Hallo all you Britons. This series is among the most viewed programs in Sweden right now. More than one million viewers! (5th place in Top Ten list.) And how well deserved. For the first time in my life I´ve been able to watch birth scenes. Thank you BBC! (my great-grandma was a midwife btw. In second half of 19th century in the very north of Sweden. No maternity wards. Had to ski between births. Had 9 children of her own.)

I predict that Miranda Hart will win an Oscar someday but not for a comedy. She has dramatic potential that has not been discovered. There is a wealth of talent in her and Producers would do well to tap a project that she could easily knock out of the park.
I agree! I was sobbing when she her mother was dying on the show...her dramatic perfect was deep and spot on..

eau de nil literally translates to "water of the nile." it's a pale sea green color...much prettier than it sounds, really. ^^

I wish Chummy could have stayed longer but in the book she does marry her policeman and they go to Africa. Never liked that the leading lady took off apparently for opertunitiesn in America, that never happened.

In the book the bobbies went out in pairs at night , while the mid wives went alone . I can only guess the hurt that would fall on any punk who interfered with them .
The Nonatans as they were called were really respected in the community no one would have ever touched them. In the book Jenny writes that everytime they went out everyone of the cockney's greeted them all the time and they deeply respected them Sister Evangelina was buried in Poplar at her own request as she wanted to be with her people they called her Sister Evie and she was just as blunt and firm with the patients as she was in the show. They all trusted her and did as she told them. The scene where she farts to gain Mrs Jenkins trust is also true as well after that Jenny states that whenever Mrs Jenkins was difficult she would tell her that Sister Evie said so and Mrs Jenkins would let her treat her, her story was so heartbreaking she ended up in a workhouse and all her children died there.

honestly tried watching an episode, but it's just so boring.. agh. idk why it gets so good review on imdb.
Different strokes for different folks. I personally love it, but then again I grew up reading my mother's medicine books. I already knew how to assist on a home birth by the time I was eight (the theory of it, at least). Not everyone has the same taste in shows. There are some that are extremely popular that I really couldn't get into.
