      Observing the STYLE of this video, I asked myself, is Cody trying out to become the next Bill Nye the Science Guy? If yes -- AWESOME! :-) I'd love to see Cody replace that anti-science charlatan, who is now known as Bill Nye the PC-SJW there's more than two genders Guy. Worth noting, I was a huge fan of Bill Nye for years, up until he began endorsing "magic" as real (id est, promoting the Activeion scam product) and well, it quickly rolled down hill for him from there, as we are all now painfully aware. What a sad ending to such a brilliant career. I want Cody to replace him and teach a fresh crop of children, the beauty of SCIENCE. :-)

    • @stevejquest
      @stevejquest Před 4 lety +2

      @Takefive 123 [Bill Nye] "has dared to express facts" correction: Bill Nye claims gender is a spectrum, when it is not. Gender, noun, either the male or female division of a species. One of his "science guy" shows from the past clearly describes that (find it here on youtube). Gender is binary. I'm sorry if my facts aren't correlating well with your "facts". ;-) After all, we are living in a post-truth era and Bill Nye is on the cutting edge of that deception -- everything from gender fads to climate fads, Bill Nye is 100% politically (but not scientifically) correct. How sad. And it all began for him, when he found himself unemployed and broke, but then received massive funding to produce a fake-science advertainment program about "magic water", wherein he endorsed the power of "magic". Magical thinking is the undoing of science, thus I'm here to stop magical thinking. :-) Sorry if you disagree, or more accurately, dislike the truth I am propagating here. ;-)

    Just picture the "Uncertainty Principle" as taking a picture of a car on the highway: If you use a high shutter speed, the car will appear to be frozen. The higher the shutter speed, the more precisely you will know the car's location in the instant you take the picture. But if the car appears to be standing still, you have basically no chance of knowing how fast it's going. Likewise, if you take a picture of the car with a low shutter speed, the car will appear blurred because of how fast it's going. You can more precisely estimate it's speed, but now you know less about its location. This is what they mean by "uncertainty" in measuring something's location versus its velocity. It's just a mathematical trade-off, nothing fancy! :)

      The bit that confuses me is that people who seem to know what they're talking about treat the uncertainty principle as a fundamental law of reality, not just an observation on the limitation of current measurement techniques. As in, a particular hypothetical math equation is inherently a contradiction or otherwise impossible, because it would allow you to figure out both the electron's position and its velocity. Which is closer to the truth?

    Great work man, this is one of your more interesting videos, and explained in terms so morons like myself can understand exactly what you are trying to convey.

    Great demonstrations! and cool chain-mail! Also just have to say: Diffraction is not really related to Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle, but they do have the same mathematical description. It's all related to the Fourier transform, it preserves norm and inner-product, so it preserves a probability under transformation. Now you could derive diffraction from HUP, or more common you start with Huygens's principle to derive diffraction. But usually, in the context of HUP we are talking about Fourier-transformations from and to position and momentum. For light we would talk about a plane-wave that moves orthogonal to some plane. Taking the FT over the plane gives the spread of directions of the light-wave. Now in both descriptions, by having a definite position in one space, the FT- will spread it out in the other. This consequence of FT gives the diffraction, and HUP.
