LYRICS:
The Night (1988 Deathrock version)
The day is the wife whom I elude.
The one to whom I should be right.
Though forewarned by peers and kin
I always give in to the night.
Mother always warned me such,
being a nocturnal soul
Besides just being simply strange
Spawns from some illness of the mind.
But the Night,
She calls me
She calls me
She calls me
She calls me
She sways in her velvet dress
And pulls me towards her in the dark
While the others rest
While the others rest
While the others rest
Heed the call the time has come
for you children of the Night
Gather 'round like suckling dogs
Mother's come she is the Night.
Come with me to the other side.
Make that girl in black your bride!
But the Night,
She calls me
She calls me
She calls me
She calls me
She sways in her velvet dress
And pulls me towards her in the dark
While the others rest
While the others rest
While the others rest
I see the light
coming through the blinds.
I close my eyes.
I don't care if you think it's wrong.
I'm gonna sleep the whole day long.
The sun goes down, This is my wake up call.
It still seems very strange to me
that her quiet, lonely streets
draped in all their mystery
could be so sweet and comforting
But the Night,
She calls me
She calls me
She calls me
She calls me
She sways in her velvet dress
And pulls me toward her in the dark
While the others rest
While the others rest
While the others rest - Hudba
"Make that girl in black your bride"............ i don´t know what it is. I just love that line.
Me too and I was thinking to myself "Voltaire knows me so well...I love black on a girl"
I love the she sways in her velvet dress line
It's a actually a metaphor for loving night
Mieke Werner
Good answer XD
Well r u wearing black? Cuz dat might be it
Can't count the number of times I have been pulled out of a dark place by Voltaire. Music saves lives.
Can't count the number of times I've joyously been pulled back into my darkness by Voltaire. Music inspires life.
As a nocturnal soul myself, in a world which expects day-wakeness, this is very accurate.
Also, on the other meaning such as, "Make that girl in black your bride!", yes please 🖤
As I am currently nocturnal, this is literally the most fitting song for me.
So much medieval cathedral feels... I'm loving this.
I think the original Almost Human album version is one of the most underrated Voltaire songs.
+Tessa Phillips
Heavily agreed. The original was amazing.
Aligor Zeimet Finally I find someone else who agrees :)
Tessa Phillips
I love both versions honestly. They're the same song, but at the same time different. Voltaire and his band are just great.
Aligor Zeimet Yeah both versions each have their own charm.
Tessa Phillips
Yes. On one hand you have something closer to classic Goth and something closer to Gothic rock. Both are amazing though. I love the Night regardless of versions.
Not sure whether I like this or the original more. Both rock in different ways. One thing's for sure: Voltaire's still got it.
The other version being so monochordic, although it lacks the dynamics of this one, in its own way it creates a sort of hypnotizing sound for the violins to delve through. But this one screams out all the crude expression from the song.
This is my favourite version of this song! It really wakes up my dark side (which doesnt have to be evil)
As a person with dark inclinations who finds it damn near possible to sleep daydweller hours I feel (both versions of) this song in my bones
I can't sleep

Anyone here from Daria Cohen's The Night? Just curious in seeing if that's causing this video to get more views...
Yup
Me, now I'm in love
Yup!
Yeppers
The same here ^^
HOW HAVE I ONLY JUST NOW HEARD THIS?! I SHOULD NEVER UNDERESTIMATE VOLTAIRE!
Rhianna_Zolt I discovered it today... (4 Oct 2017)
I just discovered it thanks to Daria Cohen's Vampair Series. I freaking love them both now. Daria is an amazing animator and Voltair an amazing musician.
Im five years behind you lol XD
And I’m six...
Can never hear this song enough ❤
This Deathrock version is just too awesome.
first song i ever heard from you back on that album. I was in highschool 2005-7 i think... you changed so much of my life. Even responded to my fanmail. I'm so happy you're still singing and producing content
Holy crap, this album is outstanding, I love this rendition of the song much more than the original. Outstanding job Voltaire!
A flock of followers have solidly associated this song with Daria's cartoon vampire. Congratulations.
rock + gothic + a bit of steampunk... wait what is that a thing?
well this song is good so keep it up :D sounds like some sort of theme song for a gothic steampunk series. :P
Deathrock...

You ever just dance to specifically this video at ungodly hours? (Aka midnight - 5am)
Cuz I do. In fact I was dancing to it 4 minutes ago :D
OH MY GOD I'M SO SORRY I FORGOT YOU EXISTED FOR LIKE TWO YEARS! Voltaire I fucking adore the shit out of you thank you for existing!
"She sways in her velvet dress" Is my favorite lyrics.

She sways in her velvet dress😍 L O V E it
This is my favorite.
I love his music, I just “die” everytime I listen to this, I feel so immortal
You are the most underated Artist of our time- long live Voltaire- i tune my guitar like you and in the event of a solar flare- i will spread the music of Voltaire through the minstrel.. please if you can find the time, post more how to play videos.
so an animator used this song in a video of theirs, if you havent seen it yet, check it out, the character "Duke" in it is basically Voltaire's 2D cousin.
The actual video is simply called "The Night" by Darian Cohen.
Same song but this is an extended lyrics and remixed version
Need more late 80s sounding goth "Devil Doll" sounding stuff like this. Really great, been wanting to hear a rock sound from you for years.
Not a single day without listening to this. SHE CALLS ME
At least someone like me needs this everyday
IM DYING THIS IS THE BEST SONG I EVER HEARD I COULD LISTEN TO IT FOR YEARS ITS SO ADDCITING
i came here from the video "the night" fan animation. i love your song , its so dark and beautiful!!
Same. I was a bit confused at first, since this isn't the same version as the one used in the animation and Voltaire doesn't have the old version on his channel.

The anthem of GOTH.
This this THIS RIGHT HERE IS WHY I LOVE THIS GUYS MUSIC!
I found this version on Halloween 2020.
Completely Perfect.
I just realized voltaire had a youtube channel.
Best thing ever, isn't it?
So basically, he messed up his biological clock and ended up being nocturnal
This comment speaks to me on a spiritual level.
It's called being a software programmer.
If I could I'd sleep all day and awaken at night. If only I knew a job I could work with a night shift that actually paid well.
Without my sleeping medicine I never seem to get tired both in night and in daytime never sleeping at all.
@@rilriiakilurden9538 dude, calm the hell down, it's a god damned joke you dolt
I cant figure out which version I like best. I like how clean the vocals feel in the almost human one, but I love how rich the instrumentals are in this one. Both are good!

I've noticed that a *lot* of his music has this.. Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde vibe to it. I love it!
I love the bridge that he added. I miss that in the "Almost Human" version.
Voltaire is perhaps my favorite Songwriter of all time, having great songs with great instruments and lyrics. Keep up the good work!

I discovered this fellow after hearing "brains" while the kids were watching Billy and Mandy, now in a fan of both the musician and the show
Voltaire, I think you've made it clear you very much like bats, but what are your thoughts on owls?
Well, everyone is fond of owls except for mice and shrews and Simon Cowwels.
Oh man, in all seriousness, what happened to that flash? I looked for it, and couldn't find it again.
Is that a reference to Mr Weebls?
Thoughts on bat owls?

This makes me want to decorate my home in some Gothic sort of way. I wonder if there's a series on CZcams that discusses the different aspects and journey of Gothic Homemaking?

Extraordinary video and music! Thank you for providing the lyrics!
Night is beautiful.
Come, friends. Let's all be nocturnal. Fuck the sun, it makes you go blind.
over 30 years of his life has been dedicated to music. Amazing.
Sounds like a song that would play during a Scooby-Doo chase scene
That and Oh my Goth
One of my most favored songs by you V. I remember when you mentioned about this remake in a Facebook post, and hot damn, it delivers. Thank you for this!

This is the first CD that I bought and had signed the day it came out. Definitely one of my favorite albums. Keep up the splendid work! Looking forward to the upcoming book too.
ah, So wonderful. It's awe inspiring that Voltaire can work on songs, and teach and also perform such songs from time to time.
Ooh, I liked the ending instrumental a lot.
This is some boss battle shit
I have always loved the original version of this song on the Almost Human album and this version is awesome as well! This song has always jibed with me so well as I'm very much a night person by nature. Keep doin' what you do, Voltaire!
I've been listening to the original version of this song a lot, recently. This is so beautiful!
+FromanAntlugia22
Both versions are good. The original feels more like Classic Goth and this one is Deathrock which is great.
This is beautiful.
Love this version 🖤
awesome man i luv your music, it's inspiring.
I have been waiting since you first announced this album to hear this, It was totally worth it! :D
You nailed it!This song opened a time portal to The BatCave London! Back before Deathrock was pegged as "Goth"...guess I am showing my age LOL
I really like this.
A female vampire turned you into one of their own.
Insanely awesome.

I started playing this album on playlist, and then this song started sounding familiar.. And then I realised it was what I thought it was. I love the original version of The Night, this was so cool. Definitely buying this
Love the song! Keep it up man!

On previous albums you did a sort of commentary on the songs, either in the description or a separate video, telling us little details of how they came to be.
Any plans to do this again? It'll give me an excuse to replay the album for like the 30th time lol
it has a huge sisters of mercy vibe for me and i love it!
