- Simple and Easy. Still learning how to explain better so hope this makes sense. Give it a try if your car has this option.

Manuel saves me a lot of speeding tickets. When I’m on gear 2 in NYC I stay on that gear to avoid going faster and getting a speeding ticket especially on Sundays. Vs automatic you can hit 37mph by mistake and get a ticket.
That's why we can still drive manual for automatic cars now a days
Down shifting is where I get lost , I don't know how to down shift
Try to memorize your cars gear ratios. A good way to start is 1st - 10mph 2nd - 20mph 3rd 30mph and so forth. When shifting from say 3rd to 2nd, wait until your very close to or at 20mph for a smooth shift. But this will depend on the car.

@@MarcellPlazOn yea I have a 2006 g35 automatic but want to learn to shift it idk when to shift it 😅 lol when I down shift the car jolts a little like it kicks in to gear it's not smooth at all I think I'm doing it wrong
@@isaiahrobinson4600 give it a little gas when downshifting otherwise it’ll engine brake
Thanks alot my guy, just got a Camaro RS 2014 and also just started driving a few months ago. I was curious about the paddles but didn't wanna fck up my car so I avoided using em. Thx to both ur vids I'm feeling pretty confident, so thx and have a great day my guy 👍👍👍
They’re easy and fun! You have a good day as well! New videos coming soon 🔥🔥
Typically shouldn’t have a problem with messing up your car in this mode, computer is in charge of never letting any dangerous shifts happen to your vehicle. Only thing it won’t do is stop you from going in reverse at 70 mph or something, then…that’s a huge problem
Got the same exact car in white bro 🔥💯😂
Mine is a 4 cylinder 2020 Chevy Sonic LT are they good to drive in the winter time in just automatic without the manual mode
I am afraid to use mine right now, the shifting feels bizarre and confused and chunky for me (Saab 9-3 turbo). It was never like that with my Audi A4.
Hey, I’m old school I used to drive a Mustang that was a three speed on the floor and I always drove manual but now Ds I drive an automatic Kia I just bought I can switch it to automatic my question is do I let the gas off like I did when I would put my question so basically do I let my gas off when I shift manually in my new Kia?
I struggle with shifting up after coming to a stop. I try and let the gear run up to between 3-4k the shift up but when I do it jerks. Another thing I struggle with is downshifting to a stop . I have a 2022 Corolla and it shift for me if I let it run too low so sometimes I will be counting the shifts in my head when suddenly it skips and my rhythm is messed up.
I read, but this is not in the manual, that the manual shifting works from gear 2. You might use W mode instead. Chrysler Crossfire
At what point do I down shift? Under 2,000 rpm’s? I want to get a Scion FR-S but a lot of them come manual, so I’m trying to at least learn rpm’s and a little about shifting
Yes under 2k rpm’s 1.5k rpm’s is suitable 😊
That’s a good range for RPM’s. I would down shift under 3,000
@@speedmuscle528 OK then after that downshift do you just upshift after that or do you can you downshift again?
I have a question, I've only driven manuals before and I want to know: if I'm driving in manual mode of an automatic and I'm slowing down, do I have to do the downshifts too? Like when coming to a stop and I'm going in 3rd gear, do I have to get it down to 1st or the car will do it by itself? Thanks for the video man!
Yes you have to downshift too if using the manual mode on the automatic
It depends on the manufacture and year. My 2021 Camaro is an automatic 10 speed but as I slow down it downshifts on its own so that I don’t have to pull it down like 5-10 times lol
@@sketteoz yea true my camry skips from 8 to 4
I have a 2013 Scion FR-S I only use manual mode and it’s shifts down but, from my experience and idk about others, manual mode gives me a much better stop ability so I shift down you don’t have to but for me it takes way longer to stop.
I’ve been doing this in my car I have a bmw 328i 2007 idk if my car will down shift on it’s own when I stop so I just try to downshift around 1k Rpm’s or 1,500 but sometimes I feel my car jolt just a little so when should I down shift
I'm driving an Audi A4 2013, and when I downshift (between 1k-2krpms), I notice the car jerks a bit and the rpms go really high. I have never driven manual so idk if this is normal or I'm doing something wrong. I usually apply the brake while downshifting.
There a sweet spot for down shifting in every car, ur just not hitting it but it won’t do anything to ur car. Over time you’ll get a better feel for it
@@rybread3354 so does it really just take kinda just doing it over and over again yourself like no CZcams videos actually gonna help you figure out the car exactly I’m assuming right you just need to do it yourself
So we need to release the gas paddel in the shifting time up or down gears.please answer
Not really. On the Camaro I didn’t have to.
Thank You this was my question too, Do i need to release the accelarator when shifting,... Mazda 6 V6 2009 and can i stay in manual mode for just one gear one Up or one down or can i go like ...1, 2, 3,4 etc???oups my question is for Speedmuscle 😅
Nooo you don’t need to release the break or gas when down or upshifting
You can use Manuel mode for all gears and if you mess up jsut shove back to D and it’ll correct itself
@@DeezNuts-tm1bu thanks a lot for answering 😅😁😎, have a great Day and a Great Life, God Bless You 🙏😇
What’s the best gear to start on when your trying to race someone on the track. Should I start at second gear, down shift and then start up shifting?
If you are prepared to jump up gears quickly you can start in first. If you want something akin to manual takeoff, start in second.
@@thelinedrive so if you’re racing somebody when should you downshift like in manual three or does it not depend what Geer your in when you down shit?
I’m wondering if you can power shift
Is there a speed at which shift should happen or it doesn't matter what speed switch the mode.. how does it work on triptronic ??
I usually switch it with low speeds. Tiptronic is the same concept. Using the + to shift up and - to down shift. The speeds to shifts can range, just depends on the car but I usually shift between 2k RPM’s & 3k.
@@speedmuscle528 my ride is a Korean suv called korando 2014 with triptronic. Is there any myth that we should not shift from automatic to manual mode ar high speed to speed up??
I would do some research on the vehicle you have. With my Camaro I did it by accident a few times at high speeds and never had problems.
My acura tl 07 automatic/ manual , it has a clutch with paddle shifters and plus minus shifter options like this car. Do i have to use the clutch on that car? Thanks for help.
Thats not the clutch its probably you’re e brake
What’s the beat playing in the background?
Can you only start in manual from stationary ? what happens if you are going along, say at 70/80mph, in D & then change to M on DSG gearbox. Will there be crunching sounds from the gearbox & will car drop speed abruptly ?(getting an automatic car next week & never driven auto before !)
I doubt it but I wouldn’t do it. It happened to me a few Times going aprox 50mph and all it does it tells you the gear is currently in and you take over.
Ur car will start red lining like a mf but once u start slowing down it’ll hopefully catch gears
@@WGESTAXKS stop cappin
If ur driving automatic n you change it to manual it will just switch over to manual and keep you in whatever gear automatic had you in unless you shift, so you can switch in between the two while driving and it won’t do anything to ur car
Yea he ain’t explain nun 😂😂😂nobody scared to use it are we gon break the mf is the question
Thx for the video, just wonder if I need to lose gas when upshifting, sometimes my car shift hard on the cold start. And if I do shift and lose gas, it will not hard shift. Just wonder if anyone else do the same way as me
No you don’t need to let off the gas 😊
So then what are the + & - on the steering wheel for?🤔
I have a Volkswagen Jetta 2016 I was wondering how u would do tht
i’m so late , i just got a 2011 and want to drive it in manual mode but when i down shift do i press the brake too lol
Plz tell me where you from with this “teuw “
I was going 55mph but there was a car in front of me that slowed down to25mph in a few seconds, so I had a had time shifting down because all I could think about was to step on the brakes, as I was slowing down, the rpm went up to 6000,but keep in mind this is a small suv, and I am not a formula 1 driver , so I quickly pulled over and tried to down shift the gears, after that I put it in drive, does anyone know what I should’ve done instead
Is this a 10 speed?
i guess the question is, why though would you need to do this in a automatic ?
Using the option +/- and the paddle shifters could bring a different experience when going to the track, etc. It all comes down to personal preference but is mainly used just to try something different.
@speedmuscle528 when you switch it to +/- do you have to Change the gear since it's automatic
depending on the car you're driving it could completely change how it drives... for example I drive a 2012 Maserati v8 and its still a great car in regular drive but when I put it into manual mode its like I teleported to something entirely new. Liked going from a sports car to a sports car with 5x more juice lol
Semi-auto the best of both world but are insanely expensive.
When do I know when to down shift when slowing down
Usually around 1.5k rpm’s
I heard that You should downshift while going downhill to spare your brakes, can you talk about and explain that?
I’m not exactly experience in this subject matter so i may be wrong but I believe this is called engine breaking and will slow down the car without you having to use the breaks
Im trying to see when to shift... this video doesn't show much
You can feel your car and know when you need to shift.
@@ali20_your dumb
@ali20 that doesn’t mean you’ll know the feel though, after driving automatic for a while there’s not a clear time to shift
Good day bro
Okay I've been practicing with my chevy impala 2017 v6. I guess the same rule applies since I don't have a clutch right?
Yes of course
I understand when you would go up on manual gear but what I don't understand is when you should select lower gear...
When slowing down is when you should lower the gears but of course have to practice it and react accordingly
Thanks
Wait, it's same way as manual car? If it is I'm good
Do you let go of the gas pedal when you shift or keep ur foot on the pedal?
Keep it. At least for this car you didn’t have to let go of the gas pedal.
@@speedmuscle528 oh ok thank you man
I could keep my foot on the gas while I shift right that’s I want to know
Lol I thought you were supposed to wait till I got to the red line and then you shifted😂😂😂
I mean if you're trying to do a hard pull or race then you'd want to shift at red line to get the maximum horsepower
Im stuck on downshifting 5 to 6 ;-; i want to understand?
My problem is, I don’t know at what speed to downshift. Like if im at 4th gear and im coming to a stop, how do I know at what speed to start downshifting?
Same. Pretty sure you have to memorize when your car downshifts in auto and try and shift at those times. Or something like that
It will do it for you on down shift
Hello thx for the video.
Question HOW DO I GO FROM MANUAL BACK TO AUTOMATIC?
I actually don’t have any desire to go to manual . Just got the car and I accidentally touched the paddle and I’m in manual. Can figure how to go back. Thx 😊
Probably use the stick, put it from D to sport and back into D and it should go back to regular
Why does this not work, when the belt slips, but on the next journey the belt is able once again to make the car go faster than 50km/h and automatically reach the next gear and the manual shifting is working? Chrysler Crossfire? Is this the transmission emergency mode?
Why would you shift with rpm’s so high wouldn’t that be harder on the car and transmission?
As long as your not in the red your good, manuals are made to use the full capacity of the gear, slapshifts allow you to to do the same thing in manual mode
It's not really that hard on the car. Unless you're really redlining it, engines and transmissions actually quite enjoy being used like this.
It's when youre lugging the engine all day that the transmission and engine is working harder to keep the car alive.
His only real downside is that the automatic is probably better at finding economical shifts than him.
Do u need to be in full stop to switch from auto to manual or vice versa
In my car and most that I know u can swap it while driving
Can I damage the car if I don't do it correctly? And when do I shift gears at what rpms for more speed?
you can damage the car if you downshift too early . and when to change gears depends son your car. but it usually is around 2k-3krpm. i think some many cars it would tell you when on the dash
You could potentially damage your car by "money shifting" which is where you drop from a high gear to a low gear very quickly. If you're in 6th and downshift to 2nd, that gear is going to be spinning so fast that it ends up destroying the gear, and that will end up running you a whole new tranny and it's an expensive fix.
However, this is very rare. Good thing is that basically every single automatic with a manual mode has a throttle position sensor within the transmission circuit that determines the qualities of a gear change according to the load on the engine (where it gets the load from how open the throttle body is, and running some calculations). If the computer senses that the engine load is greater than is characteristic of a particular downshift (like there being a much higher engine load than should be allowed for a certain gear), then it will cockblock you from making the shift to protect the transmission.
When you start using the system, sometimes you might downshift at inopportune times, and the engine will make a louder noise, but it's nothing to worry about unless you're redlining it beyond all recognition.
@@laflemme7247 I also use manual to gain speed faster then I switch it back to automatic. Is that ok?
@@darkNovaskar Not sure. On the car I drive, I can switch right from D to M with no issues. It might be different for your car, and I'm not well versed enough on the relevant electromechanics to give you a solid answer.
Take it with a grain of salt and research your car to make a good judgment.
Drive safe!
do you have to take your foot off the gas when you upshift?
No...actually kinda bad for the trans. Literally every transmission I know of shifts while throttle is being used. Not when let off.
Almost every auto is supposed to shift when accelerating...that's why the computer does everything. Letting go the gas pedal will just put more stress on the computer to make an unnecessary shift at the wrong time.
@@odischeese21 Thank you :)
@@odischeese21thank you my good sir :)
I still didn't see how you did it. Do you use the paddle and THEN up shift or what?
You don’t use the paddle at all
You shove the knob to the left and up shift and down shift from there
You can shove it into Manuel mode at any speed and rime
That is also an Automated Manual Transmission...
What is a automatic transmission called when it has manual mode or m mode
It could be called a semi - automatic transmission.
Sequential transmission
How do u drive uphill when it's heavy
I'd just put it in D for that ngl lol
just drop a gear
do i have to release the accelarate or just shifting??
This is my question too that’s why I watched😭
Idk if you saw the comment about it, but you don’t have to let go of the gas! They said it could mess up and put too much stress the computer that automatically shifts due to the transmission.
Must you release the gas while shifting gears??
Not on the automatic.
Thank You this was my question too, Do i need to release the accelarator when shifting,... Mazda 6 V6 2009 and can i stay in manual mode for just one gear one Up or one down or can i go like ...1, 2, 3,4 etc???oups my question is for Speedmuscle 😅

@@liljessivlogs9866 yesss but only downshift at the appropriate speeds
Don’t down shift from 4th to 2nd while slowing down by 10 mph
If you did it wrong the car will slightly jerk
On my v8 it’s kinda like the feeling of going over a small speed bump
@@DeezNuts-tm1bu if you miss a shift or downshift wrong, does it affect the car?
@@billyjones1873 depends on what year your car is but honestly first
Don’t use manual mode if you plan on driving normal
I use manual mode only for driving fast imo
- I start on first gear at a stop and step on it
Redline it to 6k rpm then I shift up and repeat with every gear
There’s no way of “missing a shift because it’ll stay in that gear no matter what but
If you’re driving manual driving normal usually up shift at 3/4 rpm and downshift at 1/2 rpm based on speed
It’s all trial and error just mess around with it
Upshifting early will NEVER damage the car or anything
It’s just downshifting that will force the car to engine stop which cannn feel damaging but it’s pretty hard to mess up
@@DeezNuts-tm1budownshifting jerking is nothing but just engine braking and even if it jerks while downshifting as long as the RPM doesn’t go to red line it’s fine no damage is done

No
I honestly go by sound…. Idk how to do it else way
But can you shift it back to D when its still moving?
yes
Let me get one more Mazda ad.
What speed suitable to change D to M on tiptronic gearbox ? Below 40 mph ?? Or ok above 40 mph ?
I used to switch it when the car was at a stop. Sometimes I accidentally switch it when driving normal and nothing bad happened.
@@speedmuscle528 ohh ok tq sir....
For anyone who wants to listen to the engine exhaust:

Can this work for drop gear and disappear?
If I understand correctly, if you have paddle shifters holding the downshift paddle will automatically downshift into the lowest possible gear and then you can do your hard acceleration. If you have the gear select shifter, holding the selector in the downshift position should downshift into the lowest possible gear and then you're free to go crazy
Your tires need pressure!!
May I ask, that you yankee would know this better than us... automatic planetary gearboxes exist since decades before any development of electronics, how did the automatic shifting was driven at early stages of planetary gearboxes? What used to say to the various clutches to engage or disengage the various parts of the planetary mechanism depending on engine speed?
still don’t understand it i’ve watched so many videos and it’s too hard
Is it normal for the + to be at the bottom and the - to be at the top?
Depends on the car. I prefer the + at the bottom
