Just turned 18 and realized that I can finally use the "Open chat" feature in this game, which allows you too say anything you want. Now I can ball out in the commons with my big boy words, and say numbers.
I started playing before I was 13, so now that I'm turning 18 in less than 3 months I don't get access to that and it sucks hardcore lmao

When i was in 3rd grade, some of the kids managed to convince the teacher wizard 101 was a reading/learning game. 😂 We got to play it in computer class when we were supposed to be learning.

I think crowns are connected the account though, not the character, so as long as it didn't delete the account you should still have the crowns, unless you meant something else. But F

Can confirm, went back to it after 2 years because i missed the card battles. In all the games I've ever played, I've never found one with the same style as Wizard101. The nostalgia was fantastic. Even after all this time, the game still holds up!

Back in 2011 I got on for a month and just killed pumpkin heads in haunted cave, because I wasn't paying that. Paid for membership, 10 yrs later, maxed out my wizards and can never stay away from the game more than a few months.
Paying to play at all - when I was a kid, parent said NOPE when I tried because it wanted a credit card
There are actually still commercials for Wizard 101 at Gamestop believe or not! I currently work at one, and W101 will regularly come in and out of the commercial rotations on our display screens, and it’s fascinating. The last one I saw was a few months ago (~March 2022) and it was the one with the witch and wizard fighting Malistare from like ten years ago (the animation for which surprisingly still holds up).
The equipments prepaid cards are also still around and are regularly updated and switched out. I think a candy themed one came out about a month or too ago that I have my eyes on ngl. 👀
I’m also a regular player now thanks to a couple friends who also played as a kid. We got talking and decided to make group to play the game together and now we get together on discord once a week to play. It’s made a childhood dream of mine come true to play this silly MMO with a couple of friends who also enjoy it. And now that I have adult money that I can use to spend on anything I want, I’ve got a fancy car mount from the crowns store.

I had a professor in college that was actually a character designer for Kingsisle, and worked on both Wizard and Pirate 101. He showed us some of his concept art that he developed for the game and also shared art for a scrapped sequel called Hero/Spy 101. Pretty neat stuff.

I never actually stopped playing Wizard101. There's been a boom of activity lately because of the quarantine, but even before then it was still fairly active. They're adding new stuff and updating the game even in 2020.

I've been playing Wizard 101 on and off for over ten years. It's a great time killer that doesn't make you want to punch a hole in your screen (until you get to the new highest level dungeons, those are stressful). There is a LOT to do in this game, overall the biggest game of my childhood, and very fun to run with your wizards for years. :) The beginning 20 levels are pretty standard, but after that, you get a lot more to work with in battle!

Ah Wizard101, so much nostalgia. Even when I stopped playing for a decade, I still kept flashing back to it (I really liked the idea of its magic schools and select worlds in the game) and recently picked it up again. It really is a tedious grind, but charming in its own way.

@@foxysobek8109 He's talking about how the paywall starts too early. Half of wizard city is blocked off to you unless you pay for membership. The first half doesn't give you much, only half an hour. All of Wizard City will give you about 2-3 hours of content, good enough to make a decision on whether or not you want to continue the story by paying for membership.
That's a constant gripe within the community, and at times they *have* done that, but only on a select few weekends.
Yeah it really needs to be opened up though before you hit the paywall. Something right up to before the last dungeon of Marleybone/dog world might be great, similar to the FFXIV approach of giving you a lot of content to let you go through before they make decide on whether or not you want to pay.

KingsIsle is of the utmost incredible absurdity when i comes to paywalls, they dont listen to the audience(unless is something else not including less money for them or something that gives them more money) they have turned a child game into a kinder ripoff. compared to all the worlds they have, i can not process through my mind that they have the balls to not gives the first world free. COME ON HOW MANY WORLDS THERE ARE? THERE ARE MORE THAN 10, if i remember correctly 10 would be half, or really close to it. Not even the tutorial world, NOT EVEN. I remember this game had a glitch where rental items (where you'd buy the item, and you only keep it for an hour or so,) could be given an unlimited amount of rental time just by changing your PC clock. So if you buy an item and move your clock an a year in the past, you'd have the item for a year.
Me and my sister felt pretty proud of our selves when we figured that out and started flying around on our rare mounts.

Also the mini game cheats with the (forgot the name of the software), where you played doodle Doug, you punched in file numbers in the software and you just watch him dig, would give you mad gold. Good days, now I have purchased everything in crowns no membership or sub, took me about 400€, no regrets

Just a couple years ago, (about the time this video happened) a buddy of mine started dating somebody who never stopped. To an almost weird level...
She had several accounts, and would party up with herself because she was just that obsessed with it.
It's a fun game, but I cannot imagine it being that engaging.

At the moment they're working at completely overhauling the game, they even completely changed the beginning tutorials, plus the pet system is getting reworked. I'd say now is the best time to either start or resume playing

Its going to be another decade before the game gets a full graphic update at the rate they’re going. And the pet “update” was just hated by the entire community because it made the grinding for gold to make pets even more tedious.
Too bad I made my account when I was 6 and I’m a balance wizard that has so many side quest I don’t know what my main quest is and I didn’t know clothes give you things so I just bought all the low level stuff when I was 8 just because it looked nice and I don’t have anymore money to get anything else

If you are smart it can be free. You can earn a set amount of crowns by completing quizzes, and you can enable an option to watch videos to get free crowns too.

All I remember about this game is that my laptop could /barely/ run it but it could play any other flash game and even Gaia Online which was a little intensive just fine.

@@itsjetty5163 Totally correct! They have major updates twice a year but they update, patch and add bits and pieces every week. There are regular events at no extra cost and packs/crown items added for those who want the latest pets/mounts etc. The KI team are very active, as is the game. :)

Wizard101 has a fun and fantastic digital card game at its core. I was a F2P Wizard for more than a year and during that entire time after spending a few hours completing all of the story I would log on every day to farm the Harvest Lord for gold and mats to buy the best (and best looking) equipment/pets for my level, as well as some of the awesome higher-level Treasure cards to surprise opponents with in the Dueling arenas.
On my Sorcerer, I used to rule the arena (It was a different time, now every low-level character has 50 treasure cards of Shadow Magic or wtf ever) purely because I had somehow figured out how to predict based on pips what amount of damage my opponent could or couldn't do in the space of any particular round and make informed, calculated risks based on that prediction. 9/10 times I was bang on and I won every game where my opponent was within 3 levels of me and didn't have high-level treasure cards or pay-to-win equipment from the store. I even beat a level 22 once as a level 12. For some reason Balance was just a monster (at the time) at maintaining the perfect balance between defense and offense, so I could outplay basically everyone on a consistent basis. It was honestly one of the most fun times I had playing an MMO, and to me the world of Wizard 101 beats out Harry Potter by a million miles because of it.
Despite being an MMORPG I genuinely loved the lore drops as a kid when I ran into the pay wall and just made a new character. Like the first prophetic vision a fire waizard has about the Titan dragon and malisteir or whatever his name was had me fucking shaking and genuinely fearful as a kid.
My only memory of this game was one of my DeviantArt “sisters” asked me to draw her Wiazard101 Avatars as Sonic OC’s... I had a troubled childhood...

The first MMO I've ever played... loved it and spent hours despite never passing the free trial part. Thinking of reinstalling it just for nostalgia's sake (found my old account details when I thought I'd lost them, phew!) but the membership is indeed quite cheap...
Still play this game with my kid sister. She is 16 im 31. We always make time to play at least twice a week for a couple hours. This gane really helped our relationship. She is a lot easier to talk to while casting helaphant at way too early level because of the flashing dragon spear. That thing is OP early game. 😂 But this is a great game to bond with younger siblings to open up a little bit without it feeling forced so thank you Wizard 101. Althoygh i could do without the gambling for kids still thank you for the awesome worlds and hours spent raining down holy fire on the streets of Marleybone and the peaks of dragonspire. Good spellcasting wizards and may you spells never fizzle.

The hard part is mostly living through without an aoe. You dont get one till level 58. After that its kinda chill. It just takes a bit of pips.

I recently jumped back into this game and holy crap is the new score good. It still holds the nostalgia of the older days, but as someone who never got to hear the theme to Krokotopia (thank you paywall), hearing that new remix sparks joy in my soul.
Also, for those who don't know, WIZARD CITY AND KROKOTOPIA ARE FREE UNTIL THE END OF SEPTEMBER. My childhood self would have KILLED for this.

I'm a pyromancer but I spent most if not all my training points getting all the life spells in Ravenwood. Might not have much for damage but dammit if life spells (and wizards) aren't handy as shit when a fight's going sideways.
I revisited this game recently. Good times. The monotony of the battle system got old after a while but it still has charm- like how they wont let you type out numbers as though they're swear words and everyone uses similar sounding words to communicate levels and damage stats

I still see banner ads on the strangest of websites but the game doesn't seem to be dead by any metric. The player count is still decent, it is still being updated, just sitting as a little time chamber for nostalgia.

@@gaianexv2109 A lot of the lore, I realize now, deals with the theme of love: how love can can be overpowering like for Malistaire, or how it could literally make and break the spiral, as seen in the end of Empyrea. Raven and Spider created the girl who's name I now don't remember as a vessel of hope and unity between life and death, only for the chains that hold the worlds together (the Polaris intro) to be in jeopardy. Well, I'd love to hear how that goes for you. This thread'll be open and I'm sorry for ranting, it's just too much.

I’ve been playing this game since I was in year 2(so about 10 years) and after coming back to it recently in adulthood I can still say this game still friken slaps. I’ve never had so much fun grinding away on this game after work as I have with this game. I’m sure this game will bring me joy for many years to come
I played this game since 2011. It is only since last summer, at the age of 19, that I actually figured out how to play this game properly. I'm hooked, now that I don't suck ass
I remember playing this game all the time back in 2011-2015, and man was it fun.
All I ever did was roleplay, lol. My highest level was a level 30 death wizard. (The majority of the exp was from fighting the kraken)
