  • I review a cheap Chinese Water Heater I bought for less than £70 on eBay.
    Full unboxing, water test and honest feedback.

    * I have not been paid or given a free unit to test, this review is my own opinion and is not endorsed by neither the manufacturer or the vendor I purchased it from.

      Can’t see why not, just be safe and remember, these things are not the most well built units (as they warn you themselves) so take into consideration how long you can expect it to reasonably last safely.

    Year update: WOW, didn't realise I'd had so many views and comments, I thought this video had been forgotten about.
    Anyway, I did in fact leave the unit out in the garden since this review, to mainly fill my hot tub up. However it hasn't been used in a very long time so I may give it a quick scrub and see how it's held up against the elements in that time. Watch this space for a new video!

      This is what I was looking to do with it can I ask to you have it fitted outside are they waterproof

    • @ffilmpalmer8498
      @ffilmpalmer8498  Před 2 lety +2

      For those asking; they’re not waterproof, and the gubbins inside are made of very cheap steel and chinesium. I wouldn’t recommend keeping this completely uncovered outside like I did with mine (although to be fair it didn’t seem to affect how well it worked, it still provided hot water but it was very rusty).
      What I would suggest is maybe keeping it in your garage or shed in the dry, and then every time you want to fill up your spa, just hang it off the back of a chair, hook it up and use it as and when.
      In terms of cost, a 14kg bottle of gas will probably last you around a year or so if you used it a handful of times a year, and they’re around £25 the last time I checked. With energy prices the way they’re going now, I’d say relying on electricity to heat it up could result in a cost of £10 a time from cold to warm, so this represents a WAY cheaper option (and you can take this little unit camping too, so it’s handy for more than one reason). Mine is now installed full time in my camper van and it really feels great knowing I have a boiling hot shower in the van no matter where we are, better than relying on the lottery of campsite shower blocks!

  • @thecorbies
    @thecorbies Před 4 lety

    Hi. Echoing what Kieran said below. Excellent review, but the main thing with these is that they are not supposed to be fitted INSIDE the van - or enclosed space.
    Given that there's a flue going out of the room/van, it's not CO poisoning that's the issue, it's more to do with Oxygen depletion from the habitation space - thereby tending towards killing people by lack of Oxygen.
    I know there's been loads and loads of this talk on the FB group, but IT IS a real issue.
    So much so that the manufacturer even states on the unit "No installation in the room".
    It is my belief that the real issue with this unit is the lack of outside air supply.
    So, if you could supply this unit with a separate air supply FROM OUTSIDE THE VAN, I think it would be safe - but this is just my opinion.
    How do you intend to install yours?

    • @ffilmpalmer8498
      @ffilmpalmer8498  Před 4 lety +3

      I think if people lack the common sense AND reading ability to ignore the giant 'NO INSTALLATION IN THE ROOM' slogan then, frankly, that's just natural selection at work.
      This is going to be mounted to the rear door so will only be useable when the doors are open. I've seen one or two people do the same set up and it works very well. I'll make a follow up video to demonstrate when I attach it to the van.

    • @JKTowers1
      @JKTowers1 Před 3 lety

      Up until early 1990s Motorhomes/Campers used to be fitted with internal instantaneous heaters similar to this (e.g. the Vaillant MAG 125) and were also fitted with adequate ventilation to in the van shell and/or skylights to ensure there was no oxygen depletion. Also bear in mind that these water heaters typically only operate for a very short period of time, sufficient to fill a small washing bowl or sink. So provided you have adequate ventilation you should be ok from a CO point (although I'd always use a Monoxide alarm too).
      My biggest concern with this in a small space is the quality of the metal used in the LPG pipes and valves. "Cheap" and "Gas appliance" are not words I expect to see in the same product. If those fail it could be disastrous when you next light it!

      Official answer: No
      Real world answer: If you had it flued out properly and installed by a proper gas technician then I don't see why not, but you'd be hard pressed to find a gas tech who'd be willing to put their reputation in the hand of a cheap Chinese water heater. It's really a case of making your own mind up, and that's only if you're the only person you're potentially endangering.

      Mine worked fine after being outdoors all year with no cover. It was a bit rusty on the screws but the inside looked fine. However, I fiddled a little too much with the knobs and that messed up the gas regulator so it would only produce luke warm water at best.
