    I remember my budgies. They were so cute! I had them before internet was a huge deal. I bought a book that instructed you had to care for them. After that, I placed them in my bedroom. I'd talk to them everyday and eventually they let me hold them. Soon they were exploring and coming to me when I called them. They were the best pets. They loved showers, grass, the crumbs from under the kitchen table and they loved sitting on your shoulder and giving kisses. They learned to escape their cage on their own and I would tell them to "go home" and they would. When I went away to the military, my mother kept them. They had a ton of babies! About 3 or 4 sets. Then one died and the other couldn't go on without her. I remember being stationed at Camp Lejeune and my mother called me crying hysterically that the birds had died. 😢 It was a sad day. I miss those birds. They lived for about 8 or 9 years.

I really thought he was going to live, even though he was sick, my family had him for 5 years, and I didn't think he was going to die today. I was trying to help him, and wanted to come back home to him. I was so heartbroken when I heard the news. I immediently burst into tears. I'm still very sad. My dad got a new bird, but I'm still heartbroken because nothing can replace him. Yesterday, I got to hold him for the first time. I wanted to come back and hold him, but he's dead. This is actually true, I'm not doing this for dumb likes. I wanted to express my feelings.

    I have tamed many budgies/parrots from young ones to older ones, this video was great advice but the best way to tame one that seems impossible to tame is to take its food away 8 hours or so, then feed it some millet or grass (from outside the cage to start with) something that keeps hand away far enough for it to feel comfortable, after trying the steps in this video after doing this for a few days he will progress to eating from your hand inside the cage few more days slowly move hand outside the cage with him perched on hand, only thing is anyone else who wants to handle him will have to do much the same thing depending on the bird and how hard he was to tame in the 1st place. this works with pretty much any bird but they are all different personalities. food is always the best motivation for anything good luck

    I have 2 budgies that I got about 6 months or so ago and both of them were terrified if my boyfriend or I even got close to their cage. The pet store I bought them from had them in a glass container with the top off of the container so just anybody can put their hand in their space. Now though they both will do this unique chirp at me when they are out of food or water. I never forget to feed them or water them but if I do not do it first thing in the morning they let me know by the chirping sound or when i walk by the cage and talk to them they flock to the side of the cage that I am standing near. I still cant hold either one of them but I have gotten as far as if I put feed in my hand they dont hesitate to jump on my hand and snack while I talk to them. The female will often peck my hand where there isnt any food which I find strange. It does not hurt and she does not seem to be doing it aggressively she just seems curious.

      It is best for birds if they have a big, and high cage so it gives them room to fly and play.
      Small cages can actually decrease the life span of the bird so it is very important to look up information before getting a bird.

    My budgie is surprisingly not treat motivated, my past budgies have all loved apples and millet, while our little sweetheart refuses to eat anything but her birdseed. When she was new we thought this was simply because she had been born in
    captivity and never had the pleasure of eating anything other than store-bought feed, but now that she's two years old and still refuses to even try anything but her seeds we've been getting worried. Taming her took around a year due to us not being able to entice her with snacks, she would even refuse her own birdseed if offered to her by us, (this is when she's on an empty stomach.) we had to tame her by simply making her relatively free-range, hence allowing her to walk around our room and interact with us on her own accord.
    Getting her to bathe is also surprisingly difficult, we normally have to spend around 20-30minutes placing her near her bath before she'll even drink out of it. You'd think she'd be much more willing to cool off seeing as it gets extremely hot out here, yet she prefers sitting on her perch all day. Her cage's main door is open most of the time, and she has not once walked out on her own, although when she does get out, she'll prance around happily until she's tired enough to get back into her cage.

      You can earn a bird's trust back slooowly but surely. They're forgiving creatures. I had to grab my bird (deceased now) when he flew and landed on my rat's cage that I usually covered with a blanket when my bird was out. My rat went to get his foot so I had to grab my bird quickly and it scared him. But eventually he forgave me.

    • @trooperjules8741
      @trooperjules8741 Před 7 lety +4

      Hi I know this is late but this is what you should do. First touch the cage with your finger on the side where your budgie is closest to you, keep doing that until they wont get scared and fly away. then put your hand in and keep it there until your budgie is calm, do that for three days. Then get a stick or a perch and slowly move it towards your budgies belly and poke its belly so it can get on the perch. If it flys away keep trying. once it starts going on the perch move it around. Then keep moving your finger closer and closer to your budgies feet when its on your stick/perch. once it is comfortable with that you can slowly gide your finger to the budgies belly and poke it so it would stand on it.

      Target and clicker training to start off put the bird’s cage in a room you spend most of your time in you can go on youtube to find out how to target and clicker train them. he/ she will realize you=good things like water, food, ,sounds (but not loud ones) move your hands around in their cage slowly when putting food and water in until they are calm when you do it. Feed them seeds or millet from your hand over time put the seeds or millet just out of their reach and they will probably step up on your hand. Good luck!
