Dash cam video of my drive from Dawson City to Inuvik on the Dempster Highway. A long and slow video but it was a long and slow drive:) Music by Chris Zabriskie
I was having 4 drinks of brandy tonight and started looking at trips to Inuvik and got home sick. I lived in Inuvik from 81'-95 and loved every minute +5 there. I must of drove the Dempster at least a dozen times and drove from Inuvik to Nova Scotia 8 times from there. It was as much of a high getting to my original home in NS as it was getting back home to Inuvik. I was so glad to get back there (drove again ) to the home coming in 08' ,Jesus 11 years ago. Hope to make 1 more trip before I croak. Its a been a while since I had a good feed of mosquitos on the Dempster, yum. I miss the people there, what a sense of community. Hello Noel Gordon and Conrad Bourque, you old dogs are lucky enough to know what I mean. We had some wild times together in the years of growing up. Love you people. cheers Roger
I worked as a surveyor on this highway and on the Mackenzie highway. I spent nearly 5 years and I probably walked a thousand miles on these roads. The Richardson Mountains in winter provided a spectacular struggle for equipment, many failures. The towns have changed some, Inuvik seems to be about 20 times larger. Thanks for posting.
Drove the Dempster September/October one year - just before the snow was flying. Absolutely beautiful colours! Would do it again. Picked up a British hitchhiker at the south end to Inuvik- picked him up again at Eagle Plains on the way back - boy did he ever have some adventures - got a ride with three guys that were out after grizzlies which they apparently shot at - he didn't know if they had hit them - then not too far further he was dropped off and slept in his crawl in tent by the side of the road - don't think he slept too well!
This is gutsy to drive it at night in the dead of winter. I would love to try it but totally terrified at trying. I have driven it end to end June 2019.
Thank you for the video is great, my friends and I wanted to March 2016 driving from Whitehorse to Inuvik, then reach TUK by ice road. Will this season can be reached by car TUK it? You are living in Inuvik it? Thank you
How was driving during this season? How many hours of daylight did you have? Did you take many breaks? Haha, sorry so many questions. Thanks for sharing!
Ari Sigglin Not a lot of daylight back then but now it's 24 hours a day there. I only stopped a few times on the 10 hours of driving. Once for fuel and the others to stretch my legs. Thanks for the questions!
I did the drive to the arctic circle (just past eagle plains), in early october in a subaru wrx. This is not an off-road kind of road - it's dirt, gravel, mud, and a million and 1 potholes. Make sure you bring spare tires, have good winter tires, your car is running properly. The most important things I took from my drive was that a) drive slow and give yourself a lot of time - stay at the eagle plains hotel b) be vary careful with potholes c) bring full-size spare, if not two. 3rd, you are in the middle of absolute nowhere, bring equipment in case you have to stay overnight.
@@ZKozak-hp5vb Awesome advice! I did this trip in August 2016 from Toronto, in a Nissan Altima with 3 full spares. I was lucky, I lost only one tire..somewhere in Tombstone park, on my way south. I'm planning to do the trip again in an Altima, this Christmas. Beautiful part of the world!
Drive for conditions but not too fast. The road is topped with crushed rock. It's generally well maintained but it will eat your tires. Lower speeds, particularly when passing oncoming vehicles save rubber and windsheilds. Higher speed increases the already high likelihood of a flat. Bring two mounted spares and consider a full set of all terrain tires.

Mt Hubcap ,I worked at Ogalvie River survey camp in 1971
When you crest the hill at about 5:25 those mountains are breathtakingly magnificent -- even on video!
Magnifique, merci
I love Canada, I really hope to live there someday...
I wanna do this someday. Awesome video
This video could have been two hours longer and I would still have watched the whole thing. Also, Chris Zabriskie: great music choice.
just woaw. I wanna do it at some point in my life on my bicycle. It became one of my dreams.
Breathtaking view

Money Depending Someday In My GEO METRO!!!
11:00 that's the highest concentration of trucks I've seen outside of a truck dealership.
I saw the 2015 f150 in Dawson city before it was even officially unveiled! No camouflage, but no one up there even noticed.
Great!

foobar42 I'm Doing This One Year Someday In My GEO METRO!
Me and my friends have decided to try this drive in July 2018 in a Mercedes Benz C300...from Toronto ON
Depends on the car, you want good traction because the roads can get extremely slick and muddy
