Jory, I think your analysis is spot on. Definitely a "look at me!!!" piece. The amazing 10 day power reserve caliber can be seen as an in-house movement, not a re-worked movement from another supplier. It can then be used in more conservative watches, in stainless steel, at a more affordable price.
Do I like the "X", yes.
Will I buy one? Not at that price.
Will I talk and think about Oris more now than before? Yes I will.
    Job well done by Oris.

      Well said.
These 10 day power reserve watches are phenomenal but the sizes are pushing it for my skinny wrists.

ΙΩΑΝΝΗΣ ΛΙΑΡΟΣ But the accuracy sucks (+6, -4). Any watchmaker can slow their movement down to increase the reserve, but accuracy is the price to pay. For the same money my Explorer 39 is crazy accurate (maybe I got lucky, but running less than half second slow a day). Wait a year or two, and you will pick one of these up for less than half retail. That won’t happen a Rolex. Oris is shooting too high here - the Zenith is a safer (and cooler) buy if want skeleton.

Pete at Not So Obvious Watches mentioned that if you look closely you can see neat airplane design elements, like a turbine fan in movement on the bezel. It's like the more you look at this watch the more it reveals. And good for Oris for pushing the envelope on what it can be.

So...... I'm gonna ramble for a minute about my thoughts regarding ORIS.
When I purchased my first high end watch ... It was an ORIS.
A "TT1 day/date gray face bracelet Circa 2012...and at the time, Oris said" Real watches, for real people".
That tag line hit home for me.
There is an honesty about their watches.
I now own two ORIS Watches.
And now Oris say " Go your own way".... Same song different verse as far as I am concern because I am an ORIS fanboy.
The history and heritage, and everything.... To creat such impressive time pieces at attainable prices.
    What's not to love .
    Then came the "X".
And same as you I thought WOWZER what a watch... 10 day power reserve, titanium and built to take a beating with 100 m water resistance etc ... AMAZING .
And yes.... $7600 bucks... No way!!!
Cuz I have no issue with the price what so ever.
BUT.... I'm not a fan of skeletonized watch cases either.
    Too distracting.
    Unpure.
    Weird.
THEN... The more I learned the more I wanted to be apart of this ORIS future.
A genuinely unique and forewords thinking and advanced time piece.
    And it's an ORIS !?!?!
    Well ladies and gentlemen....
It most certainly is ORIS !
And be honest.... Is it really any surprise.
    I will have one!
And gladly pay full retail just so they know we know ORIS makes a dam fine time piece... At any pricem
We need to encourage this kind of watch making.
Go your own way...... Indeed and hell yeah.
    Congratulations ORIS.
Yes yes yes.... One shall be mine my precious........ ;-).
    Great review !
    Love the show.
    Be well..... peace

I think what sets the BC ProPilot X apart is that sceletonization is not just another feature to an existing movement, removal of less load bearing materials. It has been designed this way right from the beginning. In my opinion this leads to the modern sceleton-watch look, as a construction and not as an additional process.

  • @flatspin7
    @flatspin7 Před 5 lety +2

It’s a halo watch. It offers a new movement with a bold look. It’s had more people talking about Oris than it’s had in years. It a bold statement that will bring interest in the rest of the line. I’m sure that movement will appear elsewhere as well. While it’s 7600 dollar cost is high and above their range it isn’t wild in world of halo watches.

Your big crown is the way I found your channel .....I think it’s been two years now!? Anyhow, as a technological flex on their part I think they did a great job, and if it was offered in 39-41mm I think I’d be a buyer! I’m usually not a fan at all of skeleton dials but I like this one!
Also, what’s even more exciting is there are huge rumblings of in house movements coming to their regular lineup.... I would go nuts for an aquis or diver 65 with some type of in house movement chronometer....oh boy.

  • @MJFallout
    @MJFallout Před 5 lety +1

Well, the 10day power reserve is really cool; in theory you needn't tend to it even if you only wear it once a week or so... But, if you are a person who drops7k on an extra expressive watch like this, chances are high that you are an enthusiast who owns other mechanical watches that need handwinding and setting, and that all hang out in a watch box... so de facto nothing would actually change; you'd still be winding and checking a bunch of watches each morning. Oh, the struggle of 1st world problems!

Oris have a bunch of watches with this 110 based caliber. Oris 111 or 114 is pretty clean if you aren't for the skeleton. New for 3500€ and up on Chrono 24. 112 and 113 are a bit dressier. Again spanning 3500-5000€. Read somewhere it takes more or less 270 rotations of the crown to get to 10 days. Love the idea, but hell that's a lot of winding.

I'd kind of want to know more about the 10-day power reserve: How much and how fast does the accuracy wane as the reserve depletes (a graph would be awesome), and, is the mainspring as durable as a two-day reserve? or does it need to be replaced more frequently? Also, does such a large power reserve put more pressure on certain going train parts that might wear out faster? or has that been accounted for if that's the case?

    • @mood1676
