komi Can't Communicate but the rest just makes me feel like crying into a ball after binge-watching Clannad. Recently, I started to watch old anime like Kuragehime(Jellyfish Princess) and Ouran Highschool. BTW, after rewatching Ouran, I realized why I fell into the well of danmei. Like the twins were not playing. I did not remember it having so many 'sus' moments.

For a lot of shoujo animes, they are pretty often left unfinished since the studios can't/won't animate another season even though the story still continues farrr along, so it's best to just read the mangas because they give you the closure you need and provide more depth to the story, but also include scenes that were left out of the anime. As her father puts it, "No normal man can handle you", and the harem appeals to her fiance to take her concerns seriously when the two disagree. While the Demon Lord is at first surprised by the size of her harem and the depth of their feelings, he soon comes to call them her " puppies" and "loyal hounds". I'm still holding out for a reboot of the entire Kamisama Kiss anime that completes the manga.... the OG anime series and OVA were phenomenal with an adorable soundtrack, but I'd love to see it rebooted and completed. And yes... reading shoujo (and Shonen, and Seinen) manga got me through high school, college, mid-20's question-every-decision crisis, and... I'd still like some more shoujo anime.

You're so so right about this. Reading shoujo mangas after the disappointment of not getting more seasons is what had been keeping me up!! I've already read the ones you recommended and these deserve their anime adaptation so much, especially qq sweeper/queen's quality! 😩😩 I would personally like to add 2 ongoing must check them out from my current shoujo reads:
Colette was shinu koto ni shita by Yukimura Alto is a cute and fluffy Greek myth inspired tale of a young doctor apprentice named Colette who *accidentally* falls down a well and gets transported to 🥁 hell meeting with the very own ikemen Hades who is currently ailing and the dead spirits begged her to cure him as she was from the living world. The story follows her journey as she keeps on going back and forth from up earth and down well to hell with her duty as a doctor. Hades is such a pretty boy AND a gentleman like??? get it gurl! They slowly fall for each other and there's lots of comedy and other gods appearance adding fun it's like the cutest thing ever.
Yubisaki no renren by Morishita Suu is another sweet heartfelt ongoing shoujo manga that I'd want everyone to check it out I mean seriously go and read!!! The best part? Its university life centric y'all! The story follows a sweet-heart-of-an-angel girl with hearing disability and a handsome gentlemanly boy who loves to travel. Their love story progression and interactions are so freaking cute and pure I can go on and on how he watches her so attentively as he's learning how to sign language and telling her about all the stuff he's seen and done in his travels and how she is surrounded by wonderful group of friends (childhood best friend third wheel spoiler 👀) and her supportive family. It is extremely heartwarming and yet leaves so much to yearn for. Both the story and the art is just chef kiss ✨ if this manga was a song it would be Enchanted by Taylor Swift fr

I'm an aspiring author and a lot of my story ideas, one in particular, are very much inspired by shoujo anime! I'm thinking of using the title: Boy Meets Witch... Very much a work in progress still but I agree with you so much!
Edit: I usually prefer to make romance only a small part of the plot. For example, in Boy Meets Witch, the storyline is more so about the characters learning to love/accept themselves or even forgive themselves for past mistakes. The "love" for the most part, is unrequited.

When it comes to shoujo manga and anime, I've really enjoyed them as a teen and still really enjoy them as an adult when I can go back a rewatch them and still enjoy it, like Ouran High School Host Club! But I can't help but question whether or not the stuff I used to like and might still like now and want back is because of the nostalgia I had of watching those. As teens, I think most of us were very romantically inexperienced, which is why these cute scenes may have flustered us so much. And we remember those feelings we had when watching them, since it was likely our first time feelings those feelings as well as it being so intense.
I think the only way we can really test whether it's nostalgia or we just really liked it is if we can watch it now as an adult and still feel immersed in the story and get excited about it while knowing what we know now about romance, manga and anime.

The horrible part of Horimiya is how the series sidelining Hori who is literally the main protagonist. They highlighting Miyamura character developments but abandoning Hori. Hori has great premise but they make it worse by sidelining a lot of her problems like seriously, she has severe family issues but nothing is resolved until the end of series. She even becoming revolves around Miyamura instead of focusing on herself. Ofc Miyamura kind of revolves around her but he has clear development and his problems are being solved little by little. Hori wasn't given the same treatment as Miyamura that's why Horimiya falls under shonen series instead of shojo. Sidelining female characters are common in shonen series afterall.

@@niaputri2094 I was really curious why Horimiya was considered a "shonen" until I read your comment. Actually I had a hard time wrapping my head around what a "shonen" romance would even be like since I associate that term with action and things that interest boys. Honestly, I really couldn't imagine Horimiya being created for the boy demographic. Not that some wouldn't like it, I just imagined it might cater to either more feminine or mature audiences. Ultimately, I can understand your view about Hori being a bit sidelined in terms of character development, but I still have a tough time wrapping my head around the concept that Horimiya is shonen. I think its a fair criticism of the show, but not something that should define its genre.
