In late spring and early summer, it's the ideal time to take cuttings. When plants are actively growing, you can use prunings to get free plants! I'm a fan of free and reusing, so in this video I'll show you how to get free plants, and also how to recycle a few everyday items at the same time. Who doesn't love freebies?!

Your garden is glorious! I tried this two months ago and all the plants are still alive, but I pulled one up and didn't see roots growing. Have you ever done this in a jar with water?

Awesome video thank you!! Quick question, I have some boxeood that a few are starting to brown on several stems... others are perfectly healthy looking. First question is: is there anything I can do to try and make my boxwood healthy, I would hate to see it die as it is two years old and is just now showing these unhealthy signs..Number two question: if I take clippings off of my healthy ones.. do they always grow in the original plants likeness?? I guess meaning that they would probably be healthy like the parent plant??? Not sure about anything with a root as I am starting to think maybe I Do not have such a green thumb or perhaps I don’t have the patience for ph, fertilizer , pruning and everything else that may be needed on a regular basis. .... and now for something completely off topic... can you recommend any plants that, or shrubbery that would do well in full shade. I have several very mature walnut trees that completely shad one half of my yard.. and I do mean complete shade.. but it looks so darn barren without anything!! I have ivy everywhere but I was hoping for something that is not a vine. Thanks so much, ohh and what kind of chicken is that? Very neat looking.. I know nothing about chickens but eventually would like one or two as a pet who lays eggs. Thanks for your time and I look toward to hearing your answers.

Hey, thanks for your comment. :)
First thing is, if those stems are turning brown AND the leaves are going brown too or falling off, then it's a sign of a disease. I would cut those stems out to try and reduce the risk of the disease spreading.
You're totally right about the cuttings - take them from the healthy stuff and they'll grow like the mother plant. They're basically just clones so they will be exactly the same. It's probably a good time to do them too if there's disease. Keep the baby cuttings away from the other plants and if the worst happens and the mother plant dies, you still have the cuttings.
Oh...and that's one of my Poland cockerels. :)

Euonymus Manhattan roots very well, I had 100% success rate from a neighbor’s shrub, and they are evergreen, grow fast, faster than Boxwood, and they handle a wider range of sunlight. They make a great hedge and can get at least 8’ tall if you want them to, or stay as low as you’d like. It’s all in the trimming. Pricey in my area to buy, they are well worth rooting from the cuttings, they’ll be a hedge around my entire sizeable backyard.
