    Honest opinion here: the current Tudor GMT watch is the best watch that Rolex makes...design wise and as value.

    Awesome interview! Could you imagine the sensation if Rolex embraced their iconic vintage models with re-releases? A modern interpretation of the 5508, 6200, 1680 or 6542 GMT? Or maybe it's Rolex’s desire to set Tudor out to handle this for the both of them with the heritage releases since from the 1950's up until the 90's, both were nearly identical in case and bracelets. At 8:55 did he say 60 years for the prototype? Designed in 1955?? Either I heard wrong or he meant 50. The 2016 Black Bay black has definitely grabbed my attention and is on my purchase radar. I just wish Tudor would add one more thing to it which would be the icing on the cake for the Black Bay. DRILLED LUG HOLES. Along with the beveled edges, drilled lug holes would be the ultimate vintage retro yummy and make changing between bands a snap which is part of the charm of this model....just like the originals ; ). Thank you Tudor for the Heritage models and keep them coming however please consider adding DRILLED LUG HOLES to the Black Bay just like on the ranger. It will be a hit among Rolex-Tudor collectors.

      Look into the second hand market. They are trading in the low $2000 range complete with boxes, papers, etc and in excellent condition. Cutting down on take out or starbucks, most people can set $2k aside surprisingly quickly (a few months or a year). If you really want it, you can find a way to save for it. All of us with this sickness do. :-)

    Great video! I admire the Tudor brand so much! Maybe it's just the Rolex connection, and how much they are alike..? Or it's unique styling? Idk. I just know that I've settled on my next three watches, and Tudor will be my milestone watch! Preferably a bronze heritage, to possibly go along with a Hamilton flintridge, and a Tissot of some sort; I'm starting to find those brands to be extremely affordable as well as solidly manufactured!

    • @JCW80
      @JCW80 Před 7 lety

      Interesting point, but it's probably incorrect. For such a popular website, Hodinkee's videos actually have pretty small viewing numbers, lots (all?) of them have well under 100k views. There are other people out there doing car reviews, for instance, that are getting hundreds of thousands or even over a million views within 24 hours. Hodinkee's content is definitely aimed at a niche crowd.

      Set by Rolex employees at the moments of placing the hands and never been wound? Guess not. Much easiest explanation just gone through the tedious process of wnding the watch until the Second Hand of each watch stopped somewhere near 6 o’clock mark and than manually set Hour Hands and Minute hands 10 and 2 ? Then never shake nor wind them

    • @vince4712
      @vince4712 Před 6 lety

      allen rodon it's just simply the best way to set the hands if you want to show the dial :) don't know about the dates and I think the reason for the second hand being at 31 is that if it was set on 30 (what is the case for a lot of other brands photos and exhibits) you wouldn't see the hand because of the rather big dial lume on some of the watches

    • @diogeneslantern18
      @diogeneslantern18 Před 6 lety +1

      There is a thread on the Rolex Forum titled "Rolex and the 28th of the month", it is a very interesting read with lots of different theories (albeit no consensus). Personally, I like the one theory where the number 28 filled most of the date window, in order to giver perspective. as for 10:11:31 - many manufacturers use this time as the watch looks like it has a smiley face, and the hands are all proportionately apart from one another - it's an aesthetic thing - the same as the Watchmaker's 4 (where the Roman numeral 4 is displayed as IIII instead of IV) - it is done because it gives a better aesthetic vis-a-vis it's counterpart XIII
