  • Tesla Model S Plaid owner tries to escape a road raging truck and ends up totaling his $150 000 USD Tesla. This and 20 unseen Tesla Stories from 2022 featuring bad drivers, idiots in cars, crashes, hit and runs and much more in Episode 117 of Teslacam Stories.
Teslacam Stories is a series of Tesla owners real experiences told by the Tesla Dashcam and Sentry Mode videos. All incidents are recorded from Tesla vehicles and submitted to this channel by other Tesla enthusiast. I contact each person who send me their videos to talk with them and learn more about their story and to follow up what happened after what we see on their video. Voice over and captions are added to describe what happened, and why. I believe that this additional information regarding the incident gives the videos a newsworthy value.
From the footage and additional information, a viewer can learn the consequences of bad driving and can educate his/her self with better driving safety. This process also gives the videos a great educational value. It is my desire to add my own unique and creative value in a transformative way to ensure you enjoy and learn from the videos being presented.

DeShawn was totally at fault. He should've slowed down to let the truck pass and get ahead of him. And veering across 3 lanes of traffic to take an exit without looking for other cars (as he admitted) and incredibly irresponsible.

Well, if that truck was pointing a gun towards the Tesla, that would’ve been the only way to avoid him. Me personally, I would’ve tried and accelerated the heck out of there, and put my driving skills to full use. But if there was a lot of traffic, you have a 95% chance of getting into an accident.

normally I would agree and a bit more planning could have helped avoid an accident but knowing there was a shooting there not long ago and having a truck driving aggressively against you then pulling out and unknown object pointing it towards you tends to make people panic and make mistakes.
I would probably either have slammed on the breaks, floored it or swerved same is Deshawn and the odds are high that it would have caused an accident.
at least Deshawn took on fault for the accident unlike some people who would try to blame the other driver or make excuses.

When you deal with road rage, my suggestion is to slow down and let them go (generally, each scenario is unique). We all know that people treat the road as race track, with positions and points, so accelerating in front makes them feel that they losing/falling behind/beaten and make them more aggressive. Put on some Whitney Houston or Yanni or Disney Frozen and "let it go".

very true. as soon as I see someone driving like a jerk, wether he's aggressive, drives like he's drunk or falling asleep, my first reflex is to put some distance. 99% of the time it doesn't involve trying to pass/outrun them. especially on a busy highway. very poor decisions that he paid deeply. still hope he could use the dashcam to prove that the truck driver had some responsibility. but cutting across 4 lanes of busy highway doesn't sound like good idea. if someone wants to shoot you, you are probably safer behind him than that in front or next to him.

  • @roadmonitoroz
    @roadmonitoroz Před 2 lety +217

1st clip Deshawn: There is this pedal on the left called a brake pedal. If someone is blocking you on the freeway, gently depress the pedal. This will make your vehicle slow down. Slow down to get a a sufficient distance and most of the time you'll find the other driver will lose interest and keep on going. I've used this method a few times and it worked every single time (whether instantly or after a while). It is also useful on those who speed up and hover block when you put your indicator on to change lanes.
By wanting to be first and trying to keep on passing him you are prolonging the incident . In your case you ended up crashing into an innocent person. Take a look for that brake pedal when you get your new car.
Clips 6 & 7 is pretty normal for parking lots. This is why I purchased a car with dents. I don't care if people crash their cart into my car (as long as its not intentional ramming of course)

Good plan. SOMETHING is going to blemish your paint. It's just not worth worrying about. Buy something used with some marks on it and save a ton of money. Nobody else cares about your new car after the first few months so worrying about how nice it always looks I think is pointless.

Good advice about slowing down. But the car is a Telsa which means it has one pedal driving mode. He could bring the car to a complete stop without ever touching the brake pedal. This ability to stop without using the brakes is why brake pads last a long time in EVs with one pedal driving.

I'd be happier with an accident then being shot at, panic can take over real quick and cause mistakes to happen and Deshawn only really had 4 options all of which sucked.
1, stay driving and hope it's not a gun being pulled. 2, break hoping not to be rear ended or having the truck driver slow down or even break check him. 3, pull ahead and hope he can stay in control and avoid cars while hoping the truck driver doesn't keep up or chase him down. 4, swerve trying to take a late exit or get behind other cars.
he did cause an accident but he owned up to it and he was in a horrible situation where most people would do something stupid.
I just hope that the video eventually made it to the police and the truck driver got sighted for reckless driving or more.

Pertaining to the opening story, what's a sure-fire strategy to escalate the road rage? That's right, pass the road rager thereby triggering them even more (no pun intended). Road ragers by their nature are in a big hurry. You want them to go away, just get over into the far right lane and go really slow. They will want nothing to do with you and merrily head off to their next idiotic confrontation. And yet, over and over again, I see people in Teslas using the power and torque to zip past the road rager, only to have them catch up soon enough and continue the raging (but now, they're really pissed).

Personally, I find just driving slower to not be all that effective. It just makes it easy for them to get out in front and smash on the breaks or swing at me while almost getting rearended by traffic. The best outcomes I've experience is strategically placing myself in traffic so they can't get to me easily while I make for a junction/off-ramp or wait on them to brake hard to then zip around and fully commit until I can get to a junction or off ramp. I actually think Deshawn didn't utilize his cars power at all really. All he did was go around and then dootal in the lane like nothing was happing when he had a clear shot for the exit at the start if he had just punched it.

Yeah, I saw my fair share of road rage, and people don't "usually" randomly freak out at someone. I saw lane hoggers get bottles and trash thrown at them, and get the brake check after a pass a few times. And of course, the middle finger.
But who knows... Dangerous move anyways, swerving across the entire highway like that in a vehicle as heavy as that truck.
Edit: I do think Tesla's get a bit of extra road rage because people feel their tax money is going towards buying someone a "luxury car" or an "expensive toy". But it still is usually just a middle finger, or a brake check to make the car slow itself down...
Personally, I like to blend in, Tesla's get too much attention for me, I don't want people taking pictures of my car, or assuming who I am. Wether I drive my truck or my civic, no one gives a s either way.

It made me wonder if a Tesla could last long enough to become a family heirloom. Back in the day with analog vehicles something like this might be lovingly cared for and passed down through generations. It was able to be independently serviced and maintained no matter what happened to the manufacturer years or decades after purchase and could theoretically exist in a fully functional state forever, even if that means fabricating out of production parts. Making a replacement mechanical part is feasible, but getting around all the code and dependency on being connected seems to make it a lot less likely that his grandkids would be able to drive this vehicle in a half century from now the same way many families have heirloom vehicles, some over 100 years old that are still able to be appreciated and enjoyed.
It kind of brings a tear to my eye in a different way, a disposable plastic culture of today probably means that most modern vehicles won't continue being the physical connections to the past that classic and antique heirlooms are today.

I don't doubt all the physical parts can survive, the big unknown is when Tesla decides your vehicle is 'too old'.
This was never a problem but since a Tesla is so dependent on cloud and centralized digital services i could easily see them discontinuing support for older vehicles. Tesla wants to eliminate private vehicle ownership entirely, do you think they won't brick your car and tell you 'too bad" in 20 years?
That's the biggest problem i see and why i'll never fall for these scams. You don't actually own it if you don't have access to service and repair and have to ask a corporation 'pretty please' to use your own property. I once had a road rager in a truck running from me. He slammed on his break in front of me and so I gave him the finger and as you’d expect his delicate ego was destroyed and he started following my car and then scraped the side of my front passenger side.
He tried to escape using the nearest exit but he wasn’t able to elude me. The dynamics changed. He had committed 2 crimes against me and now had become “the hunted”.
I chased this guy. Suddenly, this fake tough guy was running away from me like someone running from their kidnapper.🤔🥴
Ultimately, I let him go b/c it would endanger other drivers. I’m sure he got the fright of his life when a detective from our local police dept tracked him down A WEEK LATER.💀💀💀😱
He thought it was all over and that he’d escaped me but it turned out that the car wasn’t even his. The truck belonged to his girlfriend’s brother’s cousin or something like that.
I wonder what lie he told the truck owner and I can only imagine what it was like for the truck owner to have to prove he wasn’t the one driving that day.

Not only that her behaviour handling the cart is suspicious as she turns the cart 180 degrees and points it at the Tesla.
