5 Day Solo Primitive Survival Challenge 🏝

- Taking only my clothing, filming gear, eyeglasses & toothbrush I am once again testing my survival skills enduring 5 days alone on a small island in Tasman New Zealand. My first challenge will be to find fresh water. It is the middle of winter so there will be very little food growing therefore I will have to somehow catch fish, and forage for anything growing on the island.

Man goes out for an exercise. Makes shelter, fire, tools, water facility, food processing station, domesticates fowl, brings smoked fish home for family and friends.
All without a match or pocketknife.
Toothbrush and glasses and an amazing disposition.

Why you don't start the fire at the place where it actually will burn? I mean, I get that you need a certain light angle for ignition, ok. But you take the glimmer anyway and could place it right at the place where the fire ends up, no?

Hey clay, I think you are missing a trick here! I’m in the uk and would PAY to come over and experience/ learn/ generally get back to nature! You are an inspiration bud, I know it wouldn’t be a party/ glamming but that is what makes it so interesting and challenging….life skills, humbling! Good job!
I give my Patrons on Patreon first hand lessons on bushcraft and hunting. You are right, though. It is downright uncomfortable and means living hard to do these challenges. The camera and editing cut out many of the logistical nightmares and the heath and safety issues that you invariably encounter.
Ray is one of the most delicious fish I ever tasted. Make a local coconut curry with tons of chilies.. Heaven!

Respect. You definitely don't make it easy on yourself. I don't think anyone would begrudge you a pocket knife, which would be a game changer for you. I've done some long minimal-kit trips before and the work never stops.

damm this is literally my dream, i played this game called stranded deep on my ps4 where you a stranded on a tropical island and have to build shelter, and spear fish and sharks, and build a raft out of sticks and travel to different islands, and i love the idea of it all and you are literally doing that in new zealand which is where i live and i think that these videos are the best and most inspiring videos ive ever watched on youtube. thank you for making this. i love the part where you were spearing the eagleray that was so cool, and i loved seeing it being hanged up like that.
I remember making spears and fishing for flounder on Great barrier Island with my mates when I was in my early 20s. We didn't get back to camp till it was about 11pm. We were cold and hungry, and just couldnt wait till the morning for a cook up. So I totally get the way your savoured that fish. They are oily, buttery and delicious. We are lucky in Aotearoa.

I've been camping, both standard and shelter build most of my life. I'm also subscribed to many outdoor channels. Having said that, I've witnessed things in this video that I've never seen before, and it is really exciting to learn something new. I think I'll have to subscribe and happily so.

i like how you did this in winter too, to show it can be done, and that its not only duable in the nicest part of the year, i feel like it is a lot more realistic in winter, and i havent seen anyone do anything like this especially in winter, the only videos similer to this are on tropical islands where the weather is too hot.

There are so many videos about all the gadgets that people can buy in order to be completely prepared for camping, and still, these people never do camp , they just buy all the stuff. I on the other hand admire the people who can go into the wild with fewer things and more basic equipment. This video is truly fantastic, congratulations.

hi clay,thanks for t will send you the link to the fascinating podcast i watched. ive had only cold showers for the last five years. and its been a real game changer to my health.he cool vid. i watched a podcast recently on the power of exposing ourselves tot he cold. the cold feet and warm body will have something to to with the activation of brown fat. this is the type of fat that keeps bears hibernating warm. also id really love o know what common trees are safe to skewer food on vs ones that are not!
