  • The Alake of Egba Land, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to declare July 13th, a national day dedicated to celebrating the contributions of Noble Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, to humanity both nationally and globally.
The foremost playwrite who became the first African to win a Nobel Prize in Literature, in 1986, will turn 90 years old on July 13th.
Speaking at a press conference in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, to herald a series of events lined up to mark the 90th birthday of the Nobel Laureate, the Oba urged the Federal Government to also honour Soyinka with the second highest national honour of Grand Commander of Order of Niger.
He described Soyinka as a global icon, a living legend, a playwright, an actor, a human rights and political activist a hunter and a globally respected elder statesman.
The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun has come under heavy criticism online over the deplorable conditions of roads across the state, with some users online asking the governor to declare a state of emergency on roads in the state.
Some viral videos online showed motorists with their broken down vehicles, while others showed pedestrians hanging on to trees almost half swallowed in the heavily flooded roads.
The South East Governors, on Tuesday, hosted former President, Olusegun Obasanjo who paid the governors a solidarity visit, as they made plans to meet with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to press for the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.
The Chairman of the South-East Governors Forum, Hope Uzodimma while addressing the press, said that plans are in top gear to secure the release of the IPOB leader further stating that the governors also resolved during the meeting, to discuss other issues ranging from security, to economy with the President.
A bill seeking to create a new state, called Etiti State in the south-east, passed first reading at the House of Representatives on Tuesday sparking a debate among the Igbo community and political figures online.
According to the proposed legislation, co-sponsored by three lawmakers from the south-east the new state, will have eleven local government areas.
The lawmakers are proposing to alter the 1999 Constitution to create the state from Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo states.
The debate online includes support for other proposed states such as Anioma, Orlu, and Adada, with arguments focusing on the strategic benefits of each proposal, While some advocate for the integration of communities outside the South East, others question the Igbo identity of certain communities within the proposed states.
Senate president, Godswill Akpabio in his latest address, on Tuesday told Nigerians not to worry about the challenges plaguing the country, stating that nobody would recognise Nigeria again by the time President Bola Ahmed Tinubu completes his tenure in office, in another seven years gifting the President a second term.
Akpabio made the comment during the flag-off of a Bus Terminal in Abuja, adding that Nigerians should only pray for the success of the Tinubu’s administration.
Nollywood actor, Patrick Doyle, has reacted to the Best Gospel- Inspirational Song, Awarded to Tems at the BET awards on Monday.
The singer snagged the award with her 2024 release Me & U, defeating top gospel artistes like Kirk Franklin, Cece Winans, and Erica Campbell to win the category.
Patrick Doyle in a post on Facebook urged gospel musicians to not seek validation from the entertainment industry which he labelled as a mafia while claiming it was in the grip of satan.

The point in Nigeria's state creation is that the South East has the least number of states. So, for the sake of equity and fairness, SE need one more to close ranks with other zones and finally expunge the feeling of marginalisation which the Igbos have felt since the war ended. Why not dissolve the state structure and go back to the present six regions or post-Independent four regions? The South East receive the lowest cumulative FAC allocation of all the geopolitical zones. If equity is the basis for Nigeria's Federal Character and existence, then SE needs one more state. There is no justification for the argument about landmass because Lagos is not the biggest in terms of landmass. Also, there is a country in West Africa known as The Gambia. The fact about its landmass and size of population did not stop the colonial masters from giving it the status of an independent nation state.

Welcome back Ojy Okpe, the beautiful and amazing journalist, Kudos to Dr. Abati the very intelligent and calm journalist. We missed our very cute Ayo only unbiased journalist pastor of Arise T. V
Thumbs 👍 up for you guys.
Congrats to professor Wole Soyinka. You will forever be recognized, if you are recognized outside Nigeria why not here in your own country. Black Nigerians with black heart doesn't appreciate or knows the value of what they have, their only achievement is to bring one down and start pointing accusing fingers denying as if they are not the one that did it.
You brought Dele Giwa down, Where is Abiola, Awolowo was brought down, where is Bola I've and the rest from East and North.
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. God bless me and my family.

We should not confuse road fixing with Flooding.
Let us address issues as they are... The Government should address the issue on Flooding which is the issue here and not road fix
    #Road vs Flood

6:38pm Nigeria would have been so battered economically, politically, socially that the hitherto tiny fabric holding us together as a people would have snapped.

It is important to recognize and celebrate writers who choose to write in their native languages, such as D. O. Fágúnwà and others, as they play a vital role in preserving linguistic diversity, cultural heritage, and authentic storytelling. Writing in one's native language allows for a deeper connection to one's roots, traditions, and identity, enabling writers to convey emotions and experiences with nuance and richness that may be lost in translation.
By celebrating writers in their native languages, the diverse voices, perspectives, and traditions that make up the fabric of our society will be honoured. These writers serve as custodians of their languages and cultures, ensuring that traditional knowledge, stories, and values are passed down through generations.
Recognizing and celebrating writers who choose to write in their native languages is a way to showcase the richness and depth of linguistic diversity and cultural heritage. Their contributions to literature are invaluable and deserving of appreciation, encouragement, and amplification in order to uphold the importance of indigenous languages and storytelling in our global literary community.
