  • Another ____hammer?
I don't make the rules, I just read them obsessively.
Last time we saw how Magic is going to be a dominant force in Warhammer: The Old World, but it's not as simple as adding a wizard and hoping for the best.
Understanding spell types and weaknesses can help you beat anything, and with some very careful choices and play, we can create the strongest character in Warhammer.
Spectral Assassin - to finish, we'll look at build that combines 2 lores and several items to create a nearly unstoppable Wizard that can reliably hunt and kill dragons. Full build below.
    00:00 Intro
    00:19 Overview
    1:14 Enchantments & Hexes
2:25 (de)buffs Help the Underdog More
    2:46 Defensive Buffs Suck
3:55 Offensive de(buffs) Scale Multiplicatively - Battle Lust Combos
    4:40 Conveyance
    5:03 Wizard Chariots
    6:06 Magic Missiles
    6:27 Viletide Combo
    7:30 Countering Magic Missile Combos
7:46 Magical Vortexes (Vortices) are mostly the same (hard to use effectively)
8:46 Remains In Play can be super reliable
    9:24 Assailment
9:54 Spectral Assassin Build: Strongest Character in the game
    11:52 Outro
    Spectral Assassin
    Vampire Count [415 pts]
(Hand weapon, No armour, Level 2 Wizard, On Foot, Ogre Blade, Lore Familiar, Master Of The Black Arts, Dark Acolyte, Beguile, Illusion)
Vamp Abilities provide: +1 Wizard level Invocation of Nehek (ld test heal self or other units), and extra protection (pass ld test or hit on 6s).
    Some ability variation possible.
    Supporting Necromancer
    Master Necromancer [455 pts]
(Hand weapon, Level 4 Wizard, Mortis Engine, Skull Staff, Spell Familiar, Hand Of Dust, Necromancy)
For the build, the Spell Familiar is essential to maximise chance to roll Spectral Steed.
Mortis engine provides +1 to cast.
    Some item variation possible.

I'm pretty sure you can't use the Shimmering Dragon spell on a wizard mounted on a chariot. According to the mount rules, "This model uses the Movement characteristic of the beasts that draw the chariot or, if there are no beasts, of the chariot itself". The wizard would have a fly move stat but couldn't use it in this case.

Ah...looking at the Fly rule in the rulebook, it states this special rule affects the "model" rather than the profile. This is confusing when it comes to split profiles. The faq also states if a model has two Fly rules then you should choose the highest so it seems like this spell should work after all 😂.

I'm planning to run a Beastmen shaman with Hagtree fetish but I'm not sure if Viletide or Daemonology signature is the best choice or if it is opponent dependent?

      @Secrets_of_the_Old_World  Před 4 měsíci +2

It will depend on the opponent to a small extent, but Viletide 99 times out of 100. It's marginally worse against unarmoured T4/3 units, but those are rarely high priority targets.
When a shaman has the fetish, ideally they can use 2 magic missiles. The only way to get that is by taking Elementalism.

Sorry I am still learning this game, but may I ask if the opponent has a wizard imbedded in an infantry unit and I want to target it specially with a group of archers for example and have all potential hits land on the wizard and not the rest of the unit, am I allowed to do that? Or must I target the entire unit as a whole? If I have to target the entire unit, what is the best way of targeting a wizard imbedded into a unit of infantry?

    • @Secrets_of_the_Old_World
      @Secrets_of_the_Old_World  Před měsícem +1

With shooting you can only target the unit.
The best way to kill an embedded wizard is by charging it with something that can't be locked into a challenge, and allocating attacks on the wizard directly.

@@Secrets_of_the_Old_World what do you mean by that can't be locked into a challenge? would it be possible to charge a dragon into that unit and then issue a challenge directly to the wizard? or can it only be directed to a hero if they are also embedded in there? Thanks

    How does +1T decrease damage taken by returning attacks by 50%? Surely it's ~17%, going from a 4+ (50%) to a 5+ (33%) or from a 3+ (66%) to a 4+ (50%) etc.

czcams.com/video/LXgfbq9uWps/video.html - can't cast conveyance spells while in combat core rules page 108 "Wizards that are engaged in combat can only cast
    Assailment or range ‘self’ spells"

Nice video, but please skip the AI "art". It is both immoral and frankly quite ugly. You've got a good voice and video setup, you don't need it
