  • Here's one thing every PS5 user should know.. How to enable 120Hz on PS5 & your gaming TV! If you have a gaming monitor for Playstation 5, you might have to turn on 120Hz manually for best 120 FPS performance! Here's step-by-step how I enable 120Hz for my Sony Gaming TV for Playstation 5! It's really simple & easy.. First, make sure that 120Hz is set to automatic in your Playstation 5 video output settings, then go to you Game & App Settings & change from Game Default to Performance Mode! Lastly.. To enable 120Hz on Sony Gaming TVs, change the HDMI Signal format from Default to Enhanced. You can also use Enhanced VRR when PS5 supports VRR with the new update! I would like everyone to know that when you have completed all these changes, in the settings where you can see the 'video output information', it will not set to 4k 120hz unless you open a game. That game of course does need to be able to support 120hz. After you started a game and go back to the settings, it will have changed to 4k 120hz.

Also, if you use a receiver, the HDMI port must be at least HDMI 2.0b compliant (circa 2017) to provide the necessary bandwidth for 4k120Hz. I have to bypass this by plugging the PS5 directly into the TV's HDMI 2.1 port, and using ARC passthrough for audio. The small downside is, without eARC, I am forced into Dolby audio (no Linear PCM surround.) It's a small price to pay in return for full bandwidth video quality, and a much smarter option than buying a new receiver if it isn't necessary.

@@jostephan7224 I did the google. 100% of Ps5 games that are running at 120fps are at a lower resolution than 4K. This video explains the settings needed to allow your Ps5 console to display at 4k120 of course, but it’s the games themselves that dictate the resolution and frame rate, and no single Ps5 game runs at 4K and 120fps at the same time. You should watch the Digital Foundry breakdowns of performance vs quality modes on the new consoles, they all show that games running at 4K never go higher than 60fps, the consoles just arent powerful enough. It was a marketting ploy by Sony and MS that you fell for.

@@Foetoid2k6 I'm well aware most ps5 games are capped at 60 fps to display 4k still. That being said however, saying that there are no games able on PS5 to display 4k 120 fps is wrong. Albeit they aren't tripple A rated games like Call of Duty of Battlefield, certain indy games are able to do what is advertised (e.g. Quake and knockout city). If your argument against those will be 'but those aren't graphically heavy with lots of extra features like ray tracing' I understand. My point is, even though your assumption being that the advertising is somewhat misleading from sony, its still a feat nonetheless that we're able to expierence so much for relatively little. Maybe the PS5 pro in the future gets a little more fps on bigger games ;)

Hey John, my friend had bought a 144hz monitor (ASUS VG248QE) before getting a PS5, and his monitor was not running 120hz on PS5. Upon research I found that his monitor can only run 144hz on display port and not hdmi. What can he do to get 120hz instead of getting a new monitor? Help would be appreciated.

One very important thing to remember when buying a monitor that has support for 120hz or more is that the HDMI ports needs to be HDMI 2.1 in order for you to get 120hz on PS5

In the end, I went with 49" QLED HDR 4k 60Hz TV, after I made the purchase I have found out that these models come with 120Hz option from 55" and beyond, but after some research, I see that on 120hz in 4k you loose some of the details in your games etc., and I wouldn't really use 120hz feature TBH on PS5, apart from fast paced multiplayer games. 90% of my gaming on PS5 is singleplayer games. I saved quite a bit of cash, and I heard that most of the game releases on PS5 platform will be aimed for 4K60fps, but maybe I should future proof myself for PS5 Pro, will see
