    We are going through Monsoon style weather here in Australia ATM you can barely do anything without being wet or cold so I'm keen to try this out with the heater on, the Scottish tatties aswell 😎🤤

    That's so mouth watering, and a great twist on shepherds pie. I love haggis and I'll certainly be giving this a go, thank you so much 👍

    It amazes me how close your recipes are to Appalachian recipes from where I grew up in southwestern Virginia. You cook like my granny. Lots of butter. Leave in all the fats. Just like home.

    If you add peppers to it's a continental shepherd's pie.
    If you add chillies to it's a Mexican pet shepherd's pie.
    If you add curry to it it's an Indian shepherd's pie.

    I usually add water and make a heavy gravy to bind it all together. I also love HP sauce so I usually add about 1 1/2 tables spoons to it. I also prefer adding corn vs carrots. Also I always make lines in the mash top with a fork and then I pop it in the oven on grill and let the top of the mash go crispy.

    Looks very nice, although I never had haggis. I would have some veg or chips with it.

    I like handing some spring onion into the mash to give a bit of crunch and flavour into the mash and spread egg yolk over the mash like you would do with pastry you get a lovely golden brown top. Love your recipe though

    😂 Thanks for responding. I need to have my very expensive
    Scrapple sent from Pennsylvania Amish country. I'm in Massachusetts.
    Just discovered your site and subscribed. Like what recipes I've seen so far.
    I'm 84 , cooking for one. So I favor plain easy dishes.
    Incidentally, I slice my Scrapple in about 1/2 inch slices and fry it .
    Crust it on each side, drizzle a little maple syrup on it for breakfast.
    Good luck with the site.

    Another fabulous video. Pretty sure, though, I can’t get haggis in my town. Wondering whether I could use anything else…

    South of the border we would call that a swede.

    Could miss out the oven part , and just plate it up with the mash and maybe a green veg . Thank you for some great ideas .

    We don't have hagus in the US. It's forbidden to be imported. Is there a substitution? What does it taste like?

    • @singledadscookbook

      It tastes beautiful, I have been told (so not tried first hand) Amish Scrapple could be a similar item. Like I said though this is third hand info so many not be correct.

  • @kevinronald4137

    Turnip is actually a swede.

    Do you know if your Haggis is the same as Amish Scrapple?

  • @richarddaly800
    @richarddaly800 Před 2 lety +1

    Scrapple is delicious but it's best not to read the ingredients.
    It's primarily pork parts boiled down and allowed to jell.
    I that similar to haggis ingredients?

    • @singledadscookbook
      @singledadscookbook  Před 2 lety

      Yes - And yes Haggis is delicious but as Scrapple dont read the ingredients

    Cannot see how you prepare the carrots because your hand is infront of your camera

    It's not a turnip, it's a swede... turnips are completely different!
