I'm on board with the rebuild. Nice to keep this one original. 1965 was such a great year for car design in general, most manufacturers retooled and offered new drive trains, bodies became more squared off. Always liked the roofline on the '65 mopars

Despite not running, this is one of the most amazing revivals I've seen. I love seeing stuff dragged out of the forest after sitting so long. I really can't believe that trunk lid isn't eaten though seeing as how there were plants growing on it. It would definitely be cool to see a rebuild on that motor too!

  • @bixfrisbee2623

When that valve cover was removed at 27:26 I said, "Oh no." To me it looked like someone (young kid probably) had run the car for years without changing the oil or even topping it off. I'd really like to see an engine rebuild or at least a forensic failure investigation as I'm also a big fan of 1965 Chrysler/Dodge models.

  • @johncovington9471

I vote to keep it numbers matching and pull that motor apart. That is a rare and unique vehicle, even if you don't do a complete restoration it could be a valuable multi video for bringing it back to life. We have seen several 440 and have 460 builds, how about building us a 383. I helped a friend bring back a 65 Fury with a 426 cross-ram wedge. Talk about rare.

Dylan: Really enjoy your videos. Been watching with my son for the last couple of years. I'll echo the comments by others recommending a video on a tear-down and rebuild of that 383. And if it turns out that it can't be rebuilt, I have a complete HP-383 sitting on a stand in my garage that I will donate to the cause. It needs a carb, alternator and fan belts. Pulled it out of my '66 Chrysler 300. Engine ran well and had good compression.

Very nice ride. Glad to see it's getting another lease on life.
I would bet my last donut that the odometer has gone around at least once (putting it at 147,000). The service records appear to have ended when the car changes owners.
Many old 5 digit odometer cars never made it past 100,000 when it came time to sell 😉
But, you never know. Great ride and well optioned. Looking forward to more updates. Take care.
PS; Your very fortunate it didn't have a vinyl top all those years. The rust, especially on the rear pillars would have been MUCH worse. Nice patina actually. 👍

Hey Dylan, looks like 30K likes is achieved ! Way to go ! I am a huge fan of the Dodge Monaco, and would love to see that big beautiful car brought back to life. From the video it looks like the body isn't all that bad. Even if a new (used) motor is needed it would still be a great achievement reviving her. God Bless you and the good works you are doing. Rob.

OK Dylan, I'm going to put my two cents worth in here. The "sludge" you were seeing in the valve cover and on the rocker arms was generally caused by Motor oil with a graphite base. So yes, they did change the oil just like they were supposed to. (Your records in the book proved that.) But that old motor oil with the graphite caused all of that. It probably caused oiling problems in the bottom end, hence the locked up motor. But a 65 era 383 is definitely worth the trouble of saving.

Yes Dylan, this Monaco is more then worthy of running and driving again!!! But PLEASE do not do an engine swap. Once you get the heads off her, you can free up the pistons with shocking them. Uncle Tony's garage does it all the time. Looking very forward to viewing a lot more on the classic. Thank you.

Love that old Mopar style. Good bones on that car, would be great to see it on the road again with a refreshed engine.

That thing is utterly beatiful, many of those were turned into lowriders, id really love to see a restoration, or atleast see it sold to somebody who will restore it.
As a Finnish man, i cannot believe that in the US cars that we consider exotics, are left to rot for decades

not only were some left to rot, most of those are used in demolition derbies, these big c-body cars are coveted by derby guys for their thick sheet metal and tough frames. btw, i hate demo derbies

Noooo, rebuild that engine. When they're gone they're gone!!! I had a 65 Monaco wagon with the 383. A great engine!!

I agree with most people on here take that motor out and rebuild it! I’d hate to see a different motor in that car put it back the way it should be and take it on the power tour!

Wow, I had a 1966 Monaco 500 with a 383, same color. Was waiting to see the same crinkled bad lead repair on the driver-side C-pillar. When i got the quote to re-do the car i elected to buy $300 VW beetles and Karman Ghias, to rebuild and pay tuition. I sold so many of those for $1300. 1 per semester for 4 years.

The best success I have had for breaking loose a stuck engine is going to sound weird but I have had 100% success by pouring vinegar in the cylinders and letting it sit overnight and a couple times I had to let it sit another day or 2. Vinegar actually eats rust and works amazingly well and it will be the best odds of freeing it up yet requiring less work to do it. The ATF in the cylinders will have to get siphoned out to make room for the vinegar which is heavier than oil or ATF so it will make the oil float to the top so it can soak into the area between the pistons and cylinder walls to eat the rust from those areas. It may require sitting overnight in most cases but if it’s really bad it may take 2 or 3 days before it frees up for you, but IT WILL free up. Use same vinegar that you already have for putting on your salad and once the engine breaks free make sure to change the oil immediately because it will have all of the vinegar in it from the cylinders and oil the cylinders immediately as well or they will flash rust. When you are changing the oil with the vinegar in it or handling any parts bolts etc that were put in vinegar to remove the rust or handling the vinegar the parts are soaking in, be sure to wear rubber gloves or any contact with the vinegar that has had rusty parts or bolts or steel or Iron soaking in it because it will have turned black and will stain whatever it comes in contact with a black dye that Is the worst dye that you will encounter and your bare hands

    Another vote for a re-build! 🤞

Resurrect this one Dylan!! I'd love to see this one come back and be parked right next to your Challenger with some wheels on it as a true survivor!! I have to admit, this would also be badass with a modern mopar drivetrain swap. I was never much of a classic mopar guy as a kid, but i've come to love and appreciate them as I've come to love the modern brand as an adult. Roadkill Garage has helped that along as well.. This Monaco is awesome.

The engine definitelly needs to be rebuild. It is an amazing car and by making it a full original, it would transform it into a real piece of art. It would be very interesting. Greetings from Greece btw your channel is awesome!
