I owned the BCPP GMT several years ago (5), and sold it due to inadequate lume and the size being too big. Oris is using much better lume these days, I have this exact watch and the lume lasts all night. This is the perfect daily/field watch. The screw down crown provides re-assurance the 10 bar wr will always be met
I absolutely love this watch. I have the blue dial variant as my daily wear. I feel it wears smaller than 41 on my 7 inch wrist. I'll note that the clasp has a tendency to get caught on things, causing it to pop open. It's easy to operate, but I've nearly lost it a few times.
40 mm plus classic/retro watches irritate me. With slim wrists (6 and 1/4 inches in my case) 37/38 mm is the sweet spot. My 2012 Oris Classic is just perfect but this would be too large.
Great review! I bought this exact watch with my head, but my heart has caught up nicely. It just works. The case, the dial, the slightly larger date complication. It's really my most competent everyday piece. The more I wear it, the more I love it.
Excellent photography/video shots. This has been on my radar sometime. I think they really improved the dial with the raised numerals and date execution. I wished they'd offer a no-date version. I never cared for the case back display. The red accent seems off to me. Its big brother, the day-date is too large for my 7in wrist, yet I can pull off a Panerai just fine. It must be the case design overall that wears big. Thanks for sharing.
I think this was a very well done refresh by Oris. In blue it’s now a very versatile piece, sitting somewhere between the Flieger and sports-watch categories.
Great choice for your final 2020 review! I got the 45mm width daydate version with a black dial and green canvas bracelet for my 7 inch wrist this March and it’s been my personal favorite this year. Love the clean dial and sober design that borders on Bauhaus. It’s a great utility watch that wears well with Jeans and everyday wear.
Thanks for the great review. This watch is already on my shopping list. Would love to see it with the new calibre 400 and the 5 days power reserve. Gray dial looks great and works with both bracelet and straps.
I have recently purchased it. It’s a very nice watch, but even for big wrists, the strap is terribly uncomfortable due to the clamping mechanism. It looks good yes, but after adjusting to your lenght, the remaining strap that goes in between your wrist and the outter part of the strap makes the whole thing raise a lot above your skin making it too bulky. While leaving a gap where there is no excess strap.
This is the second Oris watch I have bought with serious quality problems. Good while it lasted, or three months, It does not keep charge but undoes it spinning the automatic weight. It started little by little and now it is all the time. My Oris Moon Complication watch is in repair, also. Unhappy.
The 41mm face is perfect and 44-45 too big. The date numeral at 3 o'clock legible. Large raised Arabic numerals clearly visible at glance against dark background. Hard to get the black face and band is a bit narrow. I like the thick leather bands w/bold stitch from IWC. This Oris is superb, not too glitzy or barren w/missing numerals. It’s understated and I love it.
Beautiful case. Always been tempted by a field/pilot watch. Is it too sterile? Not sure, I’d have to see one in the flesh but casework is really good. Love Oris. Great brand and the Sellita is a solid movement.

This is also one of those watches you absolutely need to see in person before you buy. Allthough the case and dial are what you expect beforehand, the numerals appear much smaller in person.
Great video as always, teddy. I'd love to see a review for the Oris Artelier pointer day date. In my opinion it is the best-looking dress watch from the brand.
Love this range of watches, I wish they had better movements, but then the prices would go up so on balance they are probably best being left alone. The ones with in house movements are straying into Omega money and as much as I like Oris, they are no Omega.
I don't know if they improved the movement but I have one of these from a few years back and the movement is terrible. Might just be a lemon as a standard sw200-1, but it felt like it was grinding itself to death and has a major reverse-wheel problem (rotor spin, notorious with ETA and SW like this.). But aesthetics wise, it really grew on me over time. But I'd honestly take a Miyota over a base grade ETA or SW at this point, Miyotas don't have winding issues. Those new 80 hour ETAs hopefully have hardened sprocket wheels and fixed the winding problem, but I have no idea.
I'm having this, I really like the iwc mark xvii, but at over £4000 this oris seems the better choice at almost a quarter of the price, always liked the brand Oris , excellent review 👍
These are basically a poor mans IWC. I guess it depends where you are coming from, if you just fancy a good looking pilots watch you can’t go wrong with one of these. If you want the best then you pay more and go for the IWC. Personally I prefer the Oris watches, I have no issue putting IWC money into a watch but it wouldn’t be for an IWC, I’d spend that sort of money on an Omega or Grand Seiko before IWC, but that’s just me.
@@Jabber-ig3iw yeah I hear what you're saying, I'm the same with sinking that sort of money into watches, I think I'd need to have the iwc in my hand to truly appreciate it, I own 2 oris watches and think they are well worth the money 👍
Oris is an interesting brand. Their watches are a good example of the principle of diminishing returns. I don't mean that disparagingly, though. Spec-wise they appear overpriced, but in the metal their quality becomes more obvious. Lines are crisp, flat surfaces often have an easing to their shape giving added visual interest crystals are cut affording beauty and clarity. Also, I think it's obvious that their design team labors extensively getting proportions right, on the dials, cases and bracelets. This Pro Pilot, while not flashy, is almost sublime in its cohesive, well proportioned design. Next to more affordable Swiss brands like Hamilton and Tissot, I would choose Oris 10/10 if price was equal, but for that subtle improvement in quality you have to pay what many will consider a disproportionate premium.
@@InGratitudeIam I did and didn't see anything surprising. Prices start around $1,300 and go up from there. Those prices look high next to some other Swiss brands with similar complications and movements.
Did anyone catch the second hand glitch @ 6:13-6:14? I love Oris and paticularly love the Big Crown series, but what's up with that glitch, was it (hopefully) just the camera?
Quick note Teddy. Your sales page on your website says lug to lug is 52mm but the video said 48.6mm. May want to clarify the website as I think the 48mm number is right. 52mm will turn off A LOT of people.
Great looking watch, along with Oris' BC3 Advanced pilot watches. Just too bad that they don't use the higher grades of Sellita. Mine were never very accurate at all. I don't think that you can realy expect the accuracy that you claim here. Oris certainly doesn't. Look at the manual.
In a lot of Big Crown Pro Pilot photos hands look completely white. Can someone tell if that is a trick of the light, or ORIS does paint the hands outline white on some models?
it's 2022 and I still haven't picked one up. Surprisingly, I found this watch wears thick and I think it has to do with the slab sided case. Overall I decided on the Longines Conquest 41 instead.
I just had this watch in hand at the local jewellers and the hour markers just look painted on. I thought they were applied and almost stuck out and 3D looking as in this video
Pretty watch, nice size. But with the basic Sellita movement and fabric strap, this watch is just over-priced. Even a very comparable Alpina or Laco is hundreds less. Oris has a long and storied history, but you pay a significant premium for the name.
