    Oh so you can connect an MacBook Air to a 4K display ! Wow this is good because the MacBook Air doesn’t have the best display for colour grading now I got a solution . thanks great video

      Hi Shane, I'm connecting my Air to an external monitor similar to your via an HDMI cable. I get to see the desktop on the big screen but I can't see the applications as I open them. Am I missing something? Thanks

      @@ronin120 you can use separate ones. You just need to connect them to the MacBook air via bluetooth or dongles (which may require additional hub due to limited usb I/O)

    Appreciate the video, I was not aware that I had a Thunderbolt port. My MacBook Pro dies this weekend, so I am using my MacBook Air and needed to connect to my monitor, I purchased a USB to HDMI cable and it simply does not recognise the Monitor, more wasted money, but I will try the Thunderbolt connection option. Thanks for the tutorial.

    There is a important issue that the font in your 4k will be so small, my suggestion is you choose 1920x1080 as your resolution and the mac system will use their built in technology to make the pictures more accurate.

    I have the same macbook and a Ilyama montior that can run 75hz and is qhd. However, when looking for example at CZcams videos, it's lagging a bit in QHD. How?

    quick question: does it work BEFORE I login? my screen is broken and it run out of battery. I cannot see anything, and it it's not working when I plug it on the TV =/ I guess I have to login first the video works?

    I need to learn how to have the external monitor being able to have something different on it than the Macbook.....mainly I want and need to be using a mouse for Trading the markets and being able to move around the screen quickly and clicking on different options within the charts. Was hoping I did not need to buy a desktop PC for doing this.

    Your video was helpful but my Dell display shows Entering Power saving mode after it has been hooked up to my 2020 MacBook air M1. When I open display under System Preferences, It shows my MacBook Air. There is a drop down to Add a Display but the only option is Apple TV. I successfully used this Dell with my early 2013 MacBook Pro that I am retiring for a number of years. Actually when I first hooked up the Dell to my MacBook Air with an HDMI Connection it did work but stopped working. I don't know why. Any help will greatly be appreciated.

    how can you ensure that you get the picture of the windows pc and also the os operating system of the windows pc
    that you get a mac book with windows extern monitor. windows windows actually the other way around.

    Hi, I have a question. my MacBook air is also a 2017 model and when I connect a 4k LG monitor to this, this shows me only 47-inch (1024 x 768) resolution and it doesn't work properly. I am connecting the monitor via VGA cable to a mini display port. Any help would be appreciated. thanks

    By doing this with my mac book air if i buy a wireless keyboard it essentially will work as a desktop? Im basically after more screen space to allow me to view several windows without them being too small.

    I use macpro and connect to my benq zowie xl 2740. I try connect with usbc to hdmi and hdmi to monitor. Max refresh i can choose is 60hz. The monitor support 240hz what is wrong and what should i do

      It may be dependant on the mac being able to handle those refresh rates. Is there nowhere in the settings on the MacBook you can adjust the refresh rate output?

    I tried doing this with an lg 4k monitor with my macbook. The macbook recognizes the display in the display preferences but the lg monitor isnt getting a video signal. Is there any fix to this? I have a 2014 macbook air btw.

    Nice tutorial, same way I tried it is not capable of providing 60hz out put. Sometimes I felt uncomfortable

      If the newer version has the same port on it, it will otherwise you'll need a USB-C to HDMI connector.

    I'm not a Mac person. Did this with a 2015 MacBook Pro (retina) for a friend. The external display is a Dell U2719D, it works image wise, but user says text is pixelated, in Adobe CC apps. Any thoughts?

    Does it need to be plugged in always to a power source to be able to use it in clamshell mode? Will it affect the battery of macbook air 2017?

      I think there’s a way to use clamshell mode without the power source. it is an app, I don’t remember the name.

      Yes, you just need to make sure you can change what the computer does with the lid closed in settings.

    It was great and simply explained, but I have a question.
    If I connect 1920x1080 external monitor with my mac air the same one which you have (1440x900), and use screen capture software to capture my screen then will it capture 1920x1080 or it will continue capturing old 1440x900 resolution?
    Please reply I can't find this anywhere, and i teach c++ programming and quality is very important factor for me.

      You can use the monitor as a second display or just mirror it, if you choose to use it as a second display you can change the distribution.

      This video is a bit old now so you'll need a USB-C to display port adaptor or a USB to HDMI adapter.

      I am not sure you can connect two monitors to a mac book air unless there's some sort of special adaptor for it.
