Coastal Camp, Forage & Fishing With What I Can Find.

- New Zealand, South Island, Tasman. 21.01.2022. My personal challenge is to go camping on the coast with nothing but a life jacket, PLB, the clothes I am wearing a GoPro, and a bunch of batteries. My objective is to find fresh water and make something to hold it in. Find or build a shelter that I can sleep in then find string and a hook to fish with. To somehow find the materials to build a boat and go to sea to catch a fish. To forage the shoreline at low tide for shellfish and pick any berries or fruits growing along the coastal flora. I am not far from my home so I know this place well. Join me as I set about this adventure.

"It's got that bird shit bouquet about it"
"fuck that's good, get some more of that"
I'm not even 8 minutes in to my first time watching Clay and I'm already in love oh my god hahaha
yeah i had to subscribe too, tastes salty, cant be salt water, its bird shit.
It got me laughing so hard 😂😂😂😂
hahaha yeah, i had the same reaction.
Hahaha, same!
52:15, you gave one of your hard fought fish to the lady and the kids. you earned my subscribe
Thanks for watching right to the end mate.
You really are made for these types of videos... I can't help imagine what a young Clay would do in his prime, with a go pro and some of the stuff you'd get up too and film. Probably take over the internet if it was around then!
Man, if I had my youth I would smash it out of the park. I do these challenges with damage to my body from cancer heart disease and injuries. Thanks for recognizing the potential in me.
@@ClayTallStories You're doing a lot more than people half your age! I know these survival videos take a toll on you, but honestly this is the best entertainment on youtube! Considering they don't really make guys like you anymore, videos like this are important for future generations to see.
@@ClayTallStoriesCouldn’t even tell you had all of that ailments, keep it up brother!
@@ClayTallStories You're an amazing human my dude, keep up the amazing content.
I have been a offshore fishing guide , lived in the bush , in Alaska . Big game hunted all my life . I thought I was hard . Hats off to you I am a big fan . Your the real deal ,thanks for this experience .
This should be mandatory viewing for high school. Teach kids a few things and hopefully get them out into the world the dont know exists.
There's a story I heard; A man was lost at sea, he caught fish. After a long time he developed vitamin deficiencies. He was just eating the white meat. He needed other vitamins. His body, his mind tricked him into thinking that the eyes, and brain tasted like candy. He survived!
You sir, are an absolute legend! I can't believe you built that "boat" out of basically nothing and actually went and caught fish with it. This is prime content. I'm hooked
I work 9 to 5 six days a week, at the weekend I get to wash my car and cut the lawn, you videos give me so much pleasure I can’t put into words, please keep them coming. God bless you. Uk
Thanks mate.
I actually like that you take things like the coffee and the saw, because at the end of the days it’s better for us as the viewers too. No point suffering and providing less content just to prove a point :p
The birdshit but had me creased 😂
Same 🤣
😂
He was very nice to those people. I know he was counting on that coffee, but you couldn't tell at all.
I used to work in construction and was dirty. But watching your video has taken my dirt experience to a whole 'nother level. 🤔🤔🤔
Haha. Brilliant
@@ClayTallStories I'm watching this again and Clay , I've to say, the you made that boat out of nothing --------- most amazing brother! Most amazing. God certainly has blessed you with a gift! I'm impressed! 🙂
Your a bloody legend clay goes to show you dont need a flash rod and a flash boat to catch fish and the hard times were living in now just shows we can live off the land good video bro please do more
cheers mate
I can see the effort you put in this and
You given the big fish to her and you kept the small fish salute man.
Definitely lots of "minerals" in that water hahaha
Clay fillets fish better with a rock than most people.. 😂
Awesome video clay, thoroughly entertaining! would love to see more of these longer coastal hunting/gathering/survival videos. Keep it up!
I am planning a new one next week.
Thanks for your videos and sharing your knowledge with us legend 💪🏻
Honestly amazing, I wish there was more, keep up the awesome work, can tell you enjoy being out in it ❤
Just started watching you. Love it, and you even cuss...me too. Glad you're not afraid to. Lots of nice resources. Enjoyed, thanx
Another example of what we can do and what we can eat when the situation calls for it. Very entertaining and instructional. You would make an interesting friend. Continue the good work.
Is amazing the adventure is real. not so easy to be in the island alone you make a lot of experiment rod to catching the fish is a wonderful moment Clay. keep safe always . May God bless you and protect you where ever you go.
Just this week I made home out of an 8'×10' canvas tarp and my trusty hammock. Turned out 40°f first night and 45° next. I caught an 18" bass (full of eggs). Mmm mmm good! After four days I had to break camp. I missed my coffee! Great adventures. We have some nice bamboo here in Texas, I plan on making a raft and doing a freshwater fish and camp video of my own, thanks for the video!
Nice work!
Try make a video and post it! It would be a great start. At least you could watch it later.
Wow,top video.
You have turned everything upside down now ,as now the essential survival tool is a hand saw.
that was great, also love teaching the people about the fish!
favorite quote in this video was in discussing the bed: "Gonna see if that feels comfortable or not... feels like sh**" hahaha epic. Cheers mate love the videos of yours like this.
I was wondering why the video had no explanation, until I read the description. It's a personal challenge. That's Cool. You have Skills.😎👍💯
Do more videos like this. Was awesome to watch. Thankyou clay
Bloody awesome Clay I hope that gives people an insight of what can be achieved when you are caught out with nothing and you need to survive.
“Nothing worse than a rotten citrus” felt that😂
It's amazing how much it puts things in perspective to watch someone get so excited about finding a few rusty old fishing hooks 😄
You can actually "cook" the fish in mushed gooseberry. Like using tomato and lime to cook tuna for ceviche
“It feels like shit”…..at last, an honest outdoorsman. Subscribed!
Cool clay.... the idea to gave you, can sit back and enjoy.
really love your vids Clay, addicted to it
That contraption was awesome!! Now I know why u got so excited finding the hooks

Brilliant 😂.
Love these videos. Keep it up chap.
Pitty the citrus was off but you could use the passionfruit (acidic) to partially cook (marinade) the fish. Yum.
Good point
It's amazing what you can find on the beach..
Now that's a proper survival video, enjoyed every bit of it, cheers!
49:30
Sounds like a crisp, refreshing fish right there XD
So honest and resourceful!
Mackerel and gooseberry go well together
This is probably the third video of yours come up and I really enjoy it. Thank you for taking me on coastal adventure. I hope to see more of this style on your channel. Cheers
Your accent and happy attitude make your videos much more relatable to a simple man like me. I think because of this, I enjoy here more than field days.
Re-watching some of your stuff. It's raining in my town so this is just what I wanted

@@ClayTallStories Credit where credit is due mate. I love all that type of thing, I'd say I'm an armchair survivalist. I also like they way you take time to like your follower comments. I can tell ur a genuine guy as it comes across in your awesome content.
Quite good to find so little plastic on the beach, you wouldn't go far to find a plastic drink bottle on the beach's around here. Also a thing of mine to give away part of the catch to someone who enjoys fish, cheers mate.
Wow !!! Thank you 😊
I’ve been bingeing you brother.Loved your reaction when you found those hooks…..priceless,made me laugh tears.
I appreciate that
Yep.. clapped when clay found the hooks.. exciting break.. that boat though.. 🕊NZ
Absolutely brilliant video mate. Great you did more than one day. Most people on youtube only do a 1 day challenge but you made it tough doing a few days and with nothing. Absolute legend
I would have stayed much longer but my son had to leave for the coast so I had to come home to look after the dogs and livestock.
Definitely one of my favourites of your vids!
Mine too! Getting back to basics this year as I am wanting to get away from media and all the hype.
At last, some real survival craft. I live on a tiny island, 500 miles off from the main island of Okinawa, and I can relate to what you do, living in harmony with nature under any type of circumstances. Awesome video from a unique man. Next time, bring some soy sauce for your raw fish ;)
Wow Good size Snappers too, Great stuff , A level up from Bear Grills for sure. Fantastic Kiwi spirit ! love the can do attitude. Inspirational!

That bit of flint was a find and so was the flasher rig.
I found a line with over 12 hooks on it a day before that while kayak fishing. That video is coming up in feb
It almost looked like someone put it there😉
@@Greg_lark Yes there may be a props department.
Well done Clay. Bugger about the coffee.

That was awesome clay, you got better snapper from rubbish off the beach that most people can get from the gear that cost them a few hundred bucks.. good lesson to learn about how it was like for the people before us .. keep up the great work, sending good vibes from the east coast of Australia
awesome comment. Thanks mate
True Survivor mate, excellent, ur a good example to the younger generation mate, proud of ya.
Thanks mate
I thoroughly enjoyed this one 😀
I like this survival ...lot of knowledge
Back to basics brother... I love it. So cool
Awesome video Clay I'm amazed on how you can go without a meal for that long it made the feed look so rewarding and delicious good stuff
I have trained my entire system. For the last 3 years I have only eaten every 23 hours and stuck to a keto diet 90% of the time. Zero sugar or refined carbs. My body burns fat for fuel where as most people burn sugar and carbs. To become fat burning adaptive you first have to drop sugar and refined carbs. It takes about two weeks to adapt.
Thanks you very much for that information Clay I'm going to try this for myself your a bloody inspiration 😇
one of the best youtube videos ive seen
