What techniques and tips do you guys have for installing smashed tires? Thank you for watching my video and hanging out, we will put the exhaust and everything else on next! You all ROOOCK!!!

      When you get them squished cut the bands loose right away then I find anything to put inside of the tires to stretch them out and let them sit for a couple days in warmth The tires weren't obviously made like that they were stored like that for a while you just have to reverse that process

      put in a tube, air up the tire with tube for a couple days then take the tire off and the tube out, tire should be good to go. It's a lot more steps but should work well

    Michael when you are doing the starter fluid method with the tire make sure that you have constant air pressure blowing into the vent so that when it catches at one second it’ll seat the bead right away.

    Get a hands free air chuck (it clips on to the valve stem without having to hold it) and a Tire Bead Blaster (an small air tank with a pipe with a quick release valve). A lot safer, a little noisier, but I would say, more reliable and cool 👍. Especially if are going to be replacing a lot of tires.

      +1 on the bead blaster / bead cheetah. Don't know if they're cost effective enough to warrant buying, but I've had to use them in the past to stretch car tyres onto wider, small diameter wheels (like ATV dimensions) and it works like magic

Also I wanted to add a little trick I learned from a friend on breaking the beads without your special bead breaking tool. Most everyone has a floor jack so I guess that might be an exception, but jacking up the front or rear of your pickup and sliding the edge of your crusty old tire with stubborn bead under your vehicle tire and letting down slowly has always worked for me when I run into a bad one. 👍

    Awesome video. Another trick I use for quads and skid steers, is to remove the valve core in the tire stem, and then push the female quick connect on the air hose straight onto the now hollow valve stem. This allows air in at a much faster rate and is great for seating tires. Just be ready to put your finger over the end of the stem once it's got air in it, until you can quickly screw the core back in.

It took many years to finally hone in my skills to where it's actually very easy now. With all that said, here's the secret. My trick for doing this at my dads shop was to get the tire as warm as I could. Either by setting it in the sun on nice days or in front of a heater. Also a rubber tipped air gun works way better then a tire inflator tool because it lets more air faster into the schrader valve opening. Those are the two addons I have. Thankfully I did more street bikes and dirt bikes than quads and those tires at least 10 years ago never came like these.

    Hey, man! Long time viewer here (in my mind, at least - viewer since the voodoo banshee!) I have a 98 Blaster that I am working with right now. I bought some tires off Amazon and they arrived just as smooshed! My tip for the next set - 20oz pop bottles! Take the 20ozers and stuff them between the beads to stretch the tires back out. Leave the bottles in them and let them sit somewhere warm to expand for a few days to a week - should be "normal" dimensions after a few days. I used four per tire and they seemed to work out good like that. My 40 cent fix for ya!
    PS - I am STOKED to see you working on a blaster! It's great to have your work as a reference. I am learning much from you, sir! Thanks for your time editing and sharing! Looking forward to some blaster wheelies! Enjoy and be safe!

    @timothykinsey6685 Před rokem

    Mike, my name is Tim, every time I watch one of your video's, I learn something. NOW I have a chance to repay you. I have developed a method to push the beads on easily, no sweat, and every time. My co-workers tell me I should patent my idea...maybe I should...but that sounds like a lot of money (patent lawyers). I use a hydraulic press, but practically no pressure. I work for the USAF in Alaska, civil engineer squadron. We maintain about 20 zero-turn Kubota lawn mowers and RV900 trucksters, among other stuff. I change the tires. Our tires come smashed flat also. I have tried ether, air cannons, straps, etc. I put inner tubes in, set in the sun, used heat from Hotsey pressure washer also. Nothing reliable. I got fed-up a couple years ago, and decided to SOLVE THIS PROBLEM...it was making me a fool. So I built a cradle out of 1 inch square tube steel (way overbuilt), about 12 inch high, and 20 in wide. It has to be at least big enough for the bare wheel to fit down inside it, laying on it's side. So I made 2 hoops about 20 inch around (this depends on the height of your wheels), and spaced them about 12 (wheel width) inch high. I mount the tire on the wheel. I lay the cradle flat on the 20 inch hoop side on top of the 2 I-beams of the press. I have to move the I-beams down pretty far to have enough room to set the tire/wheel on top of the cradle on it's side. Then I press the wheel down inside the cradle, and it easily and slowly press's the top bead on the rim by using the cradle to push up on the bottom bead, and the bottom bead pushes all the way up to the inner side of the other bead (actually the cradle doesn't move, the wheel moves down, but it's easier to visualize this way). Each wheel usually has the "drop center" offset to one side, this is the side I have up top, and gets pressed on. Then I flip the wheel, and press it the other way, the one we just pressed on, will stay snapped on. Usually we don't have to press very far until the other tire bead makes contact with the inner part of the wheel, as it is cone shaped outward and grows in diameter as it gets closer to the other bead of the wheel. Once it lightly touch's the cone, we put air in it, and the tire slides up to the second bead, and snaps on. Depending on the depth of the wheel, the ram might not have enough stroke to go all the way down (the 12 inch part), so I have a couple of 3 inch spacers I stack on the wheel where the lug nuts would go. It takes very little pressure to push the wheel down, but a hydraulic press makes it so easy and safe. The throat of the press needs to be big enough to fit the tire size, like for a 30 inch tall tire, would need 30 inch throat
    across press. Ours is a 100 ton 4 foot across press...overkill I know. I hope you see this. I'm an old dude, no smart phone, no instagram, just a flip phone. If you need more info, don't hesitate to call me, 907 317 4625.

    You have to have the air chuck on the tire and be actively pumping air into the tire for the starting fluid trick to work properly. We do it all the time with rock crawler tires and semi truck tires even if you can get the bead to seat with out air going in at the same time it will suck back because the fire will consume all the oxygen in the tire and deflate

    • @dennisbrooks186
      @dennisbrooks186 Před rokem

      Right but what he was saying is at his buddies shop he has the air cheater chuck. It clips onto the valve stem and puts out as much air pressure as the compressor can produce. Instead of the standard style when u push the button, it's still regulated. He would need that attachment matt has for the sudden massive burst of air. Anything less is useless I've been there when I used to change car tires for a shop.

      @@dennisbrooks186 never had to use that clip on chuck all the Milton air chucks will do the job even the one he had that looked like the blue point one you can Throw a zip tie on the handle and keep it flowing once it’s pushed on and you angle it down slightly it will stay on the valve stem I literally do this 10-15 times a month

    Michael when im mounting an atv tire i have a jug of tire slick and i will try to get one side of the bead to semi seat first then i wil use a locking open chuck and lean the rim against an object and push on it till the other bead takes . once it does i pull the locking chuck of and already have the shrader valve in the stemworks 98% of the time for me

    In the future, put 50:50 dish washing liquid and water mix on the bead prior to the gas trick. The soap will allow you to slip it on the rim much more easily and when you gas trick it too. I use a bbq brush to apply it on the tire bead and a baby bottle to hold the mix.

I was hopping around for a few days! Lol I see you sat there so chill whilst filling the tire with air. Haha nice one tho mike! You did it! Lol

    I work at a shop that regularly mounts atv/utv tires, and when we get squished tires like that we put 3-4 2x2 pieces of wood cut to a few inches (idk? 6”?🤷🏾‍♂️) and spread the tires for at least a few hours before we mount them. Works like a dream everytime. If you don’t want to use 2x2’s, find some nice robust sticks and cut em to length

    put spacers between the beads and put them in the sun. or some way to warm them up. on most car tires I use aerosol cans standing upright between the beads. let them shape up. then mount them and it will be much easier than wrestling with it. took buddy 6 hours. 3 hours of stretch time and one hour of wrestling. still saves time.

    You can turn that muffler into a Supertrapp. All you need to do is get a 4 inch disc kit and end cap then drill and tap the end. I`ve put them on a few DG mufflers to tone them down.

    my buddy installed tires on forklifts . here is a good tip for receiving squashed tires and opening them back up . find any size innertube that will fit inside the unmounted squashed new tires or old . inflate tube to spread the tire outwards as much as you can .put out in sun unless its winter. put somewhere warm in winter like next to your woodburner. he said it may take up to 24 hours.

    If I may make a recommendation on the tire expansion trick, try to find and use starting fluid that doesn’t contain oil. As a kid I’ve seen my grandad do this with tractor tires all the way down to rotto tiller tires, and since then I’ve used several different highly flammable substances to do this. From xylene, methanol to acetylene etc. Id also recommend taking the air hose off and the valve core out to any viewers watching. Because I’ve seen some use to much of a given substance and the tire blows off the rim because the air had no where to go!

    use innertubes to pre stretch the tires out for a while, then tires will hold a better shape, and warm them up

  • @stevenkeeffe9137
    @stevenkeeffe9137 Před rokem

    The easiest way to handle squished tires is to inflate tubes in them to stretch the tire and set them where they will get direct sunlight for a few days (heat/cool cycles) and when you are ready to mount them to the wheels, deflate & remove the tube and mount. The tires will retain that inflated memory long enough to not have to fight it.
    It's what we did back when the popular thing was to mount 175/70-14's on wide wire spoke wheels. We kept a set or three in the shop with the tubes inflated so that we had those tires ready to mount when customers came in for them.

    A little compressed air blown into the grip can work wonders helping you get them off. Bonus to that is they usually come off intact with that method.
