- Exploring the best fishing spots around Auckland, New Zealand.
In this fishing video, we travel to the beautiful regional parks from South to West to East to North and show you all the great fishing spots that we used to camp at when we were still living in Auckland.
Despite being such a large city, Auckland is surrounded by beautiful nature reserves and stunning coastlines. The Hauraki Gulf has always been a very good fishery although the variety of species is on a decline. Snapper, Kingfish and Kahawai are still plentiful here, especially during the summer months.

Shakespear or Tapapakanga? What is your favourite one among them? I can’t decide 😂
that's a tough decision :)
This is an excellent film. I lived in Auckland for 3 years and went to all these spots and there's so few people that realize what a great outdoor area there is around Auckland.
Thanks 🙏 Yeah for sure. The regional parks are top notch and amazingly not very crowded.
pink beach just around the bend from shakespear is good to i got a 1 meter snapper there
Nice tip, thanks for that
Its been opened for iver 15years wai tawa, you had to walk around the beach or over the farmland to get to the warf ive never beeen there back then. was going to orere point on the rock there fishing, that was about 30years ago you could see the kinas in the water back then. i was only about 13 years old but went with older neighbor freinds catching everything back then kahawai kingis john dory red moki trevelly gurnard now its mainly snapper but i love orere point rock for fishing south of Auckland we still do it to this day with they same neighbors from 30years there from wakatane opotiki and we from kaipara pouto papakainga near pouto peninsula that's where I learnt fishing and diving skills from diving 20-30ft down to get musells and kina cray with all my cousins doing on daily for fun and I was young but could dive quite deep I actually freaked out a guy that was using tanks he came up and told my dad that was i pretty good for hik to see me down where he was well thats what he thought but yes I did dive down to where he was and I tapped him on his shoulder hahaha😅 which gav him a fright.
Linking the fishing bite time with the fisherman getting hungry too, I love it:). This is a fine piece of work, thanks.
haha, thank you, appreciate that :)
Cool video. Familiar with all these places. Brings back good memories.
Glad you enjoyed!😀 we also left Auckland! All those places are good memories for us for now! 😉
Great vid. I know most of these spots but never camped there. So I'm keen to do that this summer. Looking forward to the next couple a bit further north. Keep up the Good work!
Cheers mate. Yeah, camping out at these parks is really good, eh. I used to setup camp with my old van at Shakespeare, Tapapakanga or Mahurangi for a couple of days in a row when there was a good forecast and always had a blast and came back with a few good fish.
Great video! Thanks 😊
Glad you liked it!
Legend 🎉
Cheers :)
지금 오클랜드 놀러 왔는데 낚시대를 놓고 왔네요... 조만간 영상 포인트 다 가보겠습니다^^ 항상 좋은 영상 감사합니다!

Nice to see some fresh videos on CZcams that are different to most other fishing channels. Very informative and you catching some good fish and well filmed and edited. Ka mau te wehi! 👍🏾
Thanks man, appreciate the nice feedback. Yeah trying to keep it informative and hopefully, it will be somewhat useful to others. We love your channel as well, you got some really interesting content on gathering wild food and it's very well presented.
Awesome vid guys!! I've still never been to whatipu eh what a cool looking place
You're kidding mate 😂 How long have you lived in Auckland for? haha. Yeah you gotta check it out. And you'll probably meet Peter there, haha
@@Fishingreminder hahaha I mainly did east coast fishing lol
@@fisheatrepeat Wild west☺, I prefer to fish in the Eastern side as well.
Very good Inf.😊
Thanks 🙂
Funny to find myself (and my wife) on your video man (we are the kayakers that had just got back that day) 😂 - great vid! I support your app too!
Hi Chris, that's awesome mate. Were you the guys at Kawa Kawa bay? Also thanks so much for supporting our app, much appreciated.
@@Fishingreminder Nah, we are the ones at 2:01 (Orere Point) loading the kayaks... also you came across us again when you visited Mahurangi as our car is behind you too! - so funny!
@Chris Leskovsek haha, what a coincidence 😂
@@chris_leskovsek You must be a member of kayak fishing club?!! 😄
Hi there, really useful info for my upcoming trip to Auckland in March. Do you have any info on fishing outside the marine reserve of goat island? I have heard it’s really good fishing nearby. Obviously I want to only fish in an area that is legal. Cheers!
Cheers mate, glad it was helpful. What type of fishing are you planning on? Ti Point is popular for land based fishing in this area. There is a wharf by the estuary entrance. Also the Leigh beach on the northern side of the marine reserve could be a good option for surfcasting or launching a kayak if it's calm.
Got a Fishing Times Pro a few weeks ago and just trying it out. Good video! It would be great in the future if you make a true landbased spots video not mostly kayak Fishing. Cheers! Thank you 😊
Thanks for the great feedback Joseph. Good idea for a land based only video. We'll see what we can come up with :)
Do you like the app? Is it easy to use?
you cant go fishing in reginal parks right????
You can go fishing there. You're only not allowed to fish in marine reserves.
do we need a license to go fishing in New Zealand?
Only for fresh water fishing. You need a license
