I love teaching people how to paint!
I created The Idaho Painter as an alternative to big box DIY video shows that have actors who only act like they can paint but really can barely act. My mission is to teach everyone across the globe how to paint from the non-experienced to the long time professional. No experience is necessary. My channel is for the home improvement person, DIY painter, handyman professional, home and garden enthusiast, and even the professional painter. - Jak na to + styl
I learn so much from watching these vids. Thank you
I like all your videos but this one it's impressive. You are so amazing. Thank you.
looks good chris.
Sweet finish. That look is nice
door looks amazing. I'm jealous
Excellent video
Nice job
Spent some time on this one...good look to it.
Another thing to know is that even though you are spraying clear, you need drops on the grass. The clear finish seals the grass and kills it leaving you with a brown rectangle your customers will not like.
Bingo!
@@tocolee6127 right?!?
Truth
Nice work!
Thank you! Cheers!
wow chris your materials dry quick, here in calif were dealing with VOC laws.
Looks amazing, Chris...don't spray that chicken in the background! LOL
The door looks like new but this is just a suggestion, I don't always toss out my shower liners because they make good disposable drop cloths for messy spray painting.
Even the chicken came by to take a look at your great job!
Great Video! I haven't seen one where someone glazed an exterior door. I actually made a video on my channel of using M.L. Campbell Products to stain, glaze, and finish cherry cabinet doors.
looking new again b&k
love your videos! also, i like how you post bible versus on your videos sometimes...i always look them up
I would like to refinish my front door and you make it look very easy. Do you ever have a problem with the first coat of stain on the original polyurethane not sticking. Also the door looks great.
Looks good. While applying the Helmsman there was a lot of drift. Aren't you concerned about drift getting on the windows?
I am completely new to all this and I need to do this to my front entry door also. My question is: what is the difference between a stain and a glaze? Should I clear coat or lacquer? Thank you and that door came out amazing. I'm a big fan of your videos.
Lacquer is a clear coat. If you put glaze on wood that has no clear coat it will turn the wood almost black. Glaze is meant to go over a clear coat. Stain is meant to go on bear wood
Great videos Chris. I'm a builder by trade and do a lot of painting however I like watching a pro such as yourself. Question for you. Was this door a wood door or fiberglass? Would this technique work with worn (sun bleached) fiberglass? I'd hate to screw up a customers door lol:)!!!
Working and spraying on the customer's lawn. Lol
Do u worry about dirt and dust sorting out side?
Looking to get this done just so I don’t get ripped off what does something like this cost to get done professionally
I would suggest Stripping front door. sanding. Apply wipping stain. Vynl sanding sealer. sand, topcoat, sand topcoat again.. All could be done withing 4 hours tops..and finish is perfect everytime.
these videos are confusing me because the way you said is exactly how I've always known to do it as well.
well, other than the vynl sanding sealer. never heard of that. Going to look into what that is.
Everything is cool but you don’t show the products that you use
Tip sunlight can cause it to flash dry uneven .You can actually see uneven product on the door
Yep
Hi CHRIS, on this video you are using a water based base coat before glazing, yet on another similar video you highly stress the need for a lacquer base coat before glazing. Is either water or lacquer base coat before glazing acceptable.?
If the customer likes, all that matters. Just understand what he is doing here. Almost nothing about this is what, or how, you would want for a high-end wooden door. This is just a quick/easy makeover for a worn door. It has its place.
What would the steps be ?
What is average price you can charge with this method?
I have did complete refinishes on front doors but haven't tried this method yet.
Was just curious what other contractors charge for this method.
Voice sound too low, tools loud. Hard to watch at night
I have watched a few videos and still have no idea of what is glaze. Does stain and clear coat achieve the same thing as glaze?
It is a transparent coating that you add after painting or staining
Can you share the products you use?
i used a minwax stain and didnt let it dry long enough. When I put the hellmsman clear on it starting blistering when the sun hit it. Had to resand the entire door.
Dang
Use a dry brush to take your glaze off and work it...
I really hate working with Gel/Glaze finishes!
Me too.
Hi i have a job just like this. What is a ballpark estimate. I thinkbi under bid ouch! Thanks

One question why don't shoot the clear with hvlp gun?
It is harder to set up
Paint Life TV
thanks
can i get one of those hats. please.
***** thanks
what is the "glaze" product?
An SW product
How much come to San Antonio and do my door lol
Would love to go there
Why would someone want to do this rather than just stain the door?
Because it looks pretty cool
I've always underpromised and overdelivered. If they've let a stained door fade and dry out and their expectations are for a glamorous new look, I'd tell them they need to go buy a $1500 door. It looks great for what it is.
Thats what you get for cheap.
Cheap?
This guy is a joke. You dont stain on top of urethane and claiming that leaving a lot of stain stuck in the corners gives it an antique look. You dont spray urethane from three feet away. I am guessing he tells customers that he has how-to videos on facebook.
the door is trash!!!!
Okay
You are trash for bringing negative by to his comment section...YOU DID A VERY GOOD JOB SIR....
if you have an opinion then you should also follow it with your own suggestions don't you think?
Honestly it looks like trash.
I don't get it. The door looks like one of those antiquing finishes they used to sell. Fake looking grain. I don't like it at all.
As long as the customer likes it is all that really matters🤙
