Wow…. Spoiled it.

Its Gonna suck when we all gotta hit the trenches one more time. Im calling it now fellas. The post ww3 show finna be wild just hope Nick doesn't defect to China

Nick is the bottom for sure...
they already share the same strain of herpes why not?
And my hole
That's how you get the mouth herp.
The mic picking up Adam's mouth breathing while Nick ranted about The Mandalorian and cocaine was very funny. Good one Adam.
I laughed too hard hearing the manscaped newspaper idk why it was so funny
I think he's vaping
that little whistle…
i’m listening while driving & everytime i rewind just to make sure my car isn’t making noises
It is a nasal whistle. A rare feature of this type of pokemon.
i literally had to stop breathing cause i thought it was me making all that noise. then i came here to confirm i wasnt the only one hearing it lmao
As a miserable depressed antisocial nihilistic asexual male I think nick is a real ray of sunshine
I've been having a lot of problems mentally lately. Like no joke. This somehow made me feel slightly better by comparison. My life sucks compared to Nick's, but me somehow finding things to be at least occasionally happy about and usually being able to escape my existential dread is nothing short of a miracle.

They finally got the mic levels PERFECT, keep it exactly like this with the sounds of adam's breathing drowning out Nick at his loudest
At least I can laugh at this while they talk about how cognition is finite. Literally. JFC.
They were awful. All I hear was Adam's breathy mumbling. Mucous breath.

"Not everything’s a mental health thing, everything’s branded as trauma nowadays” -he says to his friend who is clearly struggling with the quickly approaching anniversary of his mom's death and whose dog ran away, with a look that can only be described as a man who just witnessed an infant being vaporized by a tomahawk missile.
the secret to adam friedland's charisma is how, when he talks to someone, he makes you want to strangle him.
A real test in civility
We call that “second-person charisma”.

The funniest part of this episode is that these idiots riffing with their friend a few months ago is causing swaths of people to melt down on Twitter and in tabloid media right now, and they have the dumbest conversations about cameras and existential dread without ever addressing or mentioning it.
Their funny strategy to keep up interest with roughly 20% content 80% just balls to walls autistic rambling is infuriating just about in the same proportion, and especially this episode which shares it's name with the most legendary tafs episode yet...

Holy fuck. Sounds normal
This is such a good episode. Nick is really representing the modern nihilistic position, and Adam is taking the non-nihilistic view. This episode is seriously a perfect philosophical dialogue.
Nick's point that to really love doing something for its own sake you lose yourself in it (enter into a flow state) is pretty insightful. But can you do that without tricking yourself into ignoring reality? Nick can only arrive at that through nihilism basically.
Doing something for it’s own sake is truly the epitome of happiness. I wish I knew that when I was younger

It's this rawness that's always been attractive about them. The later half is great broadcasting.
Except for Adam
I relate a lot to nick, I find myself mercilessly analyzing my own life. Usually I am tired or in a bad mood and I have dealt with bad relationships in the past so this affects my mind and so I think negative things about myself. At the end of the day Nick, it’s about turning off that annoying analysis voice in your head without needing drugs and turning it back on when you need it. Just gotta slow down and be.
I also think as a middle aged man, not having kids or a long term relationship comes with a lot of biologically driven psychological weight. People tend to be happier when they live in accordance with what our genes want. I am single by choice and simply remember feeling lighter and better when in a relationship despite moving down a path toward allowing an unstable and financially worse off person to have an inordinate amount of control over my life.
@@teklife2151 I relate a lot as a closeted homosexual

@@ayobmedz yeah true I was feeling gay at the time of writing.

I'm pretty sure the reason Nick is bummed is that Barry ended.
i hope so. what a fun ending though!
Nick explaining all the different Davids and Goliaths reminds me of how he distinguishes and explains all of the different TAFS properties
Nick idk if you’ll see this but I’m copy and pasting this from patreon. I think you don’t give yourself credit for how smart you really are. If you were really a dumb guy you wouldn’t even be thinking about the possibility of watching the Mandilorian without the implications of death lurking behind you. I think both you and Adam were right about different things, about giving and receiving love being the only way and about some people being able to do so without having to think about doing it. I think growing up nowadays has overexposed us to the sadness in life to a degree that older generations didn’t have to deal with. But I’m glad working on the show has given you something to be proud of, you do deserve it
what a strange thing to be afraid of death while not enjoying life
Nick seems defensive about trauma.
Nick's take is correct
The cum eating or existential dread?
Trauma is gay.
I disagree. You seem defensive about his 100% accurate take on trauma culture.
just because nick doesn't approve of the method for spreading awareness of people's trauma doesn't mean he disapproves of the general idea, this is a somewhat black and white take on his comments that i hope is mostly for comedic effect and not for attempting to feel smart/interesting by lazily retorting with a wide reaching/not provable assumption
Love the dark alliance getting into discussions of meaning and being
who else must make a faustian bargain just to glance at baby yoda
goated comment tbh
Nick's comment about the Mandalorian is really wonderful. Using his lack of joy to orient himself around the understanding that if he was working the way he knows he wants to internally, he'd enjoy The Mandalorian, is a really intuitive understanding that he's operating with a (probably very worldly) cynicism that he knows is counter to a natural joy that he knows he could feel, and that if he felt that joy, he'd understand how to enjoy The Mandalorian. And then, after that, if he wanted to, he could shit on it too, for laughs, but the understanding of the cynicism that allows for that would then just be an understanding, instead of inherent to his worldview, and therefore generating depression.
It sucked to hear Adam not really getting where his friend was coming from while also telling him about the importance of appreciating friends haha. Doubly so when Nick starts talking about eternity having no end while life does, and talking about the profound beauty of infinity, and Adam is like "whatever, trying to comprehend that is what makes you unhappy." Like come on bro.

Adam had a surprisingly shallow understanding of nick here, it kinda threw me off. I could relate to a lot of what Nick was saying and it was pretty beautifully articulated tbh
You know its a good episode when you're left sweaty and exhausted afterwards, like a
I've never heard such a heated but muted philosophical exchange of murmuring back and forth unlike that of these two worm boys 🪱
I appreciate the That Sodding Gamer katana unboxing references in the last couple of episodes.
I know it’s kinda silly and jokey but there is some real profoundness in the mandalorian exchange. I feel like Nick is kinda tapping into a certain alienation that’s kind of common with many people. Also I’m gay etc
No doubt. I wish I were a rich dullard who could enjoy dumb shit like that instead of semi intelligent and broke.

Audio is crap. Adam's voice is coming thru like 5x louder than Nick.

There's something so funny to be about Adam being right on the money with Maddison being 5 foot 4
I appreciate this, because I'm also a narcissist who struggles with addiction. What we want from our interlocutor is a fight. Simple affirmation and friendship is for dumb guys. Instead, Nick wants to keep moving the goalposts with some convoluted philosophy. "If only" I could watch Mandalorian and enjoy it, but at the same time retain my core identity: that of a smart, clear-eyed and worldly person, without illusions, the kind of person who exited the cave and understands there is no meaning, there is no sublime, and God's dead. This "if only" is obviously an impossible task set up for failure. It has an internal logic, and it's "not wrong", but let's remember that it's a kind of synthetic Trolley Problem with no satisfactory resolution. And when you fail, it feels like a great excuse to start drinking.

this is a genuine work of art. im not even being facetious this was a life changing conversation to listen to
i'm amazed finding positive comments amongst so, so many negative ones. i wonder what makes the difference between the 98% and the 2
@@treyshawnbeats im not sure, but this is the only episode of any podcast that i've listened to start to finish. i'm not even a huge cum town or tafs fan but there is something so powerful about hearing two very close friends want the best for one another while disagreeing so extremely about how to get that. their perspectives and attitudes are dead opposite yet neither of them are wrong (and it helps that they are both so naturally funny in conversation)
No matter how long they've been doing this, no matter how much money they spend, no matter how many staff they hire, Nick's levels are STILL too low. Amazing.

This is like listening to gay Kant arguing with gay Camus. Awesome.

Actually loved hearing Nick trying to articulate something pretty tough to understand, and seeing the hope in him about it. It’s a hard task, asking someone about such things who’s in a slight y.o.l.o. frame of mind. But it was really the perfect set of counterparts.

Happiness is a condition. You shouldn't have "being happy" as a goal for yourself. You are either happy or you're not. Especially with some cases of depression, which can be mostly motivated by chemical factors. You might find happiness through dropping the concern for happiness
Happiness is never having to stop and think about how shitty your life is

Adam just completely misunderstanding Nick at every turn is rough
The David and Goliath thing was so simple and his xanned out mind couldn't follow it all
Lol it was honestly infuriating. I totally understand what Nick is trying to convey in the final 30 minutes of the show about just enjoying things in life but adam is not listening at all. Then he tells Nick he’s being obtuse.
Made it a tough listen
but nicks anger at Adam's self care remark about the pretzel bites set the stage for all of the facetious misunderstanding. don't put it all on adam😕
not only not understanding him- but assuming he does understand, not listening, and confidently interrupting with conclusions/solutions that have nothing to do with the conversation
Adam vaping into the mic was the best bit this ep.
Loved the philosophical debate bois. Nick's existential dread of starting a TV show is something I think many can relate haha I am pretty sure it was Nietzsche who said "If you gaze long enough into the abyss, the Mandalorian gazes back into you"
Nick really has nothing behind those face beans, all I see is darkness my lord
The last 30 minutes of this episode is just 2 guys trying to do Nietzsche
I wish they had talked about flat earthers more. My mom has climbed amazingly high up the tree of bullshit, and it would have been great to get some logical ammunition to help shoot her down from there, but just saying she doesn't exist would be more or less the same level of logic as she's already operating on relative to the world.
All you have to say is. If we can travel anywhere on earth, with exact accuracy and measured distances , why is their no non distorted flat earth map
There's a bunch more of impossibility like sunsets and star trails, but seeing that it's impossible to map out a flat earth, should be easy to understand
I totally understand what you mean, enjoying things no strings attached. No need for it to be something stemming in a philosophical lifestyle view or what ever. Its hard and sometimes I think we are just conditioned to be critical and only able to enjoy things if they are either cricitally vetted or universally agreed on being enjoyable. It feels so bad when so little can give joy. I believe that we lose this ability to enjoy things more naturally drastically fast as we age, something we just have to remind ourselves to come back to. Enjoy episode I starwars, theres a cool race and light sabres, no need to spaz out over how bad it is. Enjoy The mandalorian. its a pretty cool show! Also it just feels better in your brain and stomach to be able to enjoy things for what they are rather than not enjoy things for all that is lacking. Maybe the same way it sucks to just read bad news articles all day rather than good news articles, and its so rare to read good stuff, we are being conditioned to just hate on shit... I enjoy your show! Keep it up.
Was this just therapy for Nick? I loved it to be clear. But yeah, pretty sure Adam is right for the most part. It's not that we're coping with death by caring for our loved ones, it's that if we have a finite time on earth, we might as well spend it wisely, and the most meaningful thing you can do in life is spend time with the people you love. It's all about relationships. Everything else is just hobbies.
Fun episode, would definitely enjoy more like it. Very philosophical.
Exceptionally Straight.
@@yee446 perhaps he is just gayer than you. it's ok, good even, to enjoy things, be genuine, insightful and loving. it just feels embarrassing and no one likes that feeling. i believe you can get there too big dawg
nick's point wasn't that being a loving person is a response to fearing death, adam misread that because he probably got a tad pissed thinking nick was trying to act tough by saying he doesnt love things because he doesnt fear death. his past nihilism has made it hard for adam not to see that in his ramblings which then translates to the audience. nicks point was that not caring to find the meaningfulness or thinking about if you're spending time wisely while doing any random thing (like watching the mandalorian) and just enjoying it is ironically meaningful and equally important to legitimately meaningful things like having close ones to love. its actually pretty wholesome but adam made it sound like he was saying loving people is pointless or something like that
Nick and Adam out here looking like Walter Becker and Donald Fagen of Steely Dan
hell yeah major dude
I think I cracked the case, boys. "The Mandalorian" is shit and not enjoying doesn't mean there is something wrong with you. Being happy with slop is not a good measure of mental health and we search for joy, meaning, and the rest, elsewhere.
Nick would make a great case study on the concept of being heaven banned
