This was likely the BEST singles match in pickleball I've witnessed. BOTH players were emotionally taken to the very edge(!) If Lea Jansen curbed her frustrations -just an iota more, and realized that her game was ON, she might have been victorious. But...Anna Leigh also was more frustrated than usual as well. Despite their actual and/or imagined mistakes, they played their hearts out: BOTH should be proud. SUPERB game!

The best match I ever saw...men or women's...doubles or singles.....Lea's backhand stab volleys...it hurt my back just to watch her do them! They always say that in tennis, the most exciting matches are baseliners vs net rushers. You don't see those kinds of matches much anymore, because the technology has made net rushing more difficult than in the McEnroe, Becker, Navirtilova, Sampras eras. But this match had it all......

Great match by both, but experience won today. Lea was playing better most of the match but allowed Anna to shift the momentum by the timed breaks and failed to do the same. She played a few points towards the second set rushed and didn't allow herself to reset. If she keeps improving could see her beat Anna consistently.

I have had and been through and still go through the -1 thing Leah lost this match by.when you increase your paddle power.which Leah was fresh to have done, you also get those wide open easy winners after winning the point if you just keep the ball either more inbounds and farther from the line,or be more aggressive as far as you speed and power of her return exept aim for a 1.5 foot area inside the out line.because those power paddles have a tiny sweet spot, they are unforgiving and somewhat inconsistent sweet spot.i have her paddle and it gets more more than I wish it would.when you hit the dead center sweat spot ,while momentum is moving the same direction, you get those balls that have lots of energy, and they flare or slice just a bit out.but a faster paced ball aimed 3 feet right of the ones that flare out land is the best play, and difficult to do ,if she plays with that paddle a week even 2 weeks longer, she would have that mitigated and reduced in occurrence. ..and if playing this caliber will win.problem is Anna Leewalked up to the ledge and saw the dragons teeth.and knows that she has to make some changes,or next time she will lose.she will study the problem, identify, andndndndnd immensely work on her unforced errors,mistakes.consistancy. ....and scary thing to me is ,she sees what new ,better, paddle tech can do for other people games.look what percent of did to her.beat her.now sees Leah show obvious Improvement. I suspect Anna will be making some changes similar to other girls.and that's scary.

Can someone explain the paddle moves from Lea before every serve and return? Was curious as to if it was just a routine, like any other quirky thing, or if it was a focus move to remind her of some movement she was trying to replicate in her stroke while playing. They seem to retake a let serve, but as far as i know the let rule was removed and if a serve hits the tape but lands legally, play continues and you DO NOT retake the serve. Is it a tourney-specific rule? a pro-only rule? Am i just a dummy behind the times? Any clarification is greatly appreciated!

Game 1 when Lea got frustrated after the point near the end of the game... I dont think it was the ooing and ahhing that she was upset about. I heard someone in the croud yell "out!".
I think they were referring to a ball a couple of contacts prior where it was really close to the sideline. I think a fan was frustrated that wasnt called out, and then expressed that verbally, which is not a word that a pickleball player wants to be hearing in the middle of a point. Shes a doubles player too and teammates calling "out" to stop their teammate from hitting a ball is a normal thing. So if you hear that word suddenly in the middle of a point, it could trigger a reflex reaction that oulls you out of the play just long enough to lose focus.

Geut then lost 11-3, 11-1 to Ava Ignatowich. Ignatowich then lost to Anna Leigh Waters 11-0, 11-2. That's how far Bouchard is from the top of women's pickleball.
