A lot of modern soft tops have way too many different flaps that move in all sorts of directions with really complicated and fragile hinges, hydraulics etc. The single pair of flaps this has that hide the mechanism move in one direction, and it still looks elegant.

    • @TheJhtlag
      @TheJhtlag Před 8 měsíci +1

      Well yeah, it's silly to imply some heritage going back to the old MGs. It's a different company that bought the MG brand name for marketing to the west. I have to laugh at his 6:17 intonation that this is not a retro design. No kidding. I bet it doesn't have carburetors either. I doubt there's a single item - again other than the nameplate - that's somehow been brought along all these years. Nothing wrong with that, that's marketing and otherwise it might be a fine car, just that old MG is not "back," it's dead and gone.

    GORGEOUS. I can't wait for it to come to Europe. I've owned multiple EVs and roadsters and have been waiting for a ev roadster for a while.. I do think they made this car with the wrong ideea in mind. Roasters are usually driven very rarely and for short trips, they should have made it with a sub 50kw battery and even 250hp would've been sufficient.

      How about something not quite like the hilarious Wuling MINI EV soft top.
      But something based on an A segment EV like a theoretical MG1, MG2 or 3 and just make an EV equivalent of a MGB or a Midget.
      Something not to just compete with Mazda's crown, but subverse that into Renault Wind, Citroen C3 Pluriel or Daihatsu Copen territory. These kinds of smaller, lighter, more accessible but crucially driver orientated cars can compliment the market demand for roadsters, and the demand for less impactful electric cars. Cyclecars/light quadricycles being the bottom floor before a moped or ebike, heavy quadricycles being up to 450kg. Who wouldn't want to see fun, cheap n cheerful sub-1100kg EVs? They're possible now.
      And damn anyone who would like to laugh at a "Noddy car" like the Citroën 2CV

      Clearly, you’ve never driven a high-performance convertible. Try an Audi R8 Spyder. The sound of the V10 is half the enjoyment. It’s literally the only downside to our EV future of sports cars.
      Over the years, a Lexus SC 430 Convertible, Nissan 350Z Roadster, BMW M4 Cabriolet, and now an Audi R8 Spyder. All in Southern California and with the top down on most days unless it rains or it’s too hot (both rarely happen around here).
      With regard to health, unless you’re parked with the engine on, you’re not inhaling your own exhaust, top down or up. We all get plenty of pollution from all the cars and trucks around us (even with our windows closed).

      Mazda Miata weighs 2400lbs. That's what gives it its agility. It's difficult to mimic that feeling when trying to hide 2 tonnes. This is the metric that EVs really need to R&D: lightness. It'll greatly improve efficiency, range, engagement, and feel. Not to mention the lifespan of its consumables like brakes and tires.

      The fake engine noise can be fixed very easily . They can just get a copy close to that of Lambo or Farrari instead of the sissy noise that they have installed currently.

    This will be like 15-20k max for used 3-5 year old dual motor version with reasonable mileage... Since it has virtually no storage, low miles are guaranteed... Is it an LFP battery? EPA rating?

      MGC was initially trademarked in Europe (I guess ignoring the quite niche previous MGC) but it appears MG Europe has decided to commit to the Cyberster name.
      I guess their logic is - like the equally stupidly named Boxster - people will quickly get used to the name.

  • @black8art

    EXTREMNE SIMPLICITY is the traditional hallmark of a CLASSIC MG! This misses the point by a country mile! If it were 20% smaller, physically, HALF the weight, and cut HALF the "bells and whistles" to focus on CHEAP 2 seat motoring, with absolutely NO DISTRACTIONS from the road surface in front of you, or the person of choice in the passenger seat, then maybe the "spirit" of the classic brand could be replicated?
    MY idea was to go down the Japanese "Kei Car" route, and bring back the "Spridget" sized car, using ultra low emissions 660cc 3 cylinder ICE, with a 6 speed MANUAL transmission, and minimal electrical accessories! (radio, for traffic reports and music, with potential for bluetooth connection to your personal music collection?) Even Sat-Nav would be an optional, (though I'd not recommend it!) as getting "lost" on a drive used to be the biggest part of the automotive adventure! Read a road atlas, or take your smart-phone!
    Ultimately, MG cars are famous for being LIGHT, responsive, basic and affordable cars for the young, or the young at heart! This segment COULD be the future of personal transportation, as more than 90% of ALL journeys made by car, are made with 1 or 2 occupants! ....so why not make it FUN?

  • @nmarks
    @nmarks Před 8 měsíci +1
