In the ALGS Regional Qualifiers, players within Apex Legends, including Genburten and Imperial Hal, have been HACKED mid-game to try and grief the tournament.
Season 20 of Apex Legends has had a bunch of cheaters and hackers, but the ALGS hacking is a whole different level.
Genburten, a Pro Player for Dark Zero, was hacked with aimbot and the ability to see where every enemy was plus their health.
Destroyer2009 was the hacker, who previously hacked Imperial Hal's lobby within Apex Legends.

@@slimetunersis5373 EAC being in a game is proof it can be hacked. A game's DRM requiring kernel access is proof that it allows RCE. RCE is still possible in elden ring because RCE permissions are required for EAC to run.
That's the most disappointing thing about this video... it closes with ~"hopefully this makes EA improve their anti-cheat!" but like no... relying on anti-cheat when you should be creating an appropriate client-server architecture is the problem. Tons of the biggest multiplayer games out there have never been hacked, can't be hacked with client side manipulation, and don't allow RCE. Why enable RCE on my machine when developers could just not have the server send me info on all the players in a game? Cheaper.

Funny thing is, Respawn has pretty much free reign over monetization with only minimal input from EA. This is according to Pros and Org officials from C9 for instance.

They have to restart the entire tourney for the day. Who knows what else was compromised. LAN needs to 100% be an offline tourney moving forward

The issue isn't that the series is online, it's the kernel level anti-cheat that needs to be removed. There isn't a single esport out there that is commercially viable as a offline only series.

Live bad actor injection of malicious code. There's probably no good fix given the age of source engine. I hate to speculate, but this sort of thing would probably be easier to do if you were a participant of the event...

This isn't going to affect random players, this was such a beyond targeted thing where the hacker was going after only Hal and Gen. They have no reason to do it to some random person and because of Hal and Gen not having stuff injected into their PCs and it being client side means it won't affect people. This was a targeted thing to either 1. make the hackers favourite streamers win, or 2. to expose how shit apex anti cheat is, my guess is it's the previous.

I won't touch Apex until this is solved and announced as fixed. Exploits like this is serious, could potentially be a way for someone to gain complete access to someone's computer.

@@DC-GAMER-202 It's very unlikely that it affects console, and if it was, the consequences wouldn't be as severe. Consoles are so locked down I wouldn't worry about it.
@@gregsmith8977 at most lagging switches, force disconnections or crashing the game. its targeting pc's to run and inject malicious code. consoles would only deal with aforementioned attack types.

safest guess is one of the devs or more got salty for being laid off after doing 0 at work. so they gave some loopholes. not even joking. its perfect timing, 20 seasons in and not once did it happend. massive lay offs at respawn/activios dev side for apex last week or the week before. now this, makes one think.

Fortnite is constantly changing to match their anti cheat because they’ve suffered the hacking problem already. Fortnite tree knows how dangerous hackers are and have put a stop to them for the most part. Apex(more specifically ea) are cheap assholes who care about lining their pockets. They don’t have the best engine, tick rate etc. They can’t match their anti cheat. Thats why hacking is so easy on apex.

This is nothing new. 2 years ago my account was hijacked. My octane won several matches and got some badges like wrath IV while im AFK in the game lobby. I quickly appealed to the customer support, changed password and luckily no ban until now although i rarely playing this game nowadays🤷

It's still unknown whether this is the first time Destroyer2009 implement any cheats on the players of ALGS, and if not, when is the first time? Potentially the competitive integrity of every ALGS tournament that took place before had been compromised at this point, I would not be surprised if sponsor of ALGS all leave the scene soon.
I wouldn't be suprised that the hackers know someone or they are in the Apex dev team for something like this. Props to the hackers since they managed to compromise an esports tournament held by a multi billion dollar game publisher.

Obviously they got backdoor embedded. Cheat ain't no stupid. They definitely need some way around to access their product if the user unwilling to pay. The cheat seller just need to access the backdoor and unveil the phantom overlay setting

Smh i start to consider stopping with apex since i played at launch.. i love the engine mechanics of the game but the fact they overprice cosmetics for 700$ rn with these cheaters/hackers around aswell yeah gives me a reason to stop because its not fun to play at this point.

The reason for this is that Apex leagends is because during LAN events they cheaply just host it on EA servers and not using a local private LAN

Lowkey crazy how there hasn't been a more detailed explanation of how or what to do about the situation. I'm sure I'm not the only one but we have to rely on videos like this and others on TikTok telling us about not opening EA games and what exactly happened while the broadcast just went silent.

Basically no one would risk getting disqualified from a 3 million dollar prize pool tournament just for cheats, especially since the two people who had cheats have won LAN before. The hacker known as “TTV destroyer” likely found a exploit inside the source engine which is extremely old for Apex legends and used the code injection to somehow exploit any users PC and further control their software.
Man I love the game...but this is just too much....if EA wanst just money grab this game would be insane

Tournaments and regular matches are being ruined. There's more cheaters than non cheaters it's plagued the game. But maybe now it affected the tournaments they might actually do something about it.

A disgusting fact : Apex legends engine is a 15 years old source engine that's why This game has audio issues, bugs, lags and cheating issues. Time to upgrade the game to source engine 2, with better anti cheat , better servers etc and launch the game as Apex legends 2 .
To execute an RCE the user must have had some kind of malware installed in the first place OR the hacker must have access to the data center. So either the player was cheating and had his cheat activated via RCE or the hacker has inside access to the server infrastructure of the game itself. there is no other way. Apex Legends is so contaminated with cheaters since it's easy to hack that imo they had the cheat installed in the first place and just reacted quickly on being exposed.

An rce as its name says executes code remotely. U can simply inject a .dll into their game same as a cheater would do it but they get it without knowing which is kinda funny.

Yeah most likely since the hacker could have used a memory injection vulnerability which allows them to completely bypass the EAC and antivirus software as the computer/operating system would trust it. Considering it happened fast, definitely something to do with memory injection either through EAC which there have been claims of being possible years ago or through the source engine code as it’s like 11 years old now? Definitely a huge security risk and imo, the investigation could take a long time.
Who ever is doing it, is in the game playing. He’s strategically trying to climb the ladder while taking out the highest competition.

If the issue lies in source engine then yes, as memory can be manipulated through the source engine no matter the device; if it’s something to do with EAC then most likely it won’t affect consoles. Consoles also have a tighter and more broad security system than EAC or the source code engine itself. Console should be safe but even if it was compromised, it would be detected by the security team and patched instantly.
Bro, since these anticheat drivers are kernel level drivers, and if bypassing them is as easy as this then it's a huge privacy issue too! It's only a matter of time before someone exploits the hell out of it and steal peoples data with it.

Public, LTM, and Rank have thousands of players cheating spotted regulary.
There is no moderation and most of them are automated which is proven to be not working.

It's entirely possible, he has a back door into the anti cheat and can remote launch code into any pc whenever and wherever he wants to. All pcs with easy anti cheat are vulnerable
