Totally getting this truck in 10 years😂
We are excited to put this truck to the test!
It's going to Africa?
love the truck i have a 97 4runner my biggest problem is that they Toyota is not having a diesel option in the us and im not alown on this ether
Yup planning to swap a D4D from DieselToyz into my dad’s 2017 SR 4x2 4-cylinder DCSB then get it converted to 4x4.
I can't wait to see you pull one of these trucks in your shop and take off all the Trail Hunter stuff to put on Icon & CBI 😂
@@brianh5393 Had the same thought- Icon? Though a CBI front bumper will definitely be a must have.
Just an amazing truck and amazing video editing. You made me dream for a new Tacoma. Thank you for that.
Awesome thanks! Clay-
I debated getting this or getting a 2023, ultimately, I went with a 2023, it’s proven and almost all the growing pains bugs ironed out.. I’m still not sold on the 4 cylinder turbo, and it’s a first year model.. hopefully the trail hunter is popular in 3 years. I believe 3 years is a good amount of time for problems to get identified and solved.
Never buy the first year but low boost factory turbos are here to stay. They've proven to reliably last for hundreds of thousands of miles now in the vehicles that pioneered them in the last half decade.
Just throw a Magnuson & a tune on yours and you won't ever envy the new gen Tacos.
Toyota all the way.....
4 cylinder turbo on a 2.4L engine is guaranteed to have turbo failing at 150k miles and potentially burnt valves/ruined engine soon after. Lots of pros on this trim level sad to see they ruined it with the engine
Great to see a nice Hybrid pickup & looks good. Hopefully we can get them in Europe. Looks good. And this version "trailhunter" would be awesome!
This new Tacoma is freaking amazing. Wow.
I need to see the 4Runner !!!!!
Same here!!
What I love about the new designs for the Tundra and Tacoma is that they’re sleek while maintaining there rugged look. It’s like futuristic but has personality.
WOW...gorgeous!!! Thank you in advance for the cool dreams I'm going to have tonight!
Nice meeting you earlier today at West. Great new truck from Toyota even in the rain, ha ha! Have a safe trip back to Montana. Tom
I love that Tacoma , here in South Africa we have the HILUX another love .Epic cant wait for the X Overland Africa .Chilling Cape Town
Literally got all boxes checked...straight outta factory...can't get better than this..
100%
No front locker, 35s would be great, and lower towing than the competition. Yes it can be better.
@@therealjohnsmith4811 you’ll never use a front locker goofball.
@@hstone-kf7su Well, you clearly don’t know real off-roading then goofball.
I work for Toyota. I’m very excited about this. I’m saving to buy one. Looks amazing
How much do you think this trim will cost?
@jeremyvang I believe car and driver estimates 48k but I have a hard time believing that
the dream truck
Amazing!
Can it fit 35's?
Here we go!
🇺🇸 Clay... I can't wait for you guys to put it on your adventures! Africa, India, Asia! Toyota needs a X Overland trim... design by your team!
Doesn’t matter what you drive, ya have to admit, thats a beautiful truck. Even the straight up Tacoma looks beautiful... (a regular one if you will).
This is going to be the best trip ever! The Tacoma Trailhunter taking on the African trails? Epic! I am so excited to see you guys heading to Africa. Bring it on!!!! Hope you have plans to visit Uganda, for the source of the Nile!
Will be interesting to see all the after-market stuff for this. Even Toyota's partnership program for modularity has me intrigued.
Love the position of exhaust exit. Have always been fond of 4 cyl motors , great to see Toyota amalgamate with Old Man Emu and ARB, obviously quality products. Locking safe in center console is a nifty idea and the full suspension seats are pretty slick. Hopefully they’ll provide an option without sunroof ! Nice placement of front sensor, you can’t see the three shark fins on roof because of roof rack here but being able to integrate with a Bluetooth camera on back of trailer will make visibility so much greater , integrated trailer brakes, man this has so much going for it and yes some of new models have manual or aisin 8 speed automatic and this model can be had in 6 foot bed, roll on January 2024 !!
Serious question, why are 4 cylinders better versus 6 for overlanding
It's way to long. An access cab Trail Hunter with the 6 foot bed would be much more useful off road.
@@Clifton_McWilliamsGAS
@@Broken-Nationlol…the V6 platforms in trucks almost always get better mileage than the 4 cylinders.
Definitely my next truck
Do I smell perfection in the air with this one, or did Toyota just bring back a updated Version of the 22RE/T woot woot.
Nice rig from the factory, but is there a way to integrate a winch into the front bumper? That’s the only thing it’s missing.
Question is would ur team get a trd4x4 , trd pro, or the trail hunter the tundra u guys got was a trd4x4 with classy city style the sequoia was a trd pro ? So which one would u grab
Wonder how seamless the transition from electric to gas is in lower gear driving? I have a hybrid suv and at a stope sign up a hill it stutters.
Love it
For everyone saying “eww, a 4-cylinder”… I agree for the most part. However, this is the future. Government says everyone cut back, or fines. Companies say they wanna get good with saving the planet, etc… Here we are.
Everything will begin to “downgrade” to 4’s, hybrids, etc. The 6’s people wish would stay in certain vehicles, won’t be coming back.
I love big engines, but have to accept this is where we are going. However, for the new Tacoma, I think it fits.
Wow that’s amazing. Good for toyota
It looks awesome.
I wonder if the new 4runner will have a TRD Trail Hunter edition.
Very impressive pick up truck. Can we still get the V6 with manual transmission?
Oh man. I've been trying to figure out what the next step up is from a Duramax Colorado and have seriously considered a Silverado ZR2 Bison or Tundra. But I'm not sure I really want or need a full size truck. This may be "the one" - especially since it has a 6ft bed option. I can hardly wait to see one up close and hopefully drive it. The next issue will be how hard it will be to actually get one. Thanks for the sneak preview.
Would be nice to a diesel engine in this Tacoma.
i work at a chevy dealership and i wont by a GM. See to many new trucks come in with low milage. in 2025 gonna order one of these
So i seen the payload went up and towing go down. How does that benefit or hinder how you guys overland?
All this sounds extraordinary, yet I’m curious to know if Toyota moved the alternator to a dry location at the top of the engine?
Does it come in manual with a V6?
New question “will my Tacoma fit 35s?”
This truck has everything I’d add to my Tacoma aftermarket but it’s stock 😍
Sold my 3rd Gen, waiting on release date!
Watching from Philippines, Great Truck, All New Toyota TACOMA, QDR Champion, we only have here Toyota HILUX,
ilovethis car,
Nice Video
Be happy you have a diesel engine. We don't have that option.
Looks a fantastic bit of kit, sadly we won't get it in the UK
I like it 👍
I wonder if they also have a trailhunter version of the tundra in the works... That would be awesome for us that use the truck to tow campers and would like to stay at the 1/2 ton size. This taco looks phenomenal.
That’s how they announced trailhunter at SEMA
God I hope that this eventually comes to Australia. Would be my next choice for sure.
Heard something like the bed cargo rails are removable and can be adapted to a different part of the truck what are they talking about?
Wow thanks for sharing! Clay can you please tell us who makes the suspension? All you mentioned was 2.5”. Same for the factory installed bumpers. Thanks again!
Toyota teamed up with ARB. ARB rear bumper and what looks to be Old Man Emu B51 suspension.
@@rockwidit5835 yes thanks i know. Just would’ve liked to se if Clay was allowed to actually say or write ARB. 👍🏻
This is an amazing truck
Cant wait for the next gen LC Prado/4Runner/GX
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
What is the dumb metal triangles behind the cab?
So should i get the pro or trail hunter?
So, I wonder how hard it will be to get one and how much the old “dealer mark up” is going to be?
They went four link rear !!!
That front end will have to come off for a winch, tow hooks, and legit off road lights attached to a serious bumper. Same for the rear.
Doesn't this model have a front sway bar disconnect too ?
Love the the body and interior, but the drive train still has to prove its self as far as reliability.
Fair!
Lol toyota has been doing turbo for a while now 😂😂😂😂.
Yeah…doesn’t mean it’s reliable. Tundra had some issues with the wastegate for its turbos, so hopefully there’s not a repeat of that. Tacoma trail hunter looks pretty sweet though.
Nice Truck. When is it available in Canada?
According to dealers I've talked to regarding ordering a Trailhunter or Tacoma in general with options put on from the factory so you can roll into your monthy payment and get what you want, there's no custom order option for the Tacomas. I've watched and listened to other podcast and videos where Toyota Spoke persons, influencers, interviewers, reviewers say you can but not according to the place you actually purchase them.
Yay! They finally did away with the drum brakes!
I wonder if Toyota will also have a Trail Hunter model for the new 4Runner lineup??? If so I would be tempted to sale my new Bronco for it.
I came over to your booth at Overland Expo West but you guys were so busy that I didn't want to bother so I just admired all the imagery and rigs you had on display. I loved how you guys put together the shipping containers. Hope to see you at Overland Expo PNW. Safe travels!
That's sweet! It's probably almost as good as a Gladiator offroad, maybe like one of the lower trims...
It's a fancier looking tacoma for sure.. no front locker??
Manual transfer case?
The Trailhunter is my favorite spec of the 2024 Tacoma.
I've got a GMC Canyon Edition 1 on order for $67k. I'm having a tough time deciding if I want to keep that or wait for this (I have a feeling the Trailhunter will be more than $67k). I test drove the Tundra, and I found the "tech" still dated compared to what the GMC has.
I’m sold. Now I need to trim my Toyota here to accommodate this one
I can’t decide now between the Zr2 and ranger raptor 😢 I love taco but I. Also loved the zr2 and the raptor
I'd love for one of you Overland teams to keep one of these Stock, and put it throug the same stuff the modded TRD's and Pro's go through
Then how would they get paid from their other sponsors
@@cmc9823 excellent point! Haha dang
Yes, sir, I like that me. Time trade in the Tundra for one. Looks like they fix the upper ball joints.
No front locker? Next caller, you’re off the air. Next up we have the all new ZR2 Bison on the line with front locker and 35” tires. We also have the new Ranger Raptor on hold…
Yeah and to me that means they didn’t strengthen anything steering related. Rack, tie rods, etc.
You’ll never need a third locker 😅
forget the pro, ill take this trim
Very noce. Looks like Tacoma will remain king of the hill. Time will tell how the new technology holds up. If it can run 300k like my 3rd gen then this is the model I will get. Unfortunately the average Joe is being priced out of the pickup truck market.
I like that package a lot more than pro. I dont like the long bed at all....but sick truck!
I heard the sunroof won't be included in production. If true, that is a bummer
Curious about the specifics. Same size steering rack, front diff, cv’s as the 3rd Gen? Did they do anything to those in order to run 33’s from the factory? Not that you couldn’t with the 3rd Gen but just wishful thinking.
Would have to think they've upgraded everything given the larger tires and huge increase in torque.
All new from the ground up.
Honestly this thing looks great I only have a couple issues one is when it is based directly of over landers and off road travel how they cant include a front locker blows my mind. Secondly I'm curious to see how they are with bigger tires the one things tacomas have always sucked at compared to other trucks in there class is the modifications necessary just to bump up tire size a little.
I know I want to see 37’s on it
@@epicone2449 tfl said they talked to the lead engineer and you will not be able to put bigger tires without modification. Idk why Toyota keeps doing this.
@@ah8953Because small truck. I don't think any of them other than the Jeep will easily fit 35s+ without some serious modifications. Why even the Ranger Raptor is coming in just 33s unlike it's sibling the Bronco R on 37s.
GM had to modify the ZR2 for the 35s, widen the flares and move the front axle up.
Are there risks driving hybrid vehicles over deep waters?
Not if you're driving OVER the deep water!!! That'd be something to see!! 🤣🤣 (I get what you're saying and I totally agree. I'd be worried about that as well)
Do we think this will drop the prices of 2023 tacoma from dealership?
All the tacomas near me are below msrp
Nice truck…hoping they won’t price this version into the stratosphere!
People won't say "I just got a new Tacoma!"
They will say "I got a new Trailhunter!"
Can’t wait to see y’all battle payload and weight issues and put that motor through a workout
Not an issue with the Ranger 4cyl, why would this one be?
Pretty amazing overall but still no rear seat AC vents or added rear seat legroom, WTH?
i just wish this model came in manual 😭
No mention of pricing yet? That trailhunter has to be at least 60k
I’m disappointed that it doesn’t come with a front selectable locker , and the rear locker probably can’t be engaged unless it’s in low range still.. im curious if Toyota beefed up the axles to withstand the extra power? I’d sure hope so, I follow a fabricator master mechanic and a prolific overlander that wasn’t impressed by his new tacomas weak rear axle housing, he actually replaced it with a stronger aftermarket axle, aside from this im impressed with the larger tires, im curious if the front suspension flexes more that it used to? The hybrid system sounds … like a bit of a gamble for owning in the long haul, after 5 years how much is that battery going to cost to replace? And really how much fuel is it actually going to cost or safe? Who’s going to do the math? The Toyota is still miles behind the ranger raptor, it has two selectable lockers, long travel suspension, larger tires, 400 plus hp… so instead of Toyota being 20 years behind now they are only 5 years behind, although the hybrid might be a game changer if it gets better fuel economy than the competition? We will see, I love and hate all the trucks, us consumers just can’t win completely, I have owned them all too and work on them too.
If I start saving now, i'm sure I can afford this truck in 13 years
Here's my thing, it's huge which takes away a lot of what makes it a Tacoma. It's too big for trails now which is painfully ironic. The money that went into the molle style sport bar, the roof rack and the snorkel could have gone into a front locker instead.
No increase in suspension travel, they widened the track the cheap way through wheel offset and fender flairs.
Toyota the only way to go
Wish it came with front lockers.
Is this an upgrade from my Altima?
Still not sold on that 4 cylinder Turbo engine, I will just wait
Dont think theyll change that at all for the next couple of years you see what they did to the tundra
Hilux got 4cyl since dinosaur.. best truck on earth.. don’t stress about it buddy.. go for it
Still better than that shitty 3.5
@@scottishd0g87and the overrated 4.0 💩
@@Xx_Sterbern_xX yeap. I have the 4.0. Has a little low end grunt and nothing more. A dog on the highway. Don't know why they never gave it the Dual VVTI version of the motor that the 2009+ 4Runners got. I had to supercharge it. All the Tacoma engines sucked until now. They are actually above the competition in power now.
😮
Looks like in 3-4 years after all the gremlins of the new midsized models have been worked out, I'll have some decisions to make.
Why do you all favor mid size trucks over full size ? Such as the Tacomas are 4 cylinders, is that not a issue when it comes to power? I’m new to overlanding
Parking in the garage, try park a Tundra in a standard 2 car garage, it will take up more than 1/2 of the garage space.
This one has a lot of torque, but a diesel engine would have been perfect.
Can you put a wench on the front?
Have they fixed the lack of headroom and the painful Toyota seats?
Why not a Hilux? Is the real difference tow capacity? Otherwise they look almost the same.
Wish they would have used 17" wheels instead of 18s. As it is, you can maybe fit a 35" tire max....doesn't give you much sidewall.
Is it just me or is the back seat going to be tiny? It looks like the rear doors have shrunk compared to the 3rd gen double cab?
It didn’t seem that way to me as I recall. I’ll know more tomorrow! Clay-
