Teslacam Stories is a series of Tesla owners' real experiences told by the Tesla Dashcam and Sentry Mode videos. All incidents are recorded from Tesla vehicles and submitted to this channel by other Tesla enthusiasts. I contact each person who sends me their videos to talk with them and learn more about their story and to follow up on what happened after what we see on their video. Voice-over and captions are added to describe what happened, and why. I believe that this additional information regarding the incident gives the videos a newsworthy value.
From the footage and additional information, a viewer can learn the consequences of bad driving and can educate his/her self with better driving safety. This process also gives the videos a great educational value. It is my desire to add my own unique and creative value in a transformative way to ensure you enjoy and learn from the videos being presented.

This reminds me of something I saw near Wash, DC on I-270. There were 3 lanes with the far left lane being HOV. I saw a guy cut 2 lanes to the right. I guess he thought the cop couldn't get him if he was in the far right lane. SURPRISE! The cop stopped traffic and pulled the guy over anyway. And probably cited him for unsafe lane change. That put me in such a good mood for the rest of my drive home.

That’s why I love Chicago and their express lanes. You’re divided by a barrier so no assholes can cut across a solid line
We have that here too but we have the busiest highway in North America. With Collectors and Express lanes, we have between 8 and 14 lanes in each direction and it's still bumper to bumper from about 5 am till around midnight, 6 days a week and Sunday isn't much better.
In Chicago the express lanes are usually stopped just like the other lanes

@@Flury94 HOV lane is just a lane on the highway that only people with 1 or more passengers can use. But this only applies during certain times during weekdays (it’s weekdays in Florida, other states might also include weekends)

In California I got a $950 ticket for exiting double solid hov lanes and I was also alone at the time with a Chp right behind me so I got cought instantly

Car pool lanes aren't efficient. All lanes should be open for all traffic. If you buy gas your taxes pay for all the roads except private roads. So we paid to use all lanes.
Where I live in Northern California about half of the cars in the HOV lane are illegal.
In Texas we’re not the smartest drivers. About 90% in the HOV don’t belong there so anyone with 2+ in the car gets to sit in the same traffic as everyone else.
Haha go to Staten Island Expressway in NYC and you'll see this number is up to 90% during rush hours.

In Florida, the fine is around $400 but you’re able to hop in and out of it because it’s considered a passing lane as well
People definitely abuse it regardless, but if the lane is empty and the others are all congested, it makes sense to use every lane available to ease congestion.

In South Florida, all HOV lanes have been converted to express lanes. HOV vehicles must be registered and must have 3 or more registered people in order to used... or, if you have a hybrid or an EV, you can register it and you can use it for free as well without any passengers.
Motorcyclists also get to use the HOV lane, even without a passenger.
Why can a electric car use it but not regular cars?

That means there are multiple people in the car. 3 people in 1 car means you are taking 2 other cars off the road reducing the emissions from the other cars that would have been on the road. It’s a perk for carpooling. An EV or plug-in have reduced or zero emissions, so driving an EV is like taking another cars emissions off the road

It's a lane for cars with two or more people inside, motorcycles, alternative fuel vehicles like electric cars etc. It was designed to encourage more people to carpool. There's usually less or no traffic in HOV lanes.

It’s simple, the rules are only enforced for people who can afford to pay fines such as people driving to work. Law enforcement in Washington run like a business, and public safety seems to be very much a secondary less important goal. My wife got pulled over and fined for going 67 in a 60 on the freeway and issued a citation which caused our insurance to be $800 a year higher. Ah, life in the big city..
It's because traffic cops aren't looking for drugs or shoplifters. They are there to enforce traffic laws. It would be like expecting a homicide detective to investigate a lawn ornament theft.

I’m originally from Erie, Pa. When I joined the military, I was stationed in Va Beach, Va. for about a year I never drove on the hov lane because I didn’t know what the lane was for.
I’ve seen these kind of drivers all the time in California.

On my first road trip in the US I did not know what an HOV lane was as we didn't have them in our Canadian province. I drove a lot in HOV lanes, before questioning to myself what the diamonds mean, and I eventually guessed that it meant carpool lane.🙂
They need to put better instructions and signage on HOV lanes for out of state driver's who have never seen them before.

And how is someone from Montana, Wyoming or the Dakotas etc. supposed to know the meaning of a painted diamond shape on the road unless there is an accompanying sign that says 2+ or 3+ etc...?
And different HOV lanes could have different rules, depending on city or state.
While the signs on most interstates are pretty constant/consistant, traffic laws and signs do vary from state to state, or province to province on local roads.
For example, how many North Americans know the rules about stopping beside stopped streetcars in Toronto?
If you want people to follow laws, you have to make them easy for people to follow.
Otherwise you are giving your corrupt police forces excuses to harass and extort money from innocent tourists.
There are several large signs on both sides of the road including mentioning the fine. Open your eyes and be aware. Ignorance is no excuse and if you try to use it as a reason, you'll make it worse.
I live in this part of Washington and there are signs every few miles explicitly stating how the HOV lane works. Some even list the monetary penalty for being caught in one.
A diamond marking is known in both the U.S. and Canada as a restricted lane.

In CA in the LA/OC area, such a violation counts as a misdemeanor and will come up with an employer when they do background checks upon applying for the job. The record will drop off your background after 7 years from the day of violation. I can testify to that

@Dave Depilot they can pull you over for nearly anything. If you touch a painted line they can cite you for failure to signal/maintain lane, obstructing traffic if you drive too slow (at their discretion), too fast for conditions (at their discretion), if your music is too loud (at their discretion), exhibition of speed if you rev your motor too high (again at their discretion). See a recurring theme? If you reach into your glove box too fast, they can kill you and get paid vacation while they investigate themselves. Road pirates is probably a better term.
