No feather is safe from the moult - the large ones will collect at the bottom of the cage, and many of the smaller, downy feathers will drift across your furniture and floor!

My 3-year-old budgie must be going through an extra uncomfortable molt because he's not playing or chattering, and sleeps a LOT--very unlike his usual self. His head is covered with pinfeathers. My budgies love it when I vacuum the floor: they try to compete LOUDLY with the vacuum!
Edit: One of my other budgies lost all of his flight feathers on one wing during his last molt, which has never happened before. I had to keep him caged until they grew back because he couldn't fly and crashed into the wall. 5/14/22

When my budgie is in moulting, she's always fluffy.

I've had budgies for 6 years now and I'm a bit of an overworrier, sadly.
My oldest bird (he's 6), was pretty beat yesterday, started molting and had a bit of diarrhea. Thankfully the diarrhea is gone today and while still a bit beat, he's much fitter.
He had me worried a bit yesterday!

Does your parakeet get moody and miserable during melting? Mine is going through his molt (he is about 8 months old) and he is always fluffed up and quiet, when he normally is bouncing around and constantly chirping. I’m not sure if this is normal or if he is sick, he is my first bird and I am very worried I’m not doing something correctly or anything
@@dazor5212 he had some watery poops, but they are getting back to normal now that he is getting better

Oh, so this is why my cockatiel always cleans his feathers off and has those weird white things on his head! He also eats a lot of that stuff from the mineral block i gave him! I remember my canaries moulting in September, not in February. Btw thank you Alex, I didn't know parrots passed through moulting that way.

Bird Games aka notmohid I know what you mean, budgies are loud, but I’m just saying compared to bigger parakeets and parrots, they seem so quiet! I was kind of surprised when I got my first conure; he made the budgies sounds so quiet and peaceful, since all he ever does is scream 😂

thx, the molting worried me because not only does he have pin feathers on his face, but a bit of redness too on his face, and lots of feathers everywhere. i thought he was sick or plucking. his behaviour changed too, it was really worrying for a bit. poor guys just going through a really big molt :(

Can you do a video about what you feed your budgies? I feed mine mostley pellets with a few seeds sprinkled in there and vegetables every now and then. My budgie also is always dropping feathers. Not large feathers just little bundles of white fluff? He has three or four or even more on the bottom of his cage every morning. And how did you get you budgies to eat so many different vegies and fruits? My budgie normally takes a bite and then ont eat anymore. His favorite foods are garpes and apples but I know these are high in sugars. Any advice? Thanks

Oh I have 7 budgies and everything has feathers on it but on the bottom of my cages I put some gravel paper and I don't know how it works but i think it's good for their beak because they love to chew on it.
Sand/ gravel paper is not good for budgies and neither is grit

My 2 parakeets both started molting...I had been at my dad's house for a week and came home to them like that I didn't know what was wrong as I am a first time bird owner and I couldn't find out the reasons to me babies looking like a headshhog my mom thought it was because I clipped their wings...know I know it is normal thank you

My budgie seems to always have pin feathers in his head? Only about two or three at a time and he is not feather plucking? I take him out every day and since I am homeschooled I sit with him next to his cage all day? He is sweet and happy and even says some words but I'm just worried about his nutrition. His feathers don't look as smooth or as bright as our budgies? He particularly likes to eat grapes and apples but I know green foods are the best. He just doesn't like them very much. Any advice from you or ur fans? btw ur videos are super duper helpful I love them so much!
We got our parakeet back in July and in the past month or so, his tail feathers looked odd and his wing feathers did not seem to be growing. We took him to the bird farm where we got him from where they said his tail feathers were broken and they removed some of them. There was a very long one that was bent at certain points which they said will come off on its own which it did. But his tail still looks all weird and not one straight sort of look. His wing feathers are also growing unevenly. His flight feathers still haven't come out on one side. I heard they molt first at 12 weeks old and his head doesn't seem to have any sharp edges to it or anything. What's wrong with him?
Also when we first got him, my little sister noticed two long feathers that came out, and he was about 12 weeks old when we got him. I also see him constantly playing with his feathers but he's not depressed. He happily comes out and plays with us. He was sitting on me once and he fanned out his tail pretty far and I could see all the way to where they attached.

I have a question... I have a male and female budgie both with the right colour cere for breeding time, they are both healthy and over a year old. I put a nesting box in their cage recently and they both spend most of their time in there. They don’t do anything in there but sit and find it safe. The female had chicks about 5 months ago with another male. So even though the female kisses and spends her time with the new male, nothing more has happened. Does anyone think they might breed?

Hey, I have a question, my cockatiel is one and half year old male. This is the first time I have seen him shedding so many feathers like 30+ only for a day. I saw no feathers shedding the day after. Is this also considered MOLTING? He looks a bit feverish and feet are warmer than usual. But he is pretty active. Coz it's only one day that I have seen him shedding feathers. We don't have good vets near by and I'm concerned. 😔

*i really need help I’m new at this whole budgie situation and my budgie is about 4 months he’s inexperienced he doesn’t know how to take a bath, eat fruit, step on my hand etc I don’t know what to do I’ve been training him and I only had him for about a little bit now (everything doesn’t scare him)*
I don’t know how to get him to bathe, he doesn’t like water. Every now and then I spray water on him, and it seems to work. My budgie is about 8 months old and he is my first bird.
To get him to bathe, I spray some water on him, not that he enjoys it.
He also doesn’t like fruit, but I try to give him variety. Some carrot, banana, apple, greens, strawberries... if he still isn’t eating any of it, then maybe try to put part of it in your mouth, and let him pick at it. That is how I got my budgie to eat fruits. Also, you can put treats and seeds in there for him to eat, and maybe he will get curious about the fruits and veggies
For training him, find some treats he likes. That will make him more motivated, and choose his favourites when doing something new. Above all, be patient. I was upset when he was scared of me, but now I am super happy, and I think he is too (he is moulting, not at the moment :< )

voldy it’s totally ok! If he doesn’t like to bathe try making the water a little warmer. My budgie Hates baths too so I have to spray him. Also when you feed him fruits and veggies try drying them off and make sure they aren’t wet. My budgie won’t eat anything wet! :3 and maybe put him on ur shoulder and eat infront of him. Sneak some in his food dish I recommend dark green vegetables to start ur bird off with like spinach and kale

I have a question so my budgie is going thru a moult right now and we had an accident an accidentally pulled out his tail feathers, almost everything is gone I checked no blood no swelling he’s good just like before however does this mean that his tail will begin to grow next moult since he’s already half way thru this one? Thanks and please don’t violate me about his tail it was a complete accident and I feel so bad but on the brighter side it could’ve been so much worse!
I have 2 budgies (kiwi and Loki) there is molt everywhere. When they fly in the cage all, the feathers comes out and it’s so hard to clean even the slightest wind can blow the feathers everywhere

my parakeet has some abnormal feathers on his back, not wing feathers but the soft white ones and they're growing kinda long and sticking out of his body. he's also not playing much and isn't very active anymore. He is molting, but his body and back feathers are sticking out of him while also overgrown. He's also preening which doesn't make much sense. Any suggestions?
