The type of Calorie would be kilocalories which is the energy needed to heat one kilogram of water by a degree Celsius not a gram.
I think it has to with American units vs international units similar to metric/Celsius vs imperial/Fahrenheit measurements. One calorie on American (and Canadian) packages in the US is equal to what we would call one kilocalories in the rest of the world. This is only for food and exercise products, while when it comes to science, everyone uses international units.
What is a calorie?
