    The only thing I'd like to add is this: if your carseat base has an actual strap that goes across the car seat base to hook onto the lower latch anchors DO NOT also use the seat belt! The majority of carseats have a latch strap not the 2 latches on the side of the seats like this Nuna. Using both a latch strap & a seatbelt can put too much pressure on the base in a crash causing the base to break.

      Nuna Pipa series is the only exception to the one or other rule, and it's ONLY for the Pipa series; their other seats state one or the other. However, Nuna states in their Pipa series manuals that the recommended install is using the seatbelt only. The comment, "we like to be extra safe" had me cringing too and can be taken out of context putting nonNuna Pipa users at risk! I have the same car as this gentleman and couldn't get a proper install using the anchors, so I'm seatbelt all the way.

    CPST here. The Nuna Pipa DOES allow for Lower Anchors, AND the Seatbelt to be used, HOWEVER, your car has to allow it as well. It is ALWAYS best to just use one method, unless you are 100% sure your vehicle allows it as well. It was plenty snug with just the lower anchors. You just need it to move an inch or less

  • @stripeybeast
    @stripeybeast Před 2 lety +5

    I have two Chicco car seats and recently got this one. I have to say, after installing it for the first time, the Pipa Lite is so unnecessarily complicated with seemingly little to no functional reason. The Chicco seats are extremely easy to install and have few moving parts - very intuitive. What the Chicco accomplishes elegantly with wedge slots and belt anchors, the Pipa seems to have over engineered with little thought of the user.

    As a certified tech I’ve never heard of installing both latch and belt, but if the manual says it’s okay then I would follow that but It is typically one or the other. Also when he installs the belt in this video he does not pull it all the way out which is necessary to lock it. Also the base is not level when he is done with the install and from my experience it is very hard to get this base level using the latch especially in a luxury vehicle. I had to use pool noodles to get a better level.

      To check to see if your PIPA™ car seat’s “wiggle room” is secure, hold the PIPA™ base at the side area closest to the vehicle at the seat crease and move left to right. There should be no more than one inch of motion from left to right where the base is connected to the LATCH or belt pathway. The other side closest to the driver seat or passenger seat can have movement and that is normal. Thank you!
      Sounds vertical movement from leg direction is expected behavior though I also think this movement is scaring.

    This installation video was great however, I understand the lower leg is used to prevent the car seat from angling towards the front of the car but what is preventing the base/seat to lift towards the back of the car/baby's feet? There is nothing keeping the "head" of the carseat/base secure to the seat...it can be easily lifted off the seat from that side... am I missing something?

    • @cloudedcolour5329
      @cloudedcolour5329 Před 4 měsíci

    • @jazzcruz9473
      @jazzcruz9473 Před 5 lety +8

      Seating position is by preference. In most vehicles the center seat is not an approved lower anchor position. Most car seats also do not allow borrowing lower anchors of the outboard seats when performing a center seat install. One big mistake shown in this video is installing with both LA attachments and seat belt. It does not provide more stability (that is a myth) and car seats are not crash tested using both methods. This is a common misuse. Use one method or the other.

    • @SF-pe3qf
      @SF-pe3qf Před 5 lety +3

      Trista Ulate a safe install is more important than position in the car. A seat correctly installed on the side is much safer than a seat in the middle that is not installed/used correctly. Because some of the Pipa’s main safety features aren’t always usable in a middle seat (the load leg does not fit in some cars with a middle floor hump, and the rigid latch would not be usable unless the middle seat has its own dedicated set of lower anchors). I would personally choose to utilize the excellent safety features of this car seat and install it outboard if needed rather than skipping these features and installing it in the middle. If you’re set on a middle install then there are other, much cheaper car seats I would choose over this one.

      Is it OK to install the base with both the vehicle seat belt and the lower rigid anchors (LATCH)?
      Yes. Installing with both is OK-but it does not improve the performance of the installation. We have done additional crash testing to make sure that both methods are safe- even when used together.

    OMG. I am so glad I kept watching because I was about to share the video after you showed the green light on the stability leg and then caught you also installing the seat belt. You should NEVER EVER under any circumstances install any car seat or base with both the latch and seat belt. I know it seems like it would be safer in theory to have both, but research has shown its actually NOT safe to install a car seat using both latch and seat belt. One or the other. This seat installed with the latch and stability leg is extremely safe. As you showed, the base wasnt moving anywhere after the latch was correctly installed. Please Please Please remove the seat belt from the base for the child riding in the seats safety!

      I have the Pipa Lite LX and it does say that it is acceptable to use both HOWEVER, I have read a lot of research that suggests that using both does not allow proper protection due to the way the latch or seatbelt fails to catch during a wreck when both are used. I would use one or the other but not both. Better safe than sorry. Just google using both latch and belt, you'll find all the resources to make your own decision. Happy parenting :)

      I have spoke to the rep from Nuna several times at various car seat conferences. Although the manual says it is ok to do both, the main reason that is there is because there know caregivers are already doing it and that have designed the seat to accommodate that misuse. The problem with showing this misuse is that people will think it’s ok to do with other brands as well. I would put a footnote in this video saying this method is noted in the manual but not required so that others are not misled.
