Nice motor! I got mine from my grandfather. I think mine was a 52. But the same motor. Mine looks very used. The only thing we had to fix was the impelleor. I used it on a 12ft aluminium boat for years when I was a kid. The prop is a bit beat up. I can start mine right now, even if it’s been in storage for 15 years. Come on man, treat it nice. Rev her up to actual usage. Nice motor. I’ve got one of there’s with a cracked lower unit, fixed with bathtub caulk. Still starts and runs. I’d put it on a boat today and run her right up If it spits it’s good
OUTBOARDMOTORMAN i have this same engine and it needs an impeller but I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to change it.. any info on how to do it? I went to 3 different marine repair shops and nobody knows where the impeller is located.. thank you in advance!
I have one like that nice little motor the problem I am having is with pull start it had steel wire/cable it was all messed up I try nylon rope and it broke so now I am trying to find wire cable would there be a website that would have it?...I tried old merc nothing there any help be great thanks..
I know this video is 11 years old, but I have a 1954 Mark 5 that won’t go into neutral. I pulled the lower unit, and while in there replaced the impeller, but found that the neutral actuator was broken. Anyone have an idea where I can get a new actuator “plate” (for lack of a better term)? If not, I’ll continue to use it without neutral as I have been.
I have a mark 5 that has been passed down by my grandpa and I'm trying to get it running. My grandpa was smart and drained all fuel prior to storage. I have replaced fuel lines cleaned fuel filter also cleaned the carb and replaced spark plugs. It cranks and gets spark but I'm not getting fuel to the spark plugs and every time I give it a pull fuel comes out of the front of the carb where the brass choke plate is. Please help, my grandpa would love to see this run.
I have one I just got. I'm going to restore it. So, It is a 2 STROKE?? yes, we need to know the best fuel mixture. That video is a great resource for me. I love it.
Love the old Mercs. Thank you
Fantastic restoration and a great show case to demonstrate that newer is not always better. You've got that thing running like a Swiss watch!
That I'd a beauty. I just bought at auction a 51 5hp. Very nice tunner, but needs water pump. Winter project. Thanks for the video.
awesome motor!
it does look brand new!!!!

Take your rig to Canada. That's where the best fishing is.
Yes i painted it and 4 coats of clear.
Thanks for watching
Are you going to sell it? if so, how much could you get for it? I'm planning on selling mine when I finish restoring it.
Changing the water pump on this outboard is a little tricky, with the nuetral cable.
Thanks for watching

I was wondering what are the ideal adjustment for low and high
Did you find an answer to this question? I just bought a Mark 5. I am trying to to keep it running. It fires but won't keep running.
Beautiful. How can you tell what year model? I just got one Mark 5 and not sure the year model.

just came across one, very informative video. thank you for posting it. i was wondering can i burn regular gas in it, or does it need oil?
You are joking right, lol.
My dad always ran old mercury’s at 50:1 gas:oil
that looks brand-spanking new,...are you sure its for `55?
I have the same motor, what fuel mixture works the best for you?? thanks!!

50:1. Gas 50 oil 1. Basically 5 gallons to 1 pint oil.
Mike Galloway yes it’s a 2 stroke. It’s not a Toyota.
