LAPD Helps Clean Up Trash at Homeless Encampment in Venice

- Los Angeles, May 8, 2024: Los Angeles Police Officers assisted in a cleanup operation by picking up trash at a homeless encampment on Washington Boulevard in Venice. This initiative brought together a multi-agency task force, including the LAPD, the City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works, Clean Harbors Environmental Inc., the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), and Councilwoman Traci Park's Housing Coordinator.
The officers' presence ensured that the cleanup was conducted smoothly and safely. Working with Public Works and Clean Harbors, team members in protective gear carefully differentiated and disposed of hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
This initiative reflects the City of Los Angeles' ongoing strategy to manage homelessness and improve public health. LAHSA provided support services like food, water, and hygiene kits to those affected, highlighting a compassionate approach.
These coordinated efforts form part of the city's broader strategy to address cleanliness, safety, and the underlying causes of homelessness. Councilwoman Traci Park’s leadership has been crucial, emphasizing a balanced and humane approach to tackling these urban challenges.

Not so sure about that. It was way worse 3-5 years ago. There were not any cleanup efforts like this in those days. This has been a relentless effort every day.
The majority of the homeless population has absolutely no respect for the environment. It shouldn’t be the police’s responsibility to pick up trash.

What people don’t want to come to terms with is there is lots of help for the homeless. The majority of them are drug addicts who do not want to be monitored or cleaned up.

Just because they’re homeless doesn’t mean they can clean after themselves.. that should be mandatory… most of them are drug addicts.. give them choices, rehab, detox or jail! Hard working taxpayers would park their car for that long period of time, you know it would be ticketed or towed..

The police shouldnt be CLEANING. Thats not what we the taxpayers are supposed to be paying them for, to clean up after the destitute homeless. That should be done by someone else. They're not helping, they're just moving the homeless around.😢
We have businesses getting robbed right & left, people getting stabbed on the metro everyday, shoplifting out the wazoo and our cops are picking up trash.
