- Filmed on location in 1997 at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, the show was a six-part BBC documentary, which followed the day-to-day running of the park. It was mainly focused on the rides and the park managers, Jim Rowland and Keith Allen. The film crews also spoke to Geoffrey Thompson and Amanda Thompson, the director and producer of Stageworks Worldwide Productions (which directs, produces and choreographs the shows within the park.)

Amazing time machine. In the 90s they didn't even have a name for whiplash he called it shock waves. Cups of tea all round fixed this incident. Today people would be suing for thousands!
I suppose back then there weren't a load of law firms advertising their no win, no fee policies. If they had easy access to legal representation, these lot would have sued for fun.

This was filmed before May 1997 as both Blackpools MP’s would change in May 1st that year with the Labour Landslide.
I wish Blackpool and the pleasure beach was like this today, sad how things have declined over the years and some people call it progress.

it's a fairly tame ride, but is very risky as the rollercoaster train is free running and not attacked to any tracks.
if this happened in America everyone on that ride would be suing for millions.
amazingly the avalanche or is it called bobsleigh ? is still there in 2o23 and operational.
I've been going to this Northern ride park since the 1960s, and it's still a great experience.
although I preferred it in the olden days 60s, 70s and 80s, even the 90s, when health and safety wasn't much of a concern, it made the rides that bit more adventurous.
Wtf is a northern ride park??? It’s called Blackpool Pleasure Beach. It’s a theme park / amusement park. And if you went and if you watched this documentary you’d have seen it’s called the Avalanche. And it’s very safe.

I know this is old but, removing that injured boy and making him walk from the coaster without real paramedics is shocking. And then at 22:20 the Director attends the incident and first asks, 'Any Media phone calls yet' and secondly asks, 'anyone injured' wtf, get your priorities right!!
The public relations director is responsible for coordinating the response to media enquiries, therefore her first port of call will be to check if they’ve had any calls

Icon is absolutely rubbish! On so many levels it is underwhelming! It spends a lot of time going left and right slowly and smoothly. Geoffrey would be very proud however and I'm not being sarcastic I genuinely mean Amanda well. Icon is garbage however.

I've been watching various Blackpool documentaries the past few days and it seems the attitude of business owners there is abysmal. They got by without business acumen or standards for so long they fail to realise when things become a struggle they have to make a reasonable effort. Blackpools demise cannot just be put down to changing times, they failed to uphold any standards. What a dump.
Blackpools not a dump, but the people who go there are disgusting with all the litter they leave behind on the steps on the beach, its the holidaymakers that make it look like one, not the actual place

Yeh my mum says the same about her rudeness, we are also from Blackpool and someone I know works at PL and says how rude she is. The pay is also outrageously low for under 18s, my friend runs a shop on her own for 12 hours, half an hour break and gets paid 4 pound something an hour.

The last time I was at the Pleasure Beach, way back in 2002, I remember it was £5 to go on 'Valhalla'.. I'd hate to think how much those rides cost now!
Now you just pay park entry and all the rides are free with the wristband. But that’s like £40 for the wristband for the day.

How did the security get away with telling people they were under arrest, they only have the same powers as a member of public and should therefore state they are under a Citizen’s arrest under section 24A of the police and criminal evidence act with police being called immediately, they should also never lock anyone in a room for detention on there own! 🤣 if this was happening now they would be seeing themselves in court being sued.
