  • Sorry I made this video in a bit of a rush and didn't have all the details of the Derwent offer for free Inktense pencils...
The offer ends 19th June 2023.
It seems to just be for the UK.
    Check it out at www.derwentart.com/en-gb

    Hi Lora 👋
It’s always nice to try a new art product, (especially if it’s free or a bargain).
    Thank you for sharing💛

Hi Lora. I would suggest to use these pencils for a bit of urban sketching or nature journaling. That is what they are made for. To be super portable and convenient for outdoor sketching. Take the pencils and get out to draw either in your neighborhood or at a park.

Thanks. I’ve currently got “normal” watercolour pencils in my art bag, so it will be interesting to see whether the inktense end up replacing them

I haven't tried them yet but they look fun. 😊

Great video. I’m glad you did this because I haven’t touched my watercolor pencil set in over a year. I had to go back to see what I have. My sister got me a Kimberley 12 color set quite sometime ago and because it was a cheap set. I guess I wasn’t too thrilled. Then I got a Durwent 24 watercolor, pencil set not the ink tense, but I was very happy with them. I really like the portability and ease of use as a dry product. They are especially friendly if you take the ink off the pencil with the brush and use them like the regular watercolor set. You should try that I think you’ll be surprised. I am not a big fan of coloring with them and then wetting the paper with water because I never get the desired effect that I’m looking for with regular pan sets. This is fun.

Thank you! Glad you liked the video. When I do some testing of techniques, I’ll definitely include taking colour off the pencil with a brush. Recently I’ve been using my watercolours more often but it’s nice to have pencils as a back up for times when it’s not practical to be using paints.

I saw the statement that they can be used on fabric too. I'm interested to try decorating some fabric and then use that to cover a book. It feels like endless possibilities right now hahaha

I got a set of Inktense for Christmas a couple of years back. I used them initially and then I put them away and they live in a drawer where I don’t think of them very often… I think they’re *lovely*, I just forget to use them! Since I often do my art on the sofa, it’s also hard to have a big tin of pencils out. At the time my set of 72 pencils was on sale for 85 pounds (I did a current conversion from Canadian dollars). Glad you were able to find such a good deal to try them out 😊

It’s a difficult balance isn’t it! It’s nice to have a lot of colours to choose from but then too many becomes more of a hindrance. I’m hoping I can maybe just add a couple more (brown for example) and make do with a small set. Time will tell if I like them enough to swap my regular watercolour pencils out of my art bag (I don’t think I want to carry around 2 sets)

@@madebylora When it comes to pencils, I don’t have duplicate sets that serve the same purpose either. The Inktense are my only watercolour pencils and I’m not really drawn to buy/try any other brands. I don’t have the space to store a “ton” of pencils and markers.

I am already enjoying the Inktense. I also got a “deal” on several colors at my-sort of-local art shop. I prefer regular watercolors rather than pencils or the Inktense, but I can see a real use for them.

I find I'm using watercolours more than pencils too, but nice to try some new things occasionally. Looking forward to trying out some "proper tests" to see what they are really like to use. I also saw that they can be used on fabric which opens up all sorts of possibilities in my brain for covering books with hand drawn designs.... Maybe.

Thanks Lora, I just ordered a kneadable eraser for £2.49 and still got a pack free. Postage seems higher than usual but not so high that it's not a great offer. ❤❤❤

@@madebylora same here, I had water brushes in my basket but I didn't really need them so I just though I'd be cheeky and it worked hehe. I've been wanting to try them for ages, I still use the ones that I bought at college during my A'levels and I love them....I think we did ours at about the same time judging by the content of your art portfolio, piles of junk still lifes. I also gave the arteza ones which I don't really like much. I might be giving them away and splurging on a few nice colours of these if I like them. 😉

@@keelybumbeely4915 I had some different watercolour pencils (can’t remember the make) which I didn’t like and gave away. So I went back to my old ones. The “bad” experience made me hesitant to spend a lot of money on new pencils. Time will tell when I start doing proper images whether I prefer inktense. I think already I will want to add a brown, but I don’t mind adding an odd few colours to fill out my “free” set.
