Jeff's just easily one of the best voices this planet's ever produced, male or female. So powerful, yet so delicate and tender, so much flexibility, yet his roars are like from a Lion. He's just a must have in any music collection and his loss could be the biggest loss of future music that we've ever seen. You see just how amazing Grace was, imagine the past 25 years worth of music we'd have if he hadn't of died.
I often think that myself. Imagine what he could've written if he'd lived?
Would have loved to have heard what he might have done with Kindertotenlieder ...
Had I scrolled down, I had seen that you already commented the same opinion, as I too think his death is the biggest tragedy in music of the past 30 years at least. The guy was one of a kind.
@@NeilBlanco I like to think he's entertaining the heavenly choir now because the angels just brought him on home.
I had never heard of him until about 2005 when I randomly discovered his version of hallelujah, being english he was pretty unheard of there. Wow, that was incredible, let's see what else he has done, found grace and it blew me away, dug deeper and then found out he had died nearly 10 years before. Was gutted. Felt odd being gutted about someone I had only just heard of being desd but I felt like it was such a tragic waste and what could have been
The last minute of the song is the greatest minute of any song ever in my opinion
This is your best reaction. I end up dead and dying on the floor by the time the songs over with laughter. I had the same reaction bro.
I saw a reaction to this once where the person spent half the video explaining that the way Jeff Buckley produced his vibrato was technically incorrect. I was like “Do you not have ears? I don’t care how he produces that sound!”
The whole album 'Grace' blows you away. Sublime.
When he drowned in '97 I was devastated, took a whole week to get out of that funk. Would have loved him to stick around, but at least he gifted us with grace/Grace.
A week, it took me 15 years.
@@aidanstewart8923I can relate to that, more accurate to say the first week was a massive, dark, devastated funk, after which it turned into a softer, sad, lamenting, 'the world's been so ripped off' funk.
Grace in in my top 5 all time best albums ever.
@@aidanstewart8923 I still have trouble with it...

We've never really seen anything like him before or after.
I can't listen to any of his songs without tears streaming. So much talent skill and pain, true master.
Same here. His talent was dripping with emotion even before his passing. Now it's just an absolute gut punch.
Un soir de 95, j'ai 22 ans et je regarde mon émission de télé préféré de l'époque et je tombe sur ça..... je m'en suis jamais vraiment remis
Jeff Buckley --- he was totally amazing. 💔
His cover of Hallelujah is beautiful, but doesn’t show off about 90% of his vocal ability. This style is more usual for Jeff Buckley than Hallelujah is. Can’t wait for you to react to his live version on Last Goodbye. He’s an absolute god.
The presenter at the end said : lord this is how angels sing then!" and that just sums it up
There are people who make music. They make the notes. The sounds.
And then there's people the music just flows through. It's not a technique, it's like channelling something... Letting it flow through. Jeff truly was something amazing and unique.
Part of me is still grieving for Jeff Buckley. As far as I'm concerned, his version of Halleluiah will never be bettered. He had so much more to offer.
Imo, Jeffs death is the biggest tragedy in the music industry at least the past 30 years - his talents were an unimaginably unique blend of excellent singing ability, guitar playing and great composition skills on top of that, and to think of what he could have released, had he lived past that unfortunate swimming accident.
"So Real" is another great track to experience.
him and Layne Staley
Welcome to magic world of Jeff Buckley
That was a spiritual experience. I was heartbroken when Jeff died.
jeff buckley left a masterpiece of work. After his passing, every artist wanted a drop of his singing & songwritting into their music.
Watching people react to hearing Jeff for the first time remains a favorite pastime, and this is the best yet. ❤️
just so glad Your finding him.....
what the journalist said at the end in french means : "That’s how angels sing in 1995"
Live in a TV study!
Jeff has always taken me somewhere with his performances.
You should've seen him live! It was one of the most spiritual shows I've ever attended. One of the all time greatest vocalists…❤
jeff is a god, one of the best voices of all times...
Mr Buckely sings like the rest of us mere mortals breathe.....another gifted but gone artist. Pure magical, talent.
I’d recommend taking a listen to the song “forget her” too. That one… well, it’ll break your heart and sew it back together in under 5 minutes.
On his recorded version of “Hallelujah”, he holds a note at the end for 24 seconds. I don’t know as a teenager how many times I tried to emulate that and never succeeded, and I used to be a competitive swimmer that could swim 2 laps of a 50m pool underwater. There was and will only ever be one Jeff Buckley. He showed most male singers today that it was ok to sing high. He may have passed on, but his legacy is as strong as Stevie Wonder’s or Prince or MJ
Oh! There’s an amazing episode of Malcolm Gladwell’s podcast “revisionist history” that explains how the song “hallelujah” became so very famous and, spoiler alert, it largely has to do with both the fact that Jeff Buckley performed it so unbelievably and that he died soon afterwards. It’s a great story all the way through though. Leonard Cohen put years of his heart and soul into working on that song, it didn’t find any commercial success until after Jeff.
Jeff made the song entirely his own; even Cohen acknowledged as much.
I had the pleasure of seeing Jeff play in a record store in Sydney back in 94/95. He sang this song and his voice seriously hit you to the core.
Waterfront ?
@Baheeya Saliba I’m assuming that you’re referring to Blockbuster Music? Would you happen to know if this performance was filmed?
@@MojoPin1983 yes it was! You got two tickets when you purchased the album. Not sure if it was filmed though
@@baheegha Besides Jane Cunningham’s televised interview with Jeff for ABC/Triple J, do you recall seeing any other footage of Jeff’s interviews/concerts in Australia?
@@MojoPin1983 czcams.com/video/o6hjRTmoudU/video.html
This is one of the best performances ever
Your face took me back to the 90s when I first heard him
All these years later..his voice still gives me chills. I’ve heard nothing like it since he left us. 💔
I love seeing people who understand vocal skill reacting to Jeff. I can't sing but I can understand the technicalities and the kind of talent in a voice like that. For me it's not just about his vocal skill (incredible as it was), but it's about his lyrical ability, his guitar skills and the way he could compose music to build up to such an incredible crescendo while matching the power of his voice. He did that a few times on that first album, and it's always amazing to hear. We really lost someone truly special when he passed.
Jeff rocks, there's a weird little song I remember of his called Lilac Wine, gets me in the feels every time.
Perfect reaction mate.
Liliac Wine isn't a song of "his" ';-)
@@jacobmorris3664 well, well - didn't know that.
It was written by James Shelton, an American Broadway actor, composer, and writer.
Respect
Jeff was like a lightning bolt or falling star, brilliant whilst he shone, but did not stay with us long. Remember when I first heard him. You must listen to his version of Hallelujah, probably the best rendition of that song
This is probably my favourite of the album.....
His father was a great singer too.
Tim Buckley, Jeff Buckley’s father, also had a magnificent voice.
Honestly...I felt the same way when I heard this song. The entire album is iconic...
Yes such a tragedy that he died after only the one earth shattering album. We can only mourn the loss of such a musical genius so young. ❤️🩹
Jeff died while floating in the Mississippi River. He had moved to Memphis to write his masterpiece, and one day him and a friend went down to the river under one of the bridges with a boom box to listen to music and clear their heads. Jeff was floating and his friend was on the bank. A barge was passing and the wake took Jeff under while his friend was turned around and couldn’t hear anything because the boom box was turned up. I am from Memphis and I was often downtown taking in the music scene as I had just turned 21 in 97. My memories of those days aren’t the clearest for many reasons, but I vaguely remember possibly seeing him perform at small bar one night.
@Bryan McNair If you saw Jeff, it would have been at Barristers.
@@MojoPin1983 I know I was there several times around ‘96 and ‘97, so I may have been there for one of his shows and not known how much more attention I should have paid to his performance.
other worldly. still adore after all these years.
I’ve been waiting for this day ! “ what the hell did I just hear”. Man you heard one of the greatest ever !
Love this reaction, don’t try to understand how he did it, he just did. RIP Jeff.
What the host says right after: "this is..everyone, how angels sing in 1995.
Biggest live music regret is not seeing him live when I had the chance. He was just such a rarety, as evidenced by your reaction!
I saw and met Jeff the month before he drowned in the river. Of course he had been living in a little rent house in Memphis, working on the material for his next studio album, and has started playing regularly at a total dive bar in downtown Memphis, testing out his new stuff, just him and his guitar. We got in there and had gone to sit in a balcony area (while some really horrible band was on stage before Jeff) to grab a drink. When I turned around to go back Jeff was literally standing in the doorway at the bottom of the stairs I would’ve had to go out of my way not to speak to him. He seemed a little nervous at first: he was a little guy, and I was already taller than him without heels, and he probably thought I was just hitting on him. I told him I wasn’t hitting on him I was there with my husband and a couple other friends to see him that we couldn’t wait for his next album etc. and invited him back to our table until time for him to go on stage. Honestly, the best thing about the whole incident was the look on their faces at my table when they saw who was with me coming back to sit with us!!! 😂
Then a little over a month later, the worst (and most bizarre) news, of Jeff missing and presumed dead in the Mississippi River. I’ve honestly never been more upset over the death of someone I didn’t even really know. That was a bad year (‘97) overall for me in terms of losing favorites: first losing him and then Michael Hutchence in November.
This is his best live performance on CZcams. My favourite artist, and his album Grace is still my favourite record since I bought it in ‘94. So much promise and so devastating he never fulfilled his full potential. Grace was an album successful artists of decades could only hope to make, and that was his first… imagine what more he could have achieved. At least we have the demos for what would have been his second album and the live performances. What a treasure; what a loss.
One of the best albums of all time. Just as the world was starting to catch on that this guy was something special he vanished.
For me his live performances of his song eternal life are where its at. Killed it every time
Listening to Jeff is always a spiritual event.
Blown away by that performance, wow!
More Jeff Buckley, please!! 😁😁
Basically my favourite live performance of all time.
Omg Jeff Buckley 🧡❤️💚🤍💜💙💛 I remember the first time I heard him - I couldn’t breathe
So beautiful for doing this
Thank you - watching your reaction now
Jeff is Simply Brilliant. You sing amazing 😊
Dude, this guy is the best of all time right. The BOAT
Jeff is magic. ✨✨
There is no dictionary definition to describe Jeff Buckleys voice... But you expressed it well. Much love 🇬🇧♥️🇬🇧♥️
His father was a singer too (Tim Buckley)
Very different. Tim’s folky/hippy singing is good in its own right but you almost can’t even bring him up when talking about Jeff
Jeff was amazing! That voice is just insane. ❤️
Perfect reaction to Jeff Buckley. Looked like you were having a spiritual experience like so many of us have listening to Jeff. I believe he went missing in the waters of the Mississippi never to return. RIP Jeff.
Correct, he was having a paddle and a boat went by, the wake dragged him under and he drowned.
Try “Lover, you should have come over”.
The lyrics are beautiful.
She is the tear that hangs inside my soul forever….
Ohhh, the heartbreak.
My favourite lyrics ever.
He has already done LYSOCO, about 12 months ago
Looks like we'll be seeing more Jeff Buckley on the channel 😁 I'm here for it 👍
Loved this reaction. I was the same when I first heard this album. I was 19 at the time and I knew JB was something special. It’s prob one of my favourite albums to date.
I've watched so many of your videos, and I think this is your best reaction. I'm not surprised though, Jeff Buckley is a vocal genius.
One of the greatest voices/songwriters/guitarists that has ever lived. His Live in Chicago concert is just brilliant in every way. Peace... ✌
Every time I see someone react to this I feel I’m equally as psyched as if hearing it for the first time myself. And then the fact that this man is no longer is with us makes me so sad all over again. Long time fan of Jeff Buckley. Thank you so much for your phenomenal reaction. “Can I learn from this” warmed my heart. 🥰
Jeff is my all time favorite vocalist. the things he dose with his voice is unbelievable. I love watching your first reactions to him, makes me happy and laugh so much. I've been listening to his music for my entire life it seems, and i can't stop ha. Should listen to him covering Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan sometime, very enjoyable.
I remember the exact time I first heard his voice. I was getting ready for class, I was in college, had mtv2 playing in the background and had to run into the room to see who in the world that was. He remains my favorite singer to this day. The only other person in ALL this time I've found has comparable skill is Matt Corby.
Jeff live is a spiritual experience.
On a side note. He is one of Matt Corby's biggest musical influences!
His voice breaks me down everytime. Just think of what made this guy tick, what was burning inside of him, that could make him sing like that. I can't listen to this album anymore unless I'm alone and can't feel embarrassed. That we lost someone like him, so young. He was too good for this place. Gets me every time.
Jeff was not of this Earth....we, sadly, were blessed with his presence for only a short time, but none of us will forget that....ever. "Lover you should've come over" or "Hallelujah" next
Probably my favorite vocalist of all time. He has inspired me a lot. Glad you enjoyed him so much!
I knew him back in NYC and was able to see him perform many times. I was at the first of the two nights he recorded at Sine on St Marks in east village. Watching your reaction made me appreciate him and his voice all over again. I still remember the night I found out he was missing and presumed drowned in Memphis. RIP JB
@immersion24 Assuming that your story is true, do you know if anyone filmed either or those shows, or any other shows at Sin-e? I know that Merri Cyr filmed Jeff there on 31 December 1994, and Denise Jalbert filmed him there, along with Dorothy Scott, sometime in ‘94 or ‘95.
@@MojoPin1983 Not sure why I would make up a story of knowing him. I guess people do that which is bizarre to me. Merri Cyr is the only person I remember seeing film him at Sine and I don't remember if anyone filmed the nights he was recording there . I do remember that the crowd was overflowing out the door those nights which was a disappointing because the days of just a few people watching him on Monday night were over.
@@immersion24 When I encounter stories of people claiming to have known, or seen, Jeff, I’d like to believe them (I’m not saying that you’re lying), but I have come across several people whose stories I was able to falsify, when I researched their claims, and questioned certain people that they mentioned, who denied the validity of said claims.
When did you see Merri film Jeff at Sin-e; at that New Year’s Eve show that I mentioned?
@@MojoPin1983 I rarely share anything personal on youtube but made an exception because of this reaction to Jeff. I remember seeing a woman with a camera filming Jeff at SIn-e sometime in the mid 90's and was told who she was. It's been over 25 years so my memory of some of those details aren't great but many of the ones about Jeff are crystal clear. I studied under one of Jeff's managers whose name is George Stein. He invited our class down to see Jeff perform at Sin-e but I think I was the only one from our class who showed up. At some point Jeff came to the class George was teaching. It was a music business course at NYU and I think George wanted Jeff to learn about music label contracts. I also ran into Jeff several times over those mid 90's in NYC as I went to as many shows of his as I could and as it turned out we both lived a block or two apart on E12th street. Like I said, I don't understand people who make things up about meeting people they didn't actually meet. I have more memories of Jeff but I'm not going to share any more here. I just really enjoy seeing people discover him and appreciate him here on youtube.
@@immersion24 It’s possible that the person you’re referring to is Denise Jalbert. She filmed Jeff at Sin-e and the Knitting Factory, and maybe other places, as well. Unfortunately, she is impossible to get in contact with. Perhaps, if you go to her website and click on the ‘About’ section, her photo will refresh your memory. I’d love to see her footage, but she seems to be pretty reclusive and unwilling to talk, unfortunately.
It depresses me how most kids these days will never hear this
You got Buckley’d
still the best voice ive ever heard, just power, range... already known as that, before he died. would of been known worldwide.....
I threw everything out the window. 🔥☮️💜
That's just a taste of what Jeff could do. Watch more.
He used to sell out whenever he played
There is a wonderful live album
He is in my top 2 of all time singers
I know the shit copyright algorithm demands this but it's a crime to pause a Jeff Buckley song everytime :(( Listening to his songs for the first time it's something you need to just let happen. You only have to listen to the angel whose ephemeral presence was a privilege for all of us. Greetings.
Jeff haunted me when he was still here. And that's on God.
I knew you were gonna go wild for this one. This is one of my fave live performances of this song too
You react the exact same way as I do every time im laughing my ass off. Hes the best in the game and always will be
Page and Plant in the same body. That guy could play too. Count how long he hit that last note too. Always amazing no matter how much time has passed. And he was really playing guitar too.
I have this album, it is beautiful music.
I love it so much when you tell us to just relax while you're "trailing off, here", gets me every time :'D
his vocal at the end is almost.. supernatural.
C
This is why I always say it’s clear Jeff is a huge inspiration to iMatt Corby. They have vastly different instruments, but that propensity to switch between different vocal timbres with ease and frequency, the build in intensity and the vocal flexibility all feel like such an homage to growing up hearing Jeff, whose album Grace was very beloved in Australia.
Haaaa quel souvenir fabuleux.
Godlike.
Nice react! Buckley fan, and this is first time hearing/seeing this live performance. His voice is one of the most dexterous, beautiful and haunting. If you like his high head notes you've gotta give his rendition of Chorpus Christi Carol a listen.
Jeff Buckley had the "so naturally good it's scary" like Freddie Mercury had.
Further proof that the human voice is the most flexible, incredibly beautiful and unique gift we humans have been given. If Heaven exists, (and I’m counting on it) I really hope we all get to see him perform again. Imagine the headliners in a concert in Heaven ❤
You should check out his live version of “The Way Young Lovers Do”. It was originally a Van Morrison song….but Jeff’s version is 10 minutes long with just him and a guitar….he will melt your face, lol 👍
And that was live. F***ING sublime.
His dad, Tim Buckley, was a folk singer in the 60s/70s.he had a brilliant song called Wayfaring Stranger
Really excellent analysis and enjoyed your reaction to this amazing performance by arguably the most talented and transcendent male rock vocalist
There's plenty of his live intimate performances when he was promoting Grace on you-tube that show his phenomenal talent that is definitely worth a look if you're not familiar with him.
There's so much Greek tragedy around his life, it may be worth listening to his deadbeat father Tim Buckley a 60sw folk singer who died young as well (Sweet Surrender would be his most recognizable)
I’m not Afraid to die without voice
You should check Jeff Buckley Dream brother live at Glastonbury..... Jeff Buckley was unique. I saw him in 95 and everybody in the crowd had the same reaction you just have in your video.
This is the best reaction video I have ever seen. Thank you for the presence and authenticity 💚🙏 it was amazing to watch you hear this for the first time
