We always had Thanksgiving dinner with just our faimly of four at home. Every year our mom made broccoli casserole...until one year she said she was going to make something else. Y'all, I about had a heart attack!!! Thanksgiving dinner without mom's broccoli casserole??? So I made it that year...and every year since. Ive made it so much that I can make it in my sleep...and it's such an easy recipe. I was probably 16 that year. I'll be turning 64 on Nov 26, our mom passed away 12 years ago, but that broccoli casserole still graces our table every year. Here's to you, mom❤❤❤ I'm crying as I write this comment.

I did this technique with peanut butter instead of pumpkin. Then I added the chocolate shell toppings to the top (completely covered) then before it’s set add chopped peanut butter cups and drizzled melted peanut butter…ahh talk about cheat day lol or holiday decadence 😊

Cranberry Relish , so simple , but so good . 1 can whole cranberry sauce , 1 can jellied cranberry sauce , 1 can mandarin oranges drained , zest of an orange , juice of 1 orange , 2 TBS of honey - mix all ingredients , I use a crystal bowl ( so you can see the pretty) garnish with mint leaves and chopped walnuts . Lip smacking good . Hope you try it and hope you enjoy it - very refreshing 😁

There is such an easy way to cut oranges cleanly, leaving no pith. Wash and rinse the outside of the orange, then slice the slightest amount off each end. Then take the remaining orange and slice it into 3 pieces, they will be round disks. Lay each disk down and cut it into fours which will give you triangle pieces. Then it's very easy to cut the orange away from the rind. I cut mine that way when I want to eat an orange, I just don't to the final step of cutting from the rind because I use my teeth to pull it off.

I make green bean bundles each year. Simply wrap a few green beans in a half slice of bacon. Poke a toothpick through to hold them together and place in a casserole dish. Once you get your desired amount of bundles placed, heat some butter and add brown sugar and a touch of garlic salt. Pour that over the top of your bundles. You can refrigerate overnight or go straight to the oven. 350° for 30-40 minutes.

I am the oddball that loves to make new recipes for holidays and family gatherings! I've always been of the belief that if something isn't to my liking, the more people at the house, the higher chance there will be of someone who loves it!
As for a dish we'd never change, our family is a bit weird there too! A few years ago we decided we wanted to try something new for holidays so now we have themed dinners. I believe last Thanksgiving was tex mex and everyone brought their best Tex Mex dish!

Hint for peeling your oranges. Bring pot of water to a boil. Turn it off and place your whole oranges in the hot water so they're covered. Let the oranges set for 5 minutes or so. Remove oranges with tongs. When cool enough to handle, peel the oranges. Majority of the bitter white part you were trimming will come off with the peel.

I make a simplified version of this where I just open a couple cans of fruit cocktail, add the mini marshmallows, chopped pecans, and then mix in Cool Whip, instead of the sour cream.:) It’s always a hit! My Grandma used to make it with all fresh fruit, but I’m definitely too busy on Thanksgiving for that, and this is a short cut that I learned from my mom. I don’t know if it’s a Northern thing or what, but we seem to prefer the little bit of sweetness from the whipped cream. 😊

Dearest Mandy, may I suggest an easier way to make candied carrots? Use the small carrots as you’ve shown or large carrots, peeled and cut into coin rounds. Put in a pot, add water to boil, add salt and granulated whit sugar. (The amount of salt and sugar depends on how many you make) Boil until tender, drain and add butter and brown sugar all back in the pot you cooked the carrots in. Cover with the lid and let them sit on the warm top of the stove. Stirring a couple times while they sit. When ready to serve with your meal they’re warm and ready to eat. So much easier than the crockpot I hope you try them this way and let me know if your family likes them, as well as the other ones 💕🙏🙏

Then I got married and they had all the things that you mentioned. Growing up in Texas my grandma always made those for Thanksgiving and Christmas well actually she made the Queso and she had someone else make everything else because she did not know how. My mom did but not my grandma on either side. Now that was my dad's side. I am 59 years old, and I grew up with my moms stuffing every year and will NEVER change it... EVER! It's relatively basic, but it is amazing! My mom died 😢in 2004, and when my extended family lived nearby me, all I would have to say was that I was making Mom's stuffing and everyone came to my house for Thanksgiving . I now live with my sister, and even though it's just the two of us now, our Thanksgiving table will always have this on the table. I'll post the recipe here.
    Thanksgiving Stuffing
2 loaves of white bread, cut or torn into approx. 1 in. pieces.
    6 T. butter
2 C finely chopped onion (about 2 medium onion)
    1 C finely chopped celery (about 2 - 3 stalks)
    1/4 cup dried parsley
    1 tsp dried sage
    1 tsp dried thyme
    1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
    1 to 1 1/2 cups chicken stock
    2 eggs, beaten
    3/4 tsp salt
    1/2 tsp pepper
    Preheat oven to 400⁰
Butter a 9x13 casserole dish and set aside.
In a VERY large bowl, tear or cut bread into pieces and set aside.
In a medium pan, Melt the butter over medium high heat. Sautee onions and celery until soft, about 8 minutes.
Stir in the herbs, nutmeg, salt, and pepper and cook for just 30 seconds more.
Add the celery and onion mixture to the bowl with the bread pieces and toss together.
Stir together the chicken stock and eggs, then pour onto the bread mixture and stir to distribute evenly.
(Depending on how firm you want the stuffing, etc, you will need to add more stock until its is lightly moist but not soggy or packed together).
Spread into casserole dish. Cover with foil and bake 20 minutes.
Remove foil and then bake another 25-30 minutes or so or until golden brown.
NOTE: If prepared the day ahead and refrigerated, some of this can be stuffed into the turkey, and it is amazing!!

To your own taste, add brown sugar ( just sprinkle it over the top along with the rest of ingredients), butter, maple syrup. Top with mini marshmallows. Bake at 350F for 20-30 minutes. Sometimes I'll add ground cinnamon before I top with marshmallows. So yummy for my tummy 🙂🦋

Our sweet potato casserole is a big can of sweet potatoes drained with an undrained can of crushed pineapple, 1/4 cup chopped walnuts, 1 tsp. vanilla, a dash of fresh orange juice, 1/4 cup brown sugar and 1/4 cup dried cherries mix together and top with marshmallows. Bake until marshmallows are browned.

My family wouldn't forgive me if I didn't make dressing like my mom used to. Also I started making a cauliflower casserole when my grown children were little. Its just cooked cauliflower layered with cheese, bread crumbs and butter. Now even the grandkids look for it. I usually buy 6 heads of cauliflower because they need a serving for later too.😂 Love all the recipes and look forward to trying them. ❤

I normally don’t add a gravy mix to mine and it’s still good but the flavor of the brown gravy added a whole new level of flavor to it. Delicious. Will definitely continue to make it this way!

Oh, I'm all about the buttermilk! (A perfect lunch is liverwurst or Braunschweiger sandwich, banana and tall glass of cold buttermilk!) Those potatoes sound delish. Don't really have long-standing recipes for holidays but love a good dressing - heavy on the cornbread - with good seasoning and something extra; maybe diced apples and/or pecans, or craisins. Of course, the main use is for leftovers the next few days; sammiches made with thin slices of dressing, turkey and cranberry sauce. That is my big indulgence -- the leftovers for several days.

One thing my family has always loved on thanksgiving is congealed salad. We do a lemon-lime and a strawberry every year.
It’s 2 small boxes of jello (either 1 lemon and 1 lime or 2 strawberry). A can of crushed pineapple in juice. Cool whip. Cottage cheese and crushed pecans.
You put the pineapple into a saucepan and add the jello mix and stir frequently until it comes up to a simmer. Then let it cool completely. In a big mixing bowl add the jello mixture, 8oz cool whip, cottage cheese (measure with your heart but I use about half of a large container of small curd) and crushed pecans (again… measure with your heart but I use about a cup). Mix it all up and refrigerate it overnight. It’s SO GOOD!!! We have this instead of cranberry sauce.

I always make a fresh fruit salad for Thanksgiving. I use whatever type of juice I have on hand and add a little cornstarch to the dressing. I usually throw in strawberries, pineapple, grapes, blackberries, kiwi, and whatever else looks good. I usually use mandarin oranges because I also hate that pulp. It’s always gorgeous, fresh, and there’s never any left.

I take the green bean casserole recipe, but use cream of chicken soup, in lieu of mushroom coup. Add extra worchestershire sauce, and then I add french fried onions into the casserole mix, the measurement will be to taste. Pour mixture into the prepared pan, as directed by the recipe. Then add more onions on top as called for in the recipe.
