Is the HDMI Cable Included with Sony PS5 Really HDMI 2.1? Tested!
Vložit
- čas přidán 19. 11. 2020
- We test whether the HDMI cable included with the Sony PS5 (Playstation 5) console is indeed HDMI 2.1, by using a Denon X2700H receiver which can run a cable test up to 40Gbps.
We also present two further evidence of the Sony PS5's HDMI 2.1 bandwidth being capped at 32Gbps, namely an LG C9 (with an HDMI 2.1 bandwidth of 48Gbps), and also the FRL information on the Denon receiver (added after a firmware update).
The Zeskit Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable (certified HDMI 2.1 48Gbps) can be purchased here*: geni.us/hdmi21cable

A little over a year since uploading this video, I want to tell you that your video was demonstrably helpful. I just got a PS5 and plugged it into my TV without using the bundled cable. My entertainment set up has cables everywhere so I didn't pay much attention to the spec limit in the cable I already had in my system. Then I came across information that 2.1 was a new spec. Did a little reading into it and realized that my PS5 needs it!
Several nights ago after I had set up my PS5 I stashed all excess cables in an unorganized drawer. So now I had to navigate through the AV Cable spaghetti of a mess I have in that drawer. Problem is that I did not remember what the PS5 HDMI cable looked like. Thanks to this video and the 4k resolution of the part number, I was able to identify the correct one. All the cables I have in my drawer look fancy, have gold plating and nice shielding. I was shocked to see that the PS5 HDMI cable looked so ordinary and plain. I couldn't believe this cheap looking thing was the most advanced cable I had in my drawer. So, yeah. Thanks a bunch for uploading this video.
I want to put out there that the cable that was previously in place before setting up my PS5 was an old Radio Shack HDMI cable that I used for my PS4. How embarrassing.
Not to suprised many claimed it wasn't the PS5 but the cable. I had a feeling it wasn't the cable as you went back and forth with an Xbox Series X, PS5, and 30 series GPU.
Great video thank you for this. I would have never thought you could loop a hdmi cable back to itself and run a test like that

Glad I found this video, I have a new X2700H and have been using Club3D HDMI2.1 cables since they came out first a year or two ago, they were the only cable I trusted that wouldnt give me black screen when using as a LG C9 monitor. Results are that they PASSED 40GBPS

Vincent just wrecked y’all fools.
Quantum TV in particular
Regarding the PS5 to C9 with the PS5 high speed HDMI cable, it's interesting to me to see that the FFE level is 3. This is the highest allowable value, so it's taking the maximum amount of TxFFE available to the Panasonic bridge chip transmitter to pass FRL Rate 4 (4x8Gbps) to the TV. Seems like the link signal integrity might be at its limit or marginal. This might warrant some eye diagram measurements.
Vincent I've been watching you for almost 2 years but today I finally subbed.Sorry it took so long. You deserved better.
I was so waiting for the "I am not Wong" comment. He dropped the bomb @9:37

So... I don’t *really* need a new cable then?
Your link just goes to a page listing search results and the cable isn’t listed.
This was extremely useful to me because I mixed up my PS5 HDMI and other HDMI cables I had and assumed that the "premium high speed" was the 2.1 and the "high speed" (not labelled ultra) must be the 2.0 which as you explained is NOT the case. I just bought a 120 Hz OLED so now I can switch the cables and get full performance. Thank you very much sir.

@@JuanDiaz-jo1rw cable doesn't have power... it's bandwidth is higher, but Sony says they are going to address it... it remains to be seen if the lower bandwidth is a hardware of software limitation.
Long time no talk Vincent, I hope you’re doing well! So I did this with the Marantz SR7015 and the PS5 cable failed 3 out of 10 times, so 30% of the time, it does not pass anything. I get a full cable fail. I released my video on this same topic Thursday. Also, I can confirm with the Marantz video info screen that the PS5 is capped at 32 Gbps when outputting 4K120Hz as it’s YUV422 from the console and not 4:4:4.
Is it possible this could be a software cap, and unlocked with a patch? Or is it likely that this is a fixed hardware limit?
@@2drealms196 the chip is supporting 40 gbits.

Vincent, thank you for all your efforts and professionalism. Could you just ask Sony directly if they have capped the bandwidth? and if they have why? If they have not, then on spec's alone it is inferior to the Xbox but in the real world could you actually see that difference?

Rumour squashed. Thank you Vincent!
Now then, what about the game options in the PS5 menu system for 'performance' versus 'resolution' ? As, the rumour for this is that: changing this from the 'default' to 'resolution' will mean the system changes the video output signal for games.

Thanks for clarifying that there is no HDMI 2.1 cable. Still people buying NEW cable because of the "need" of HDMI 2.1 . The cable must just pass the ULTRA HIGH Speed test. Even a 10 year old cable can pass this test if the quality from the cable is good enough.

There are optical HDMI 2.1 48gps cables these seem to muddy the waters even further with HDMI 2.1 as some people say they work and others say they don't.
I remember that LG HDMI 2.1 originally came out with 48gbps in the 2019 models, and stepped it down, to 40gbps in 2020. This took the capabilities of the 4K 120hz 12bit color, to 4K 120hz 8bit color
10 bit color. Not 8 bit. The ps5's 32gbps ports are stuck with 8 bit

@planet42 nah
It's more likely the PS5 is outputting on a per game basis, and certain things may be limited at the moment, like 8k and VRR so I take any tests taken currently with a grain of salt
@planet42 there is no any e-marker, it is not like with USB-C and Thunderbolt 3
@@Chr15Payne But Vincent showed that the notation about switching to 4:2:2 was right at the system options level, so it's not on a game by game basis - the one game was just confirmation that the system did what the system-level notation said it would do.
