    6th for me. Enjoyed the short stories for every vampire bloodline.

    Maybe it's nostalgia but 6th is my favourite. Though what I loved about 6th, and I hated that they removed it afterwards, was the fact that you could customise your VC armies towards a specific bloodline. So all of your lords had to belong to either Von Carstein, Necrarch, Lahmia, Strigoi or Blood Knight alongside their associated playing rules/miniatures. After 6th edition it all just became Von Carstein who to me are the least interesting of the 5 big bloodlines!

    The 4th edition is the one I had back in the day. I remember the 5th edition releasing, but I can’t remember if I ever owned it.
    I had the 4th edition Undead Armies book and started a small little Undead Army. I remember having lots of Skeletons and Skeletal Steeds, and I think I had 1 or 2 of the special Vampire characters too. I know I liked having an Undead army as the skeletons were easy to paint! 😂

    My fav edition was the 1994 Undead book - the year I got into WHF. For me the book felt right and was not Vampire Heavy and Necromancers were cool lol. As the Vampires took over the more boring I found the army. I just never liked the Vampire element.

    • @demonstructie
      @demonstructie Před rokem +1

      Same. I started playing 40k in 1999, never got into Fantasy but I would often see games being played at my local GW and looking back the armies that most impressed me were Chaos (especially their mounted knights, they just felt so ruthless and dangerous) and Undead with their hordes of zombies and skeletons. I remember the skellies eventually taking on an Egyptian theme, that was lame. But I fondly remember those two armies in particular, to a point where I kind of want to own an army of either... But then there's no one to play old Fantasy with, or even something like OPR Age of Fantasy for all I care. And I on my part don't want anything to do with modern GW.
      Anyway this has become quite a ramble lol, tldr; old Undead were cool.

    • @Mark-nh2hs
      @Mark-nh2hs Před rokem

      @@demonstructie I had an old Chaos army of Tzeentch lol back in the 90s where Beastmen were still under Chaos . The Pink Horrors of Tzeentch (the old minis) were my fav to play lol
      I also had some Khorne and Nurgle troops and greater daemons/ lesser Daemons and named Characters.
      I miss the old magic cards and how magic was done back in the 90s with the power cards - made magic tactical and you had to plan what and when you used the powerful magic - The Total Power card was the one you wished for lol.
      I remember trying I think it was 2nd Ed 40k in the store (the edition with the cardboard Ork Dreadnaught - I'm sure it's 2nd). I didn't gel with it and Fantasy pulled me - but I did get into some 40k years later when the new Dark Eldar codex came out around 2009 or 2011 - loved the new look of the Dark Eldar and back story lol

    • @demonstructie
      @demonstructie Před rokem +1

      @@Mark-nh2hs old Dark Eldar yeah that's a good example of what I love about old 40k (and I'm sure GW as a whole although I feel less qualified to talk about that), it was _just_ the right level of edgy. You could tell the game was ran by real enthusiasts back in those days. Flipping through old White Dwarfs the contrast with modern day GW is glaring; the old magazines are just dripping with genuine excitement for the game and lore whereas the current company and business model are cynical and exploitative. I've tried to get back into it with the start of 9th edition, played probably two dozen games before realizing that the rules suck and the *constant* changing of the rules sucks even more. And it all stems from a fundamental flaw in GW's approach: they prioritize balance (which they'll never achieve because 1. it's impossible and 2. they themselves sabotage the entire balance of the game by constantly introducing new units with overpowered rules in order to sell the miniatures) over plain *fun.* So now the game is neither balanced nor fun while the company predates on your wallet and I've not found a way to get some of that old feeling back, outside of watching nostalgic videos on youtube lol.

    • @Mark-nh2hs
      @Mark-nh2hs Před rokem

      @@demonstructie I totally agree the old White Dwarfs - esp the battle reports in Fantasy (I don't know about the 40k ones as I never read those ones lol) but the fantasy ones they spun a story narrative and made made up names for the generals and champions - unless they were named Characters lol. This made the battle reports so gripping and went through every stage of the game, modern Battle reports are heavily edited and is more of a summary than a proper battle report.
      Ive been watching some old Warhammer fantasy and funnily enough some old 40k CZcams videos and looking back after watching story driven narrative 40k batreps esp the original rogue trader and 2nd edition I look back and think I would of enjoyed them but as a youngster I was more Fantasy driven than Sci fi I only got into the Sci-Fi elements was when I got Mantics deadzone and Dreadball and the appeal clicked lol. Fantasy will alway be my first love lol.
      I wasn't a fan of the old Dark Eldar I felt they were given the short end of the stick compared to the looks of the regular Eldar. The Orks always made me laugh in both games mad the lot of them. I used to think the old 40k Carnifex look so cool and many of the old minis (excluding the crap looking ones) had a real character about them - hard to explain they had a feel about them, unlike modern GW minis which just feel lifeless in my opinion - yes they produce some beautiful minis but compared to the old ones they do not resonated the same way.

    Vampire Counts were my favorite Undead army. Shame they blew up the world and gave us the age of crapmar. I dropped warhammer because of it.
