Source: The Green Room with Paul Provenza S02E03 Guests: Richard Belzer, Janeane Garofalo, Dave Attell, Doug Stanhope, Glenn Wool Original Air Date: July 28, 2011
I've heard so many comics say they've been called by Attell to make sure he's not copying anyone's bits. The man is truly terrified of stealing jokes or even vaguely emulating material. What a class act and a legend who's up there with Stanhope and Burr in the rankings.
Blossom Russo, Dave was screwing my friend's sister and as a result of their fucklationship, I met him a few times. He was a class act! Afterwords, I watched a few of his sets, because my buddy said he was amazing. I was blown away by how solid and unique his material was. Dave and Stanhope have been shit on by Hollywood. Dane Cook was filling arenas and those guys are still doing tiny gigs. It's a fucking travesty!
That's because he isn't fake. He doesn't dress up, he does his show about old 80's porn. He could have more success if he licked a few asses but he doesn't. He does his thing and that's it.
@@ass_69 Are you asking if he think attell is underrated? And before you ask - I don't know but there must be parity to some objective index or I'm stuck in a subjective mind trying to convince myself I'm not alone in feeling a bit lost here :) Who's - Dave Attel and why is he unrated in my list?
Man did Doug bust her or what? Her head was fucking spinning. She can't even remember all of the bullshit she throws out there. No way he could have made that up. He still laughs about it on his podcast. Classic.
That's hilarious you said that because when the clip first started I got excited and thought, "Steven Wright is on too?!" then realized it was Dave lolol.
that's why Doug is my favorite living comedian. his philosophizing like George Carlin and the other reason is his bohemian boozy mind altering substance lifestyle because i can relate to it.
look how hard she back pedaled on his statements I NEVER SAID I NEVER SAID omg my reputation as a "Progressive" is in danger. but they dont like in a self affirming echo chamber that criminalizes independent thought no not at all.
Garofolo is a good example of why you never go fully political as a comedian, no matter if you're left or right. Even Belzer managed to say a few funny things, and he peaked nearly half a century ago.
Everyone gives credit to Schultz for evolving the comedy scene by cutting out bookers and agents. Stanhope was not only saying it but living by it. As comedy was exploding in LA he flipped it the bird and moved to Bisbee, AZ. Legend
I remember watching Doug Stanhope and Paul Provenza on Comedy Central back when it was a fledgling channel. There was a show that Craig Kilborn hosted called ,"Short Attention Span Theater" and I watched it everyday as a young kid before school. When i would inevitably get bullied and picked on, I admit to having to use lines i heard these guys saying to get the crowd on my side when the bully would single me out in class, on the bus, etc... I love these guys.
wow! great episode of a show I would have never even knew existed had you not uploaded this.. wow.. REALLY great 20 minutes right there. Thank you. I'm glad I saw that.
Noam Chompsky had two mistakes in his Netflix Doc. 1) Madison was not intrisically favoring the rich but rather tyranny of the majority. Him writing that was a direct response to Shay's rebellion after land debts were not being paid back to creditors because the AOC had no enforcement mechanisms and it was completely taken out of context. 2) the Due Process clause of the 14th amendment does not imply businesses are people. That was the Lochner era of the early 1900's which was completely turned on its head during the Warren court of the 60's. Too this day, reading your own values into the Constitution is known as Lochnerizing because of the implied liberty of commerce.
He was stand up comedian back in the late 70s and early 80s saw him one night at catch a rising star he was the Master of Ceremonies who set up each comedian with a couple of one-liners always liked him but not so much on that detective show Jerry Lewis played his uncle on one episode SVU I didn't know Jerry Lewis was still alive at this time Jerry Lewis's character shut the man in front of us subway train it was a serious show but I laughed my balls off
First time I ever heard of Noam Chomsky I was recommended him by a friend, and the first thing I clicked on was him "explaining" why 2008 happened, and I can't remember how much I watched, but every minute of it was packed with multiple mistakes per minute, and he kept confusing capital and debt/leverage. Like there's a huge difference they're not the same, on top of that the housing bubble that happened happened to the everyman. The man on the street. I don't think he followed the news at all yet he was giving a lecture to a full audience and nothing he said was even applicable. So how anyone can have that man as their hero (beyond linguistics) amazes me
If she had just owned it and perhaps said " well, it was an emotional week for all of us, I misspoke in the heat of the moment, but I clearly don't believe that" she would have come out of that smelling like a rose.
I gotta say, Doug and Attell doing a shop talk rehash is like Tesla and Steinmetz going over equations. "Doug will play a bowling alley, and abortion clinic, he doesn't give a shit." I love it when the act CAN walk me, so rare.
I mean this in complete sincerity. Has anyone ever heard Richard Belzer utter one funny or original thing? He was dragging out that one word Reagan impersonation ("Well...") like 20 years after Reagan left office. What a hump.
Belser not knowing who Stanhope is and finding out he’s 10 times the comic Belser ever was.
He was playing into it... of course he knew Stanhope
"It took me 5-6 years to get over that." siiiick burn
I've heard so many comics say they've been called by Attell to make sure he's not copying anyone's bits. The man is truly terrified of stealing jokes or even vaguely emulating material. What a class act and a legend who's up there with Stanhope and Burr in the rankings.
And ironically, he is one of the most ripped-off comics thanks to hollywood. Attell deserved better in his career.
Meragun many of the greats do.
Blossom Russo And that hack, Amy Schumer ripped off Dave’s blacking out joke.
Blossom Russo, Dave was screwing my friend's sister and as a result of their fucklationship, I met him a few times. He was a class act! Dave Attell backing up Doug Stanhope, Dave Attell backing up Bill Burr. Underrated comedian. Love the dude.
You think attell is underrated?

Atell is batshit crazy, love him.
"Dave Attell is the funniest comedian of all time, which is why he's number 7 on my list"- Doug Stanhope
@@ass_69 yes
I like how Dave stood up for Doug.
Man did Doug bust her or what? Her head was fucking spinning. She can't even remember all of the bullshit she throws out there. No way he could have made that up. He still laughs about it on his podcast. Classic.
The last person you wanna justify worrying about politics to is Doug Stanhope. Love that guy.
Sonic im blue
When he skewers Belzer with his own book... priceless.
Stanhope is the Charles Bukowski of comics.
Nailed it
Doug is the Doug of comedy
@Anal Eyes Analyze Anal Lies Lmao that makes it work even better , Charle Bukowski was an unrepentant asshole
😂🍻
That reaction is a complete "holy fuck someone remembers that thing I almost blocked out of my memory"
fuck, 100% lol
Like a gentleman though, Dougie offers a sincere compliment after dishing on her. That guy....enjoy him while he's still here
Dave Attell is slowly turning into Steven Wright (visually).
That's hilarious you said that because when the clip first started I got excited and thought, "Steven Wright is on too?!" then realized it was Dave lolol.
I thought he was really looking like Tony Shaloub in Men in Black... Almost expected his head to get blown up and grow back.
MickyAvStickyHands lol. physically
that was dave atell and not tony shaloub?
Props to Attell, one of the best comedians of our age admitting, with authority, that Stanhope is his favorite comedian.
Ur favorite comedian's favorite comedian
@@131untouchable e my fav too

Stanhopes impression of Dave Attell is spot on
if she was grinding her teeth out in 2011, she is probably sawing her arm off in 2017
HAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHA now this is comedy mwhahahahahah
2018 is even worse 😂
one would hope
😂 Great comment RoadHead! 2019 = toothless with 1 arm and 1 leg. Lol!
She'll be commiting Sepoku in 2021 Lol.
Dave Attell like a little school girl at 7:25 cracks me every time
when stanhope calls our garofalo on being a hypocrite its great cuz you know hes not bullshitting
Also cuz Dave Attell already knows the story and he starts jumping up and down like a schoolgirl!
All those shills are the same. Inherently contradictory and couldn't write a high school essay on a single train of thought.
+Meragun lol what shills?
That being said I feel like Janine still has a pretty good point.... No that's not what I meant... Janine still is pretty.
@@p0llenp0ny four years for a reply and he couldn't think of one.
Stanhope is the only comedian still I'll travel across states in order to see him perform. A master, and consistent.
I saw him in Chicago...he's the best!
I love that he plays shity small towns like Fresno and Bakersfield so I don't have to go anywhere
5:20 Stanhope's impression of Attell was pretty spot on including what kind of joke Dave would tell.
😝 Fer sher
Belzer: "Who are you?" Then Doug kills him the rest of the show.
Stanhope and Attell are the only comics on this panel
7:23 Never in my life have a seen Attell so happy.
Doug Stanhope's jacket is so bad ass!
Sometimes I don't even laugh at Stanhope, I'm often just sitting there listening like he's an uncle that knows his shit.
HE HAS THAT GEORGE CARLIN QUALITY AS A COMEDIAN AND SORRY FOR THE ALL CAPS I REALIZED I WAS IN CAPS LOCK BUT WAS TOO LAZY TO GO BACK HEHE
that's why Doug is my favorite living comedian. his philosophizing like George Carlin and the other reason is his bohemian boozy mind altering substance lifestyle because i can relate to it.
Yeah...he's civilized...which is to say, he's _libertarian_
stanhopes attel impression always cracks me up
Stanhope is a truth teller, anyone offended by his work, is offended by truth..
You Stanhope fanboys are silly sometimes.
What do you think is a good example of Stanhope telling lies in his act?
Ole Okie Watson What do you think is a good example of Stanhope telling lies in his comedy acts????
Stanhope isn't famous enough to have fanboys, just fans.
cuttygrass the truth is offended by Doug Stanhope.
Glad Stanhope has friends, sometimes worry about the guy. It's all real from that guy, not an act. No.
+Michael Garfat His face looks the same, but I bet his liver looks like a roasted red pepper.
Hahaha ...yeh
Should listen to his podcast sometime. He's got friends, no worries there.
He currently does sold sold out tour around the world. Yheah he got some friends.
Michael Garfat comedy is rooted in exaggeration, not truth.
I miss Dave Attell. His late night show was the greatest. Wish he had a show again.
Insomniac was awesome
8:55
I 100% believe Stanhope's telling the truth.
+TheOriginalMaxGForce Of course he is. It's the SJWs who always lie.

Alright Joe Rogan.

You know he is telling the truth and so what its a hilarious story and they like each other. Its great.
Imagine a Stanhope and Attell tour. Fuck.💜
She is for real 100% killing the room.. comedy eyy?
This is precious and awesome. I am so glad we have it.
Stanhope is the GOAT!
Doug Stanhope is like a mature Bill Hicks.
God I want this show to come back!
Look at how Stanhope can tell a joke when the others are inhaling so that he gets heard.
EXCELLENT timing
thats one of the reasons he's the best, cuz he's got social awareness.
Anyone with a profile pick of Clay Davis is awesome in my book! Sheeeeeeeiiiit partner great channel!
+Fun Void crawl, walk then run...
Jesus, that's funny
c'mon now string. you know that monies tied up in bonds.
SHEEEEEEEEiiiiiiiiiittt
Stanhope & Attell were so out of place! This was like putting college professors in a room full of first graders.
Doug is the best living comic today. Truly one of a kind, so funny and so full of great stories.

I fucking love both Doug and Dave, they’re both sharp as fuck, hilarious, and totally unforgiving. Geniuses
Janeane Garofalo's stepdad really did some damage to her psyche.

Doug Stanhope was the only one that didn’t get a handshake at the end.
Dave and Doug, my two top comedians
Doug is fantastic, and Atell is so likeable
Stanhope's farts are funnier than Belzer
The Belz was great in the 80's. The stories around him are similar the Stanhope's.

doug stanhope is a comedy genius
grate guy too
Dave is such a fanboy. I love it.
This is like a time capsule. How they’re talking to each other is amazing
Stanhope is the MAN! Love Dave Atell too.
Stanhope is just landing vicious over hand right after over hand right.
Bring this show back every year 💛
How have I never heard of this show!? Thanks for uploading 😊
You can REALLY see Belzers ego shatter
Just the way he gets under Garofalo's skin is fuckin BEAUTIFUL 🤣🤣..
wow! great episode of a show I would have never even knew existed had you not uploaded this.. wow.. REALLY great 20 minutes right there. Thank you. I'm glad I saw that.
She's off her rocker.
Janeane generally looks terrified that somebody remembered.
I'm flabbergasted how someone could say so much, yet actually say nothing at all.
Just listen to any speech by Bill Clinton
"It took me five years to unlearn that shit" I lost it
Note how Provenza gives everyone but Stanhope a big hug.
Richard Belzer is a bel-end.
Stanhope should have showed up for this with Hulk Hogan....
ninjast4r Spider-Man reference?
Dude! Best show on the planet. Group of comedians with a bit of alcohol and all free chatter, funny as phuck
No handshake for Doug at the end, there. I guess Paul had his feathers ruffled.
